LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, I hope you had a good 4th of July. The Parish Finance Committee recently determined and approved the parish budget for the coming year, 2013-2014. I commend those of you who are prac-ticing Catholic stewardship for your outstanding generosity to parish ministry and life. Most every ministry and event that occurs on campus is funded through parish financial stewardship. For those who are not yet financially practicing stewardship, and are able too, I urge you to join us in doing so. Your financial contribution would help the parish be financially secure for ministry. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a Catholic invite them to the Open House held on campus Wednesday evening, July 17th, 7:00pm, hosted by the Rite of Christian Initiation team. It may be someone who has never been baptized; or someone baptized in another Christian faith; or someone baptized Catholic, but never raised Catho-lic, nor ever made First Communion. Your invitation could go a long way in helping the person make the first move. We live in interesting times with much occurring in the culture. Some would say many events disturb one’s sense of well being and peace. It could be easy to be overwhelmed keeping up with rapid change and events. We can overload on “watching the news” and conversations which go nowhere, except to gripe. It can help at times to take a day of “fasting” from the news on TV or radio or in the papers. Step away for awhile. It also helps to keep a perspective. God is faithful, and even in the midst of our some-times startling time in history God’s companionship is to be preferred to the anxieties of the moment. Have a good and hot July week! Love,

VOCATION It’s a simple concept. Love God with your whole being, and put that love into practice. How is God calling you to love? Have you considered the way of loving called “priesthood” or “religious life?” If God may be calling you for the life of priest of reli-gious, call or email Fr. Matt Dupre at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It’s high summer now, school is out, the pace of work slows, and some people drift away. There are visitors in the churches every summer, and familiar faces are “among the missing.” Some find the summer’s call more appealing than the summons of the church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a Sunday, and so they make their way to Mass in unfamiliar plac-es, watching the locals for clues as to when to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are. In answering the call, they keep the “sabbatical” rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Body of Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there was no obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a written law, but Christians have always yearned to be together on Sunday. In the city of Abitina, during a persecution by the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians were urged to stop worshiping together on Sundays. They responded, “Then take our lives, for without the Sunday we cannot live.” By a curious coincidence, the appointed readings today center us on thoughts of peace.

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.
