SERMON NOTES

“Pay Attention to the One behind the Curtain” Daniel 1

PRAY FOR OPC HOME MISSIONS John Shaw reports for “Home Missions Today”.

COEUR d’ALENE, IDAHO — David and Rebekah Graves

Attendance has dipped at Coeur d’Alene Reformed church as many go on summer vacations, but the congregation has also been blessed by vacationers who have attended worship.

Several families enjoyed a recent church-wide camp-

ing trip. Praise the Lord for growing fellowship among the saints.

The congregation is looking at a different facility for worship. Pray that details will soon be worked out.

The congregation will be present at a local fair this weekend. Pray that they will have good interactions with many in the community. Several families are considering membership at Coeur d’Alene. Pray that these families would become a vital part of the congregation. Praise the Lord for meeting the financial needs of the group.

SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI — Paul and Sarah Mourrealle

Gateway recently moved to Rockwood Summit High School in Fenton, Missouri. The school ap-pears to be the focal point for much activity in the

neighborhood. Pray that this location, along with a presence at the upcoming Fenton Days, will in-crease the congregation’s visibility in the area. The congregation has been asking the Lord to add three families to their number this year. To date, they have actually lost several fami-

lies to moves, but there have been several recent visitors to worship. Pray that these visitors will become regular attenders.

Pray for wisdom for the newly-formed outreach committee as they or-ganize the group’s participation in Fenton Days and seek other ways to reach out to their new community.

EMMANUEL NEWS

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

August 7 -11

9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

VBSN (VBS Network): News Flash!

Urgent Need for Nursery Workers We need a nursery leader(s) and nursery assistants. Nursery workers are needed 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Can you volunteer in

the nursery for some adorable little boys so that their mothers can

teach VBS and work in other departments? This is a vital ministry and we need your help. If you can work a day or two, even that will help. Teens are also welcome as an assistant. Please contact David Landow via email at [email protected] ASAP. Thank you!

VBS Meeting There will be a meeting Wednesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m., for all VBS Staff including helpers.

VBS Flyer Distribution Continues

Due to rain last Sunday afternoon, we were not able to complete our

VBS flyer distribution. Today, July 30, will be our last opportunity to take flyers door to door. Help us take these to nearby neighborhoods

to invite children to our VBS program. Anyone who would like to help please meet at the church at 4:45 p.m.

VBS Set Up

Saturday, August 5th, will be set up day for VBS. Chairs, tables, sofas, and more must be moved to get things ready. Men, we can really use

your help but anyone feeling strong is welcome to help. We’ll start at 9:00 a.m. We plan to put things back in place the following Saturday. We’d love to have your help then too. Come when you can and leave

when you must! Doug Swauger is our coordinator.

VBS Craft Needs ▪ Small, clean, glass jars (labels removed) ▪ Colored tissue paper ▪ Votives or tea lights ▪ Paper towel tubes (New to the list!)

Please drop these off in Fellowship Hall. Thank you for all the donations

already!

COMMUNITY GROUP There will be no Community Group meeting Wednesday, August 2.

Community Group will resume August 16. MIDDLETOWN OLD TYME PEACH FESTIVAL OUTREACH

The Annual Old Time Middletown Peach Festival is Saturday, August 19. Grace Church will be welcoming people through music, children's ministry, a misting station, and a comfort or

refreshment area. They could use your help to welcome visitors. They

especially need someone to run a sound system. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Rev. Bob Harting at (302) 545-5038. FLOWERS

If you would like to provide flowers for the sanctuary on a Sunday, stop by the flower calendar in Fellowship Hall.

We have quite a few openings in September and various times through the remainder of the year. To provide flowers, just pick a date and sign your name. Closer to that date, you’ll receive a call from our flower coordina-tor who will give you all the details.

COFFEE BREAK

A study to help young believers grow in the Lord and to introduce Christ to others is one of the aims of Coffee Break. As iron sharpens iron, the women of Coffee Break, share joys and sorrows together and encourage

one another with Scripture and in prayer. All women in the church are welcome to attend Coffee Break as are women in the community. Child care is provided so that mothers of young children may attend the study. We are looking for women and men who would like to serve once or

twice a month. Contact Sandy Stahl to help with child care. If you would like to help in other areas, contact Karen Grubbs. Coffee Break resumes September 20.

COMMUNICATION TASK FORCE In its work to help foster church health, our EOPC Fanning the Flame the Flame team identified communication as an aspect of our church’s

life and ministry in need of strengthening. To that end, Pastor Matossian

is assembling a task force to begin working on a strategic plan to im-prove our communication at EOPC. The task force will work in two ar-eas: how we communicate with those outside our church and how we communicate within our congregation. For example, we’ll give attention to our multimedia and advertising strategies like our website and our use of social media. We’ll also consider strategies to foster clear, open,

and consistent communication within the congregation and for all its

ministries. If you’d like to be part of this task force, please contact Pastor Matossian. Thank you.

FELLOWSHIP TIME

During the month of August as well as Labor Day weekend (when we have no Sunday School), our fellowship time setup and cleanup volun-

teers will take a break. Special thanks to both the regular and substitute volunteers who serve us behind the scenes. If you would like to help out, either once a month or as an occasional substitute, please contact Susan Palmer at (302)764-9000 or [email protected].

GREETERS Greeters are wanted for August and September. This is a fun ministry.

You can sign up in Fellowship Hall to get involved. AUGUST FELLOWSHIP MEAL Our Fellowship Meal in August has been changed to August 27.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL Our next Ice Cream Social is planned for August 13 after the evening service. It is always a good time of fellowship.

Toddler/Preschool Room Room #21 Room #22 Room #26 Junior High Room #9 Senior High Room #8

Today children may go directly to their classes for lessons. We will take a break from classes for the month of August and look forward to be-ginning up again on Rally Sunday, September 10, 2017.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

There will be one adult Sunday school class for the month of July. In 1517, Martin Luther tacked his 95 theses on the castle church door in the city of Wittenberg calling for a public debate on crucial issues of the

Christian faith. In honor of the 500th anniversary of this beginning point of the Reformation, our July class will focus on Martin Luther's role in

the Reformation with a video series by R. C. Sproul called Luther and the Reformation. Each session is about 25 - 30 minutes long so we'll have time for questions and discussion after each video presenta-tion. Join us as we learn more about God's work in the 16th century--a work that continues to impact us today. The class will meet in Fellow-

ship Hall. The adult Sunday school classes will also take a break for the month of August and resume on September 10.
