General Session Sponsored by IBM: Accelerating Business Value with Smarter Systems –Optimized Software, Hardware and ServicesGreg Lotko, IBM - Vice President of Warehouse Solutions

Our world is increasingly interconnected, intelligent and instrumented, with many things evolvingas a result: smarter transportation systems, financial systems, food supply chains - smarter solu-tions for all kinds of industry sectors. Each system is comprised of diverse workloads: transactionprocessing systems, databases, analytic systems, business process flows, collaboration, etc.

These different application workloads have different characteristics and requirements. For exam-ple, transaction processing systems supporting thousands of online users connect to large trans-actional databases with qualities of service requirements like high scalability and high availability.Analytic and Business Intelligence systems have different requirements - fast query performance, high I/O bandwidth and deep compression to deal with large warehouse databases efficiently. Asingle size solution does not fit every workload’s needs. Different hardware and software plat-forms are best suited to handle these requirements.

2 p.m. - 2:50 p.m.

Closing General Session: Highest Ranking Firefighter to Survive the World Trade Center CollapseRichard Picciotto, FDNY Chief

The highest-ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center collapse, and the last fireman toescape the devastation, Richard "Pitch" Picciotto was on a stairwell between the sixth and sev-enth floors of the North Tower when it collapsed on September 11, 2001. An FDNY battalioncommander, his is the harrowing true story of an American hero, a man who thought nothing ofhimself and gave nearly everything for others during one of our nation's darkest hours. Picciottotells an outspoken account of that indelible day, shaking and inspiring audiences to the core.

This session also features three giveaways, brought to you by Magic Software: one $200American Express gift card, one $400 American Express gift card, and one 32 GB Apple iPad.Piciotto will also have a limited number of books available after the session for purchase/signing.
