Greetings! It has been a while since our 2019 6K for water, but I wanted to write officially to thank you and the church for your generosity and support. I so appreciated your encouragement, prayers, and financial help. Our event this year was a great success! We had about 300 people involved on race day this year. It was almost 3X the size it was last year! People from all ages and walks of life gathered together in Bend on May 4th, 2019 and rallied,

providing clean water to 341 people in developing countries across the world.

Germany only recently finished their 6K, so international impact numbers are still coming in. But more than 52,000 people in 23 countries around the world walked or ran 6K on May 4th alone! These efforts are supporting World Vision’s goal of reaching 20 million people with clean water by 2020. Currently, they are reaching one person with clean water every 10 seconds – AND YOU ARE PART OF THAT!!!

Many children participated in this year’s 6K, some along with their schools, and some with their families. Regardless of their exposure, they were introduced to global issues and

empowered to make change in their world. Old and young alike experienced empathy as they championed for the voiceless. Thank you for donating to our local event and for helping us make change around the world. I am very grateful to you! Our event is May 16th next year. We will see you there!

With gratitude and hope, Gina Stout

A while back, the Local Missions Committee approved a large donation to The Shepherd’s House to help them get and install a large walk-in freezer. The project is finished. See thank you note below:Hey Foundry Missions Team,Here are some pictures of the freezer that finally was finished last week. The grand total for the project was just north of $20,000. Foundry’s contribution was instrumental in getting this critical project finished, and we are grateful for how deeply you have stepped in with us on so many levels. We are in the

process of ordering shelves for the freezer, which will allow us to start stocking frozen goods. On behalf of all of us here at Shepherd’s House Ministries and for the cause of helping the hurting folks who walk through our doors every day, THANK YOU Foundry Church! You guys are Rock Stars in our book.Sincerely,Dave & the Shepherd’s House Team

Take Time to Unplug This Summer

by Corey HighlandAh, Summer! Ah, Summer! It’s the season of BBQ’s, camping, vacations, long days, warm nights, shorts and flip flops! Today we are able to capture every moment of everything we do with the handy, dandy, device that holds the key to the modern world in our hands. Behold the Smartphone! While this technology is amazing and can be used for great things, is it really necessary or good for us all the time?

I just returned home from vacation with family and I am guilty of not being in the moment and present with my family. I was reading work emails, thinking about everything I needed to do when I got home. It was counter productive to being on vacation! I was supposed to

be leaving work and stress behind, but I wasn’t unplugged! I was still getting a “ping” every time I got an email or a text not only on my phone, but of course my watch had to let me know too! So, I had to respond that I was on vacation and I would be in touch when I returned. Then of course I had to post on social media all the great pictures of our trip! THEN I had to read all the comments that other people posted about our trip! Needless to say, God put this on the forefront of my heart.

Medical studies show that smartphones can be addictive, causing abnormal anxiety, depression and sleeping disturbances impacting our health and society. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4869088/

So, here are some tips to help unplug while on vacation:

1. Set up an automatic reply in your email account stating you are on vacation and will not be available during that time.2. Turn off your push notifications and alerts.3. Record a new voicemail stating you are on vacation and will return calls when you get back.4. Use the setting to only allow “urgent” texts or calls to come through.5. Wait to post all of those amazing pictures to social media until your back home.

This is only the tip of the iceberg to what you can do to unplug. But, by taking the time beforehand to do so, will have beneficial impact of your time spent away. It is great to get into the habit of unplugging on a weekly basis and not only when on vacation. Happy Summer!

by Annette VanDeZandeBecause of your generosity, many people are being blessed with food. In the first 6 months of 2019 we have given out 160 food bags compared with 113

in the same time frame last year. Each brown grocery bag contains at least 20 canned and packaged items. Your donations of things like canned meat, meat based soups, pudding cups, pasta and rice mixes (4-6 serving size) and popcorn allow us to give each family something besides the basic items we purchase. Many special thanks to the 16 people who pack bags on a rotating basis and keep our shelves stocked and organized.

HIGH SCHOOL [email protected] KIDZTOWN [email protected]

by Sara MillerMOVIN’ ON UP!Sunday, September 1st will be MOVE-UP SUNDAY. As we open our classrooms back up to include Nursery (birth-2), Tiny Tots (2-3 year olds), Imagineers (preschool/kindergarten) and Kidztown (1st grade-5th grade), we will adjust each child’s location to match either their age (younger) or school-level (older). Please help us out with this – for example, even though your child may have just turned 6, if they’re still in kindergarten, we’d like them to stay with their Imagineers buddies throughout the spring/summer until our MOVE-UP SUNDAY. This helps eliminate friendship stresses and makes sure we’re up to date with our class rosters and have enough teachers planned. NOW is the time to check your child’s info at a CHECK-IN station – please make sure their birthdate is entered correctly (with the YEAR) and their grade level is up-to-date. Thanks!
