Along, with those I loved touring and seeing all the memorials, the capitol, the Senate, and much more! It was really cool to get to have debates in our color groups with our PA and our "Town Hall" conversaons. Town Hall was where they split us up and we were in random groups of like 15-20 and we spoke about major issues in our society today. I, also, loved geng to collaborate on our acon plan and I hope we sll carry it out. I think one of the biggest things I took from CWF was how much I learned and experienced through this trip!4-H Youth Development July Highlights

Cheatham County 4-H members have been on the go all summer long- learning, exploring, making friends and having fun! In addition to our Junior 4-H Camp, 4-H members traveled to Junior High Camp, Culinary Camp, 4-H Electric Camp, State 4-H Roundup, and Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington DC.

Junior High Camp was held at the 4-H Camp in Crossville and was for 6th-8th graders. During Junior High Camp, participants had the opportunity to go on a variety of adventures ranging from rock climbing to zip lining to kayaking.

The theme for Culinary Camp was the “Sweet Life.” During this camp on the campus of Tennessee Tech University, campers learned all about candy making from experts.

4-H Electric Camp is on the campus of the University of Tennessee Knoxville and focuses on all things science. 4-H members had the opportunity to drive electric vehicles, build a lamp, learn about wind and solar energy, watch an electric safety demonstration and spend an afternoon at Dollywood. CEMC sponsored the trip for all Cheatham County 4-H members.

State 4-H Roundup is for 4-H All Star members and is a week of learning and service. During State 4-H Roundup, Lilly Davis was honored as a Vol State member, the highest level of recognition for our 4-H members.

The biggest trip our 4-H members went on was Citizenship Washington Focus. Four 4-H members received a scholarship to attend this amazing trip. During the trip they toured all of the monuments and spent time learning all about our federal government. As Lilly Davis said “Citizenship Washington Focus was such an amazing trip! We got to see and experience things that I've never gotten to do! It was very eye-opening! Some of my favorite parts CWF were the making of bills and the congressional sessions about them and debating the chosen ones, making so many new friends, and seeing the Pentagon Memorial. Along, with those I loved touring and seeing all the memorials, the capitol, the Senate, and much more! It was really cool to get to have debates in our color groups with our PA and our "Town Hall" conversations. Town Hall was where they split us up and we were in random groups of like 15-20 and we spoke about major issues in our society today. I, also, loved getting to collaborate on our action plan and I hope we still carry it out. I think one of the biggest things I took from CWF was how much I learned and experienced through this trip!”

July was a very busy month for our Family and Consumer Sciences department. A few quick highlights included

wrapping up Tai Chi in Kingston Springs, conducting Navigating Life with Diabetes class, hosting a community needs

assessment, finalizing approval to be a Home Buyer Educator, and concluding our time with Connor Murphy, Career

Edge Intern.

We had a sweet time at Central Region Experience! Culinary camp at Tennessee Tech University. Aneta Eichler served

as Camp Director. A team of 10 agents planned three days of candy making bliss which culminated in a Candy Buffet

competition. Fifty-eight students participated from across the Central Region. Mr. Charles Denney, UTIA Marketing,

created a feature story on our camp that will air Sunday Morning, August 18 on Channel 5.

Aneta Eichler, agent, and Connor Murphy, Career Edge Intern, had the opportunity to attend the NARME (National

Association of Relationship and Marriage Enrichment) Conference held in Nashville, TN. Many exciting breakout

sessions were presented that will fuel new and innovative programming in Cheatham County. Aneta spent two days

attending classes presented by Dr. Van Epp to become a certified presenter of the PICKS (choosing appropriate date/

marriage partners) and LINKS (marriage enrichment) programs.

Family and Community Education Clubs celebrated their accomplishments with a Cultural Arts Breakfast. Amie Igou,

Decorating Den Interiors, presented information on what’s trending in home décor. Over fifty items were entered in

the Cultural Arts competition. We also had one Fashion Revue entry. Winning items will be representing Cheatham

County at the Central Region FCE Day in September.

Between numerous field visits and other activities, over 90 Hispanic H2A farm laborers received safety trainings, on 10 different Cheatham County farms. The annual training is part of the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) requirements for laborers working with tobacco and covers 8-10 safety topics. Also in July, one of our local 4-H beef cattle exhibitors, Staton Carr, competed in the Central Region and TN State Jr. Livestock shows, which were held in Murfreesboro. One of the highlights of the month for our staff was when UT President, Randy Boyd, stopped by for a visit. Cheatham County Mayor,

Kerry McCarver joined us as well.
