ReporterFrom the PresidentBy Rudy Paolucci | President RRHOA
Iwould like to welcome Julie Algrem and Valerie Wolfe‐Spiegel to the RRHOA Board of Directors. They wereunanimously appointed at the June 11, 2018 meeting. The
Board also appointed Dr. Jim Dorociak as Treasurer and I wasappointed as President. Thank you to Jim for leading the RRHOABoard for the last several years.
An ongoing theme of the last few newsletters is the berm. Here is a quick synopsis of ongoing discussions for thoseunfamiliar with this issue. River Run, as all other neighborhoodsaround us, are experiencing issues with Austrian Pines. OurAustrian Pines have been treated by professional arborists formany years. Last year the arborist informed the Board that mostof the Austrian Pines could not be saved and at best continuedtreatment may prolong the life of some trees.
The Board also consulted with our professional landscapersand decided to remove severely diseased and dead trees andshrubs from the berms along Book Road and 104th. The goal atthe time was to proceed with the removal of tagged plants in thefall and plant replacements in the spring. Due to the objection ofcertain River Run homeowners to the Board’s course of action, the removal of trees was postponed with the decision of theBoard to re‐assess trees and shrubs on the berms.
As mentioned in the last newsletter, the “Green Team” did re‐assess the trees and plants on the berms. It was decided that 86pines should be removed along with one River Birch and oneAlder. Those trees are tagged with a red paint for all homeownersto be able to identify the trees that will be removed. Thelandscape designer, CB Conlin informed the Board that the bestapproach to determine proper plant selection and placement is toevaluate aesthetics, amount of sunshine and plant population/density after the tree removal. Our intention is to produce anaesthetically pleasing landscape that will provide proper privacyfor homeowners.
Replacement trees will be in the 6’‐8’ range. Shrubs, if any, will be of appropriate size according to professional landscapers.Densely planted areas may receive a less than a 1:1 planting‐to‐removal ratio, whereas sparsely planted areas may receive ahigher than 1:1 planting‐to‐removal ratio. Large root systems ofremoved trees will prevent replacement in the exact location of atree removal. CB Conlin, along with our professional arborist, willdetermine the best placement and varieties for new trees and

shrubs. Once an acceptable plan is developed it will be madeavailable for all River Run homeowners to view before anywork is done.
The Board had hoped to vote on plant removal at the June11, 2018 meeting; and to approve removal of trees thissummer and proceed with new plantings in the fall.Unfortunately, due to certain homeowner objection and legalthreats, the Board’s actions were stalled. The Board believesthat all issues have been resolved and wants to be astransparent as possible with homeowners with regard to itsplans to remove trees and replant in the berm.
The dead and diseased trees are an eyesore and harmproperty values. We have already lost one growing season andplan not to lose a second. I hope this newsletter helps satisfyconcerns and stresses the fact that the agenda of the RRHOABoard is fiduciary in nature and for the betterment of theentire neighborhood.
On other notes, RRHOA has received numerouscomplaints about cars parked across sidewalks and on thestreet overnight. Naperville has an ordinance not allowingcars to park on the street overnight or to park acrosssidewalks at any time. Naperville Police have begun ticketingviolators and will continue to do so. If your car or a visitor’scar must be on the street overnight, please notify theNaperville Police Department by calling their non‐emergency
number. The RRHOA also received several complaints of tall grass,
unkempt yards, and mowing late in the evening. Tall grassand unkempt lawns are governed by the City of Naperville. All complaints if they cannot be resolved in a friendly mannershould be presented to Naperville. Neither Naperville nor theRRHOA have guidelines for acceptable hours that lawns canbe maintained. We suggest following the city guidelines forcommercial mowers, which limits mowing between the hoursof 8 am and 7 pm. Please use common sense and becourteous and respectful of your neighbors.
If you have a drone, please keep it restricted to the airspace above your property. Do not use the camera to spy onyour neighbors. Neither the RRHOA or the City of Napervillehave rules regarding drones, but please be respectful of yourneighbors.
Always remember to complete an ARC form and wait forapproval before beginning any outdoor projects. Fines arelevied for any work that begins before an ARC form isapproved. ARC forms can be found in the River Run Reporter,on the River Run homeowners website and through theRealManage portal.
The RRHOA Board will next meet at the River Run Clubon August 6, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

River Run Club... “A private, social, recreational and fitness club.”
Greetings members of the Club... Our second Dive‐In
Movie Nite will be on Thursday, July 12th. If any of
our younger members have a “special request” for
a movie selection, please feel free to give me a holler and let
me know your selection. The gates will open at 8 pm for
pizza, cheesy bread and refreshments with the movie starting
at 8:30 pm. Ice cream novelties will be available toward the
end of the movie presentation. So get your favorite floaty and
come join us for an evening of food, folks and fun as this event
is complimentary to all members. There will be a $5 fee for
non‐members. Be sure to call in for reservations as space is
limited and this event will sell out quickly.
Next on the agenda is the Wimbledon Whites Mixer event
which will be held on Saturday, July 14th from 5 to 7:30 pm on
our tennis patio. Hosted by our tennis pro, David Walker, we
will have an evening of competitive tennis matches along with
hords and beverages for everyone attending. Sounds like a
perfect way to spend an evening with friends to me! By the
way, don’t forget to wear your whites as the Queen will be
watching!
Moving on to the next club event, Caribbean Nite will be
taking place at our outdoor pool from 7 to 10 pm on Saturday,
July 21st. There will be plenty of beverages and food items
from ‘da islands mon’ as well as music for dancing. So be sure
to wear your floral shirt and Caribbean attire and “join the
party ‘mon”! Reservations are required, so be sure to contact
Chris or Mark at the Clubhouse. The outdoor pool will close at
6 pm for this event as this will be an adult only.
We are looking at offering an additional activity available
at River Run — Pickle Ball. We are currently looking at setting
up a temporary Pickle Ball Court #4. Pickle Ball is a
combination of ping pong and tennis and played on a smaller
version of a tennis court. Did you know that one of our
resident members advanced to the National Tournament held
in Florida? The play is quick and fast with plenty of
excitement. We have had a few members and guests already
interested in playing, so why not come out and give it a try. We
will be putting a schedule together very shortly, so please be
sure to contact the Clubhouse or check the website for court
times.
Speaking of tennis courts, if you and a guest are planning
to play a few sets of tennis, may I suggest calling the
clubhouse ahead of time to reserve a court on the date and
time you prefer. With our new tennis pro, David Walker
directing drills and matches, along with the many new club
members, the tennis courts are becoming a busy amenity at
the club. By calling ahead of time, you can reserve a court for
90 minutes for the time you prefer. Reservations can be made
for one court, up to five days in advance by any member. All
members and guests must sign in at the front desk, wear
proper attire and display a professional court etiquette as
well. Courts will be held for a 15 minute grace period of an
appointed time before being released. Once again, avoid
waiting for a tennis court to open, please call ahead to reserve
your court for your preferred day and time. We have replaced
over half of the windscreens and tighten down the nets as well
so be prepared to bring your “A” game.
On a side note, please be sure to check the River Run
website for the calendar event sheet as we have listed these
special events as well as the water polo, swim team meets,

aerobic classes and tennis drills and
events for the month of July.
Speaking of events, are you
planning a special event? A graduation
party, anniversary party or just a
gathering of family and friends. Why not
host the event at River Run. Whether an
outdoor kid’s pool party, indoor bridal
shower or family BBQ, we would be
happy to assist. There are only a couple
of prime dates left for July and August,
so be sure to contact Chris Burg or
myself to set up your special event. Why
not host your evening event at the new
poolside patio complete with comfy
furniture and fire pits for your
enjoyment? Please contact Mark or
Chris for more information.
Last but not least, River Run will
have the annual Vintage Car Show on
Sunday, July 29th in our front parking
lot. So if you have a favorite vintage
vehicle or that special toy that you
would like to show off to the
neighborhood, be sure to call and
reserve a space. Load in time will be
from 10 am to 12 noon. The vehicles
will be roped off and on display in our
front parking lot for all guests to view
from 12 noon to 5 pm. We will have
refreshments in the Lounge Room with
grilled items available on a cash basis
throughout the day on the grass area
outside the Clubhouse. There is no cost
to attend this event so why not come
out and enjoy the show. Who knows,
maybe we just lite ‘em up on Clearwater
to see who has bragging rights!
In closing, I would like to mention
that we are now able to accept credit
card payments at the Clubhouse.
Minimum charge is $25 and there will
be a 2% fee added to your account on
any charges over $100. This way you
can use your credit card and pick up
points, miles and extra amenities from
your carrier.
As always, I would like to thank my
co‐workers for the marvelous job in
getting and keeping the club operating
at such a high level of service. Without
these very special people performing
their job above and beyond every day,
we would be just another Naperville
clubhouse. At the Run, we fly with the
Eagles!
