1. Light in the Darkness Part I The theme of faith in God is related to the knowledge of the person we believe in, knowing him in his "being" and in his "doing." Knowing his true face is the priority task of the believer. His Word is the instrument of the Spirit to keep us faith-ful and always renewed in his holy service. The Word is also his presence and the foundational cri-terion of all discernment in the life of the believer, in such a way that, being aware of the existence of God, we are also aware that He speaks his Word to each of us within the historical context in which we move and exist; challenging us to enter into com-munion with Him and his plan of salvation for hu-manity and instilling in us the commitment to trans-form world and society in more humane spaces according to the divine plan of life and love for all.

Presenter: Father Jaime Robledo is a

Sulpician priest of the US province . He com-pleted his Philosophy & Theology studies at the Seminary of Cali, Colombia where he was or-dained. He got his Bachelor in Dogmatic The-ology, with emphasis on Theological Anthro-pology at the Gregorian Pontifical University of Rome, Italy. He has been Liturgy Director, spir-itual director and faculty at the Mexican Ameri-can Catholic College and the Oblate School of Theology. He attended the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum of Rome and worked at St. Patrick’s Seminary & University at Menlo Park, CA as counselor, spiritual director, profes-sor and director of the Spiritual Theology De-partment. In 2018, he got his doctorate in Mor-al Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary and Universi-ty in Baltimore, MD. He was Rector of the As-sumption Seminary until 2019. As of July 2020 he has been assigned former and spiritual di-rector at the Washington Theological College.

2. Darkness in El Paso In our sessions we will explore how human suffer-ing is seen through the eyes of the Catholic Church. Our aim will be to make correlations be-tween human suffering and the redemptive suffer-ing of Christ as it relates to God’s plans of salvation. This will help us to reconcile with the suffering and pain we experienced during the Walmart shooting in our city.

Presenter: Father Fabian Marquez has

been a priest in the Diocese of El Paso for 11 years. Member of the Vocation Team, he is now the Administrator of El Buen Pastor Mis-sion, and has been appointed as the Bishop's Liaison to Youth Ministry for the Diocese of El Paso. He received his Theology Degree in Di-vinity from Mundelein Seminary/Our Lady of the Lake University with studies in the Pauline Letters. He has Philosophy studies from Oblate School of Theology, holds a Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communications with a Minor in Theater Arts and Spanish from Sul Ross State University, and a Masters in Secondary Educa-tion with Mid-management Certification from Stephen F. Austin State University.

3. Discerning the Will of God: Spiritual Exer-cises on life decisions

Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, experi-enced a profound conversion in the solitude he discovered while recovering from a wound at the battle of Pamplona. For those of us who have expe-rienced the COVID19 crisis over the past few months, the forced solitude has brought us more in touch with our interior lives as well, especially how God calls is in small and big ways to follow him more closely and love him more deeply. In this course, we will examine the Three Ways of Making a Decision from the Spiritual Exercises. It will com-plement the content of last year's course on the Discernment of Spirits, but last year's course is not a requirement. Like last year, we will be guided by Fr. Timothy Gallagher's wise commentary and exten-sive experience with these parts of the Spiritual Ex-ercises. This course will use Fr. Gallagher's book: Discerning the Will of Good, an Ignatian Guide to Christian Decision Making. Participants should pur-chase it before the first class.

Presenter: Father Stephen Pitts, SJ has

masters in divinity and in theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara Uni-versity. He worked with Montserrat Jesuit Re-treat House to launch the Ignatian Spirituality Institute, a formation program for lay people in the Ignatian tradition. He worked as an ad-junct faculty member in the St. Ignatius Insti-tute at the University of San Francisco. At pre-sent he is Associate Pastor and Director of Reli-gious Formation at Sacred Heart in the Segun-do Barrio.

During the hardest times of our lives, we either feel abandoned or punished by Our Creator, who is judging us for our shortfalls and weakness-es. In this course, we will go to the Sacred Scripture in order to understand how can we discover the Divine Presence of God at our side when we are struggling and feeling alone. We will immerse in some of the struggles of the modern world, called peripheries by Pope Francis. This course is also young people friendly.

Presenter: Deacon Jesus Cardenas is the Director of the Permanent Diaconate Of-fice, Director of the Tepeyac Institute, and re-searcher of the College of Business at UTEP. Ordained as Permanent Deacon on May 31st ‘08. 9. The Lack of Light in Our Darkness We will reflect on the “lack of light” that we en-counter in our life as individuals and as a society. We will reflect on God’s response to that darkness through presentations and biblical reflections. We will have 20 minute presentations followed by time for reflection on a specific biblical passage(s). There will then be time for response from those following this program. This cycle of presentation, reflection, and response will continue throughout the day. It will be necessary to have a bible and internet con-nection.

Presenter: Father Peter Precourt, AA is a member of the Augustinians of the As-sumption, commonly known as the Assump-tionists. He is currently in El Paso to help devel-op a mission for his congregation in this dio-cese. He has been a member of his Order since 1968 and a priest for 44 years. He has served as a campus minister, a dean of stu-dents at Assumption University, a Master of Novices, a Pastor, a Director of Formation, a Chaplain, and Regional Superior for his order.

10. Be Fearless for Me: Courage and the Gospel of the Marginalized

Pope Francis insists that the credibility of the Church rests in the Gospel to the Marginalized, the invitation from Jesus to be courageous in living the gospel at the margins. Drawing on thirty years of working with gang members, joy, hope and the courage of tenderness will be the focus of this talk. Father Greg is the author of the 2010 New York Times-bestseller Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. His 2017 book is the Los Angeles Times-bestseller Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship.

Catholic priest of the Jesuit order. He is the founder and Director of Home- boy Industries, the world's largest gang-intervention, rehabili-tation and re-entry program and former pas-tor of Dolores Mission Church in Los Angeles. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and English from Gonzaga University in Spo-kane, WA, a master's degree in English from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, a Master of Divinity degree from the Weston School of Theology, Cambridge, MA, and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, CA. In 2010, Boyle’s Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, a book recollecting his 20+ years in the barrio, was published. It received positive reviews from many. In 2017 he published a similar volume Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship (Simon and Schuster). .

11. Light in the Darkness Part II At the end of these two weeks of reflection and theological study, offered to men and women who accompany the daily walk of the Christian commu-nities in the Diocese of El Paso, Texas, participants will be able to: Understand the way for the better knowledge of the Good God and commit them-selves to being faithful to the Image of the true God, revealed in the person of Jesus the Lord, in such a way that in the midst of the indifference of the world, choose to commit their lives in imitating Jesus Christ, living like Him, loving like Him and serv-ing like Him.



12. Spirituality and Sacramental Life This course will present a brief and general over-view of the history and theology of the sacraments and their call to live a daily holy life. Optional and only recommended: in preparation for the course, read section two of the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the sacraments.

13. Come And You Will See (Jn 1:39): What Is There To See?

We who live under the sun, our lives are ruled by the daily sequence of light and darkness, day and night. This outward experience of all the living af-fects the way we humans speak about our inward, deeper sense of a spiritual life and encounter with God. The Christian Scriptures align God and Christ with the Light, and Satan and Evil with Darkness. John the Evangelist, in particular, presents Jesus of Nazareth as the Light of the World (Jn 8:12; 9:5; 12:46). The Fourth Gospel beckons us to come and see for ourselves... but what is there to see? This lecture series will explore the themes of Light and Sight according to John.

Presenter: Rodolfo Felices Luna, PhD is Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture at Ob-late School of Theology, San Antonio, Texas, where he now teaches New Testament cours-es. Peruvian born and Hispanic, he holds a B.A. degree in French Literature, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Theology - Biblical Studies from the Université de Montréal, Québec, Eastern Cana-da. He has authored two books on the Johan-nine Literature, in French, and currently serves as Associate Director of the M.A. in Pastoral Ministry, a new online bilingual program of Oblate School of Theology.

Presenter: Msgr. Arturo Bañuelas is Pastor of Saint Mark Parish.. He has a doctorate in Sacred Theology of the Gregorian Pontifical University of Rome. He is founder of the Tep-eyac Institute in 1988 and co-founder of ACH-TUS, the Academy of Catholic and Hispanic Theologians of the United States . In 2015 he founded the Hope Border Institute, an institute working on the social justice needs in collabora-tion with the Dioceses of El Paso, Las Cruces and Juarez, Mexico.

He is a former President of the North American Academy of Liturgy, mem-ber of Societas Liturgica and the Catholic Acad-emy of Liturgy. He is a reci- pient of the Jubilate Deo Award and the FrederickMcManus Award. 18. Ignatian Spirituality: 500 years meeting daily spiritual needs

Give yourself a peaceful Saturday in retreat and ex-perience getting to know Jesus through the eyes of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Oscuridad El tema se desarrollará en cuatro sesiones, toman-do en cuenta la realidad de los pueblos originarios de la diócesis de San Cristóbal en su relación con toda América Latina, como pueblos que han vivido injusticias, dando lugar a la reflexión que hombres y mujeres van tejiendo desde la vivencia de las se-millas del Evangelio sembradas a lo largo de la his-toria de la evangelización. En las sesiones se cen-trará la reflexión desde la Palabra de Dios con una aproximación de lectura existencial de algunos tex-tos bíblicos en particular el Libro de Job y el Cuarto Evangelio. I: “El atardecer” Empoderamiento de las culturas y decadencia de los valores II: “Inicia la noche” - Evangelio y espada, entre luces y sombras. III: “En plena noche” - Muerte, Silencio, Tinieblas. IV: “El amanecer”:- Cristo, el nuevo sol, Esperanza contra toda esperanza.

5. ¿Por qué le Pasan Cosas Malas a la Gente Buena?

En el caminar de nuestras vidas, de pronto nos en-contramos ante una enfermedad, problema o si-tuación complicada de algún ser querido o de no-sotros mismos, y entonces le preguntamos a Dios ¿por qué permite esto? Sobre todo para la gente que lleva una buena vida y se esmera en seguir sus mandamientos. Bajo la luz de la Sagrada Escritura vamos a estudiar algunos pasajes donde el Pueblo de Dios se sentía de esta manera y hacía esta pre-gunta. L:uego vamos a encontrar la Presencia de Dios, aun en la adversidad, que nos habla y dice que El siempre estará con nosotros hasta el final de los tiempos.

Presentador: Alfonso Bonilla, OP tiene

estudios terminados en teología dogmática y pastoral por la Universidad de Friburgo Suiza y maestría en filosofía por la UNAM en herme-néutica. Académicamente ha trabajado en diferentes instancias de investigación, profundi-zación y difusión de bioética; ha impartido cur-sos, conferencias y mesas de discusión sobre cultura, dialogo interdisciplinario y tanatología en humanos y en animales de compañía. Miembro de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencia, Arte, Tecnología y Humanidades de México. En la Arquidiócesis de México ha sido párroco en dos ocasiones, miembro del senado arqui-diocesano, miembro del consejo de gobierno y director de la planeación pastoral de la V Vi-caria. Ha sido presidente de la Comisión de Justicia y Paz de la Provincia de los Dominicos en México. Coordinador de intercambio aca-démico y difusión de la cultura en el Centro Universitario Cultural, AC. 6. Donde Abundó el Pecado, sobreabundó la Gracia

Curso de reflexión personal sobre la condición hu-mana pecadora para quien es posible el perdón humano y el divino. Curso donde los participantes podrán integrar a su espiritualidad cristiana elemen-tos sobre la misericordia de Dios como su verdade-ra justicia y la compasión humana como creadora de una justicia entre las personas. Los conceptos como perdón, justicia restaurativa, reconciliación, empatía, así como el perdón de Dios se profundiza-rán con claridad, atrevimiento y calidez.

Presentador: Miguel Angel Serrano Realizó estudios de filosofía y teología en el Seminario Mayor de Hermosillo, Sonora. Cursó la licenciatura en Psicología en el Centro de Estudios Universitarios, y el diplomado en Acompañamiento Psico-espiritual en el Instituto Centroamericano de Espiritualidad de la Uni-versidad Rafael Landivar en Guatemala, diplo-mado en Intervención en Duelo. Ha sido direc-tor de Ejercicios Espirituales a seminaristas, sa-cerdotes, religiosas y laicos.

Muchos de nosotros empezamos el confinamiento sin ver la luz al final del túnel, otros nos preguntá-bamos ¿donde está Dios?… sin darnos cuenta que siempre ha estado y nos acompaña en nuestra fra-gilidad. Este curso nos ayudara a darnos cuenta que los diferentes desafíos espirituales y del medio ambiente están interconectados y nos invita a crear una imagen de Dios que abrace, acoja y de sentido a nuestra vida y realidad. Revisaremos de que ma-nera esta experiencia ha impactado nuestra vida y que ética del cuidado y nuevos valores estoy invita-da a incorporar.

9. ¿Cómo tomar decisiones en la vida diaria?

El método de discernimiento de espíritus de San Ignacio de Loyola. Este taller ofrece herramientas para tomar decisiones desde el espíritu. El objetivo es sintonizar más nuestra vida con la voluntad de Dios.

Presentador: Mario Cisneros, SJ direc-

tor de Vocaciones y Juventud de los Jesuitas México. Estudio licenciatura en Ciencias de la Educación en la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila. En la Compañía de Jesús, estudio las licenciaturas en Filosofía en el ITESO de Gua-dalajara y Sagrada Teología en la Universidad Iberoamericana CDMX. Posteriormente estudio una maestría en Docencia en la Universidad Iberoamericana de Tijuana y una maestría en Administración de Instituciones de Educación Superior en Boston College. Ha trabajado co-mo capellán de prisioneros en el penal de las Islas Marías, vicario cooperador en Camagüey, en Cuba y en San José, CA. Durante 3 años participó como fundador y facilitador de ESPE-RE en Tampico, Tam. Es un apasionado de las excursiones y ha organizado peregrinaciones a diversos países como Brasil, Estados unidos, España, Francia, Cuba y dentro de México a Chiapas, Chihuahua, Baja California y Yucatán.

Los cristianos podemos ser consoladores por exce-lencia. Podemos ser acompañantes en el dolor y

pedagogos en la resurrección. Nuestra fuente es la cruz y la Resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo y nuestra fuerza es el Espíritu Santo. Este curso podrá ayudar a los ayudadores, fortalecer a los que dan

fuerzas y acompañan a otros en el dolor.

10. La Biblia y la Liturgia (8:15-10:15 am) Este curso proveerá a los participantes con un en-tendimiento mas profundo sobre el Leccionario para la Misa, como aplica a los tiempos del año, así como a ocasiones tales como bodas, funerales y celebraciones de la Santísima Virgen.

Fue presidente de la Academia Norteamericana de Liturgia, miem-bro de la Sociedad Litúrgica y de la Academia Católica de Liturgia. El recibió el Premio Jubila-te Deo y el Premio Frederick McManus . Traba-ja como facilitador para la Comisión Litúrgica Internacional en Ingles, en las oficinas de Litur-gia y como Oficial Ecuménico para la Diócesis de Kansas City-St. Joseph.

11. La Palabra Hecha Carne En este curso haremos un acercamiento a los tex-tos bíblicos que se ocupan de la encarnación del Hijo de Dios. También veremos algunos aspectos teológicos e inclusive buscaremos dar un repaso a las herejías que negaban el hecho de la encarna-ción.

Presentador: Padre Hector X. Villa tuvo la experiencia de formar sacerdotes du-rante 18 años que tuvo a su cargo la conduc-ción del Seminario Conciliar de Ciudad Juárez, donde ocho años fue vice-rector y 10 rector;, luego fue designado prefecto académico del Colegio Mexicano en Roma. Entre 1992 y 1995 fue a Roma a estudiar la especialidad en Teología Bíblica en la Universidad Gregoriana.

Presentador: Fray Mauro Muñoz OFM es religioso de la Orden de San Francisco. Doc-tor en Sagrada Escritura por la Universidad Santo Tomás de Roma. Especialista en Antiguo Testamento. Actualmente es profesor de Sagra-da Escritura en el Seminario de San Antonio en El Paso, TX


13. Espiritualidad y Vida Sacramental Este curso presentará una visión general y breve de la historia y teología de los sacramentos y su llama-do a vivir una vida de santidad. Opcional y solo re-comendado: en preparación para este curso, lea la sección dos del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica en cuanto a sacramentos.

14. La Palabra de Dios en el Pensar, Sentir y Actuar como Fuerza Transformadora y

Liberadora La temática del taller estará encaminada a ayudar a los participantes a descubrir, entender y ejercitar el poder liberador y sanador de la Palabra de Dios en sus vidas. Se trabajará en las cuatro más impor-tantes dimensiones del ser humano, lo biológico, lo psicológico, lo social y lo espiritual como oportuni-dades para relacionarnos con Dios, con nosotros mismos y con los demás y así construir relaciones sanas y sanadoras.

La Respuesta de Dios En la primer semana nos enfocaremos en las difi-cultades, retos y enfermedades a las que nos debe-mos enfrentar con valentía, siempre en la fe y espe-ranza de que Dios nos acompaña. En la segunda semana el enfoque se va a centrar en la respuesta que Dios nos da cuando nos sentimos abandona-dos, desolados y vencidos. Su Presencia es nuestra seguridad y nuestra paz. Tomando como base los Evangelios, descubriremos la respuesta de Dios, abriendo los oídos y el corazón.

Presentador Msgr. Arturo Bañuelas es Pastor de la Pa-

rroquia de San Marcos, tiene un doctorado en Sagrada Teología de la Universidad Pontifica Gregoriana de Roma. Es fundador del Instituto Tepeyac en 1988 y co-fundador de ACHTUS, la Academia de Teólogos Católicos e Hispanos de los Estados Unidos. En el 2015 fundo el Instituto Fronterizo Esperanza, un instituto que trata las necesidades de justicia social en colaboración con las diócesis de El Paso, Las Cruces, y Ciudad Juárez.

Presentador: Alfonso Bonilla, OP tiene

estudios terminados en teología dogmática y pastoral por la Universidad de Friburgo Suiza y maestría en filosofía por la UNAM en herme-néutica. Académicamente ha trabajado en diferentes instancias de investigación, profundi-zación y difusión de bioética; ha impartido cur-sos, conferencias y mesas de discusión sobre cultura, dialogo interdisciplinario y tanatología en humanos y en animales de compañía. Miembro de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencia, Arte, Tecnología y Humanidades de México. En la Arquidiócesis de México ha sido párroco en dos ocasiones, miembro del senado arqui-diocesano, miembro del consejo de gobierno y director de la planeación pastoral de la V Vi-caria. Ha sido presidente de la Comisión de Justicia y Paz de la Provincia de los Dominicos en México. Coordinador de intercambio aca-démico y difusión de la cultura en el Centro Universitario Cultural, AC. En México. Vicario en la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolo-res en la Diócesis de Brooklyn, NY y vicario de la parroquia de San Mateo en El Paso.

16. Descubriendo a Dios en L@s Herman@s Cuando buscamos a Dios, decepcionados vemos a los cielos y no lo encontramos. Pero en la suave brisa, lo cotidiano, somos capaces de encontrar a Dios a nuestro alrededor porque nos esta confor-tando, sanando, levantando y regresándonos nues-tra confianza de que somos sus hijos amados. Para encontrar a Dios, debemos abrir nuestros sentidos y ser guiados por Su Luz de fe, caminamos hacia nuestro destino de Esperanza, y dejamos detrás el dulce aroma de la caridad.

18. Encontrando Sosiego en La Palabra Cuando hemos vivido alguna situación traumática o que ha dejado huella en nuestras vidas, no sabe-mos a donde ir, a quien buscar, dónde esconder-nos. Pero la respuesta esta allí frente a nosotros, y nos llama para que vayamos a ese lugar de reman-so, a esas verdes praderas donde nos hace reposar, donde se encuentra Dios Nuestro Señor en Su Pa-labra.

17. Haciendo Presente el Reino Anunciado por Cristo Jesus

En la vida hay silencios y palabras; oración y acción; lagrimas y consuelos, alegría y cruz …. Esta es la vida de quien se hacia llamar maestro y amo hasta el extremo. En este curso revisaremos la vida concreta de Jesús que nos enseña a vivir con sencillez y dig-nidad, con sentido y esperanza, con la invitación a creer en Dios como él ha creído haciendo de su ministerio una presencia amistosa y cercana, fuente inagotable de vida y compasión por todos. Maria de la Defensa Michel es la mayor

en una familia de 12 hijos. Su formación reli-giosa y espiritual fue muy sólida. Las religiosas del colegio le transmitieron un gran amor a la Eucaristía. Después de casarse todo parecía ir muy bien, pero su relación con Dios era muy pobre. En 1985 le diagnosticaron cáncer en la matriz. Fue necesario extirparla, solucionando con ello, de raíz, el problema. Dios luego la llamo al Curso de Evangelización. Se sentía co-mo un volcán a punto de hacer erupción. Le dijo a Dios: “¡O hablo, o reviento! Tú decides”. Ese día descubrió que había nacido para predi-car a Cristo. De ahí en adelante, su vida quedó marcada: antes y después de Cristo.
