Great Lakes, Small Streams Learn about and celebrate our northern waters, July 18 - 29
Ahoj!
I am Andreas, or Andrew, the Librarian! I am known in
Rock County as an endless bubbler of obscure sports
history and a preference for wide-brimmed hats
(including of the cheese variety). I also love discussing
science fiction literature, cats, software, and varieties of
beer. Want a recipe for Schnitzel? Got that covered, too!
Find all this, and more, coming to a library near you,
this July!
Introducing New Library Staff!!
A new water-themed travelling exhibit from the Wisconsin Historical Society, “Great Lakes Small Streams: How Water Shapes Wisconsin,” will be at the Three Lakes Historical Museum in July.
The exhibit teaches about our relationship with water as a state. The exhibit will place many of our current concerns in a historical context and show how the force of water has changed our state over time. See the consequences—good and bad—of past decisions and be challenged about how we can secure a more hopeful water future for all of us.
Programs to go with the Exhibit Tuesday, July 18: 10:30 AM Trees for Tomorrow program, “Water Science & Boat Building,” at Maple Lake, ages 3 – 15
Thursday, July 20:
- 3 PM - DNR Boat Check Demo – come see a live demonstration of how to check and clean your boat of invasive
species and help maintain healthy lakes. Co-sponsored by the Three Lakes Police Department. At the library
parking lot.
- 7 PM - Speaker: Dr. Norm Lasca, professor emeritus of geology at UW-Milwaukee, elaborates on the role of
water in Wisconsin's history and future in his talk, "How Water Shapes Wisconsin." At the TLCFA.
Tuesday, July 20: 2 PM Cooking with Invasive Species, Oneida County Land & Water Conservation. At the Demmer Library.

“What’s Happening with the Building?”
As people are coming back for the summer, we’re hearing this question often – and sometimes it feels like the answer changes daily, but also goes months without changing at all.
The winter 2016-2017 summary is that we had up to $900,000 of public funds approved during an advisory referendum in November, and in the town annual meeting in April to match the $1 million dollars raised by the Three Lakes Public Library Foundation. Together with $100,000 pledged by the Three Lakes Historical Society, that gives us a budget of up to $2 million.
The Town of Three Lakes is pursuing different options for their building – currently that includes looking at alternative locations for the Town offices portion of the building, possibly in more visible locations on the Superior Street and/or combining facilities with the Chamber.
That leaves us back at the design drawing board. One opportunity is if the Town offices move, we could still expand on one level to the north. But regardless, we are in need of a fresh design.
The newly-formed Demmer Design and Construction Committee (DCC) has interviewed architects and made a recommendation to the library board in June. The board accepted the recommendation and is pursuing a design contract. If all goes well, we hope to begin meeting with the architect and working on a new design in late summer. Slowly – but surely!!
The 501c(3) Three Lakes Public Library Foundation continues to accept donations including cash, appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and IRA distributions. These donations protect us against inflation and allow us to have the best project possible!
Pick up a brochure and donation card at the library, or use the form below. Please call Erica Brewster (715-546-3391) or Vicki Reuling (715-546-8032) for more information. Your contribution will help us open a new chapter for the Demmer Library! Thank you for your support!
