President’s Message “And Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” —William Shakespeare  Let’s enjoy the fleeting days of summer to the fullest.  Let’s fill our days with activity and laughter.  Let’s join the  carpet bowlers at Sunrise every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 11:30.  According to Eric McMullen, an avid carpet bowler, all that’s required is a good sense of humour.  Skill level is of little importance and varies from day to day with frustrating regularity.  Beginners are most welcome and all of the regulars are pleased to give advice, often all at once.  Anyone put off by laughter should shun the group as fun and laughter is the name of the game!  Let’s also fill our days with song.  Why not join the 40+ Sunrise choir members who meet every Tuesday from 12:15 – 2:15 PM to sing sacred music, popular songs and old time  favourites.  Under the directorship of Maureen Edwards and with the support of pianist,  Alice McCauley, this group prepares and performs 12 sing‐outs a year.  Choir also provides an opportunity for socialization and companionship.  What a wonderful way to wile away a couple of hours each week!.    And, for the more creative among us, let’s learn to paint by joining the “Painting for  Pleasure” group which meets every Tuesday from 9:30 – 11:30 AM under the tutelage of artist Shirley Ross.  There is such joy in being able to give life, colour and form to one’s feelings and ideas!  And, it’s never too late to learn and to experience the joy of self‐expression.  And, don’t forget to relax, to sit back and to enjoy the warmth of the season.  And remember that:       "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,  listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time." ‐‐ John Lubbock  Keep smiling and take care, Gayle Ediger Sunrise Advisory Board President.

Writers’ Corner

Good memories, by Tiberia Pacheco

Innocence  I remember her In a yellow dress and lilac cape That I had knitted A long blonde braid fell to her waist  Black shiny shoes and Lacy socks covered her little feet She seemed to be happy, and At times full of beans  She sang, I listened attentively She danced, I watched with joy A shoe box full of pennies She brought to me  After she had picked them From our pockets or bare ground Bright and big brown eyes Illuminated her cute face  “What the pennies for?” I asked “Mommy all the pennies are for you To pay the mortgage So you can stay home with me”  How beautiful a child’s innocence is And how easily we forget the simplicity of life
