We will try to remember to set the gate to “Free Pass” for Diary Bar hours and for Wednesday nights. If it happens to be forgotten, kindly let your bartender know and if they have the time they can run out to flip the gate to “Free Pass.” Membership packets should be in the mail by the time you get this Cross Bearings . As I mentioned the last couple months while we waited for suppliers to open back up, if you need your membership card for a trip or are visiting another I-LYA club for dinner one evening, I can email you the membership letter and you can cut out the temporary card. Friday Feeds are in full swing and the turnout shows everyone is ready to get out of the house and down to the club. We will adhere to the regulations indicated by Gov. DeWine for Restaurant and Bar Establishments. We’ve had a couple of members pass on to calmer waters: Jim Winkel (June 11): Jim was an avid sailor. He and his wife, Dian, owned several boats thoughout the years and sailed on many more. Jim served SSC on several committees. However, he really loved serving on the Sadler Basin Board. Lynne Thomas (June 23): Lynne was huge supporter of the Junior Race Program - both physically and financially. We could always count on Lynne and Danny to put in the countless hours moving kids and boats from regatta to regatta. In fact, our 420, Danny T , is named for her late husband. Our condolences go out to both of their families. Man’s Best Friend is always welcome on the grounds at the Club, but I wanted to take a moment to remind members about the rules regarding Pets at the Club. Pets are not allowed in the Clubhouse, Pets may be relieved in the grass areas where there are poop bag dispensers, and that each member is responsible for their Pet. There is not a rule at the club that Pets have to be on leashes, but Pets are the responsibility of the Member and must be kept under control if you choose not to have them on a leash. Website upgrades are done and we are working through an issue that has email blasts going only to the primary email address. Aside from the email issue, you will also notice it has a mobile version of the website that is very user friendly on your phone. If you have website issues, send an email to [email protected] for assistance. You should also send announcements you want sent out to the membership to the same email address. Clubhouse Wi-Fi has been updated slightly and we are working on getting the access points to provide a little more coverage. If you want to use the Wi-Fi at the club, you will want to use ssc or ssc_5Ghz and the password is sscmember. The guest connection is ssc_guest and the password is sscguest when the user connects to the login site. All of this information is found above the light switch inside the Store Room next to the Dairy Bar and on the Member Center Page on the Website. COVID-19 concerns are making this year interesting. The moving target of requirements seems to have been leveling out and we know that members have different levels of concern. If you have concerns, please contact the Board at the email below or join the next SSC Board Meeting via Zoom, with the Zoom information on the Club Calendar when you are logged in as a member. Everyone is at the Club to enjoy some escape from all that has been going on the last couple months, so please respect that. It is not hard to reach the Board with a concern and most everyone has been on a Zoom meeting over the last four months. One good thing to come out of this is that Zoom is no longer unknown to most members. We have actually had Zoom at the club since 2018 for Board Meetings and now it has been used for all meetings over the last couple months. As I alluded to above, you need to log into the club website to see the SSC Zoom meetings to prevent security issues. If you have any concerns or there is anything you believe will make our club better, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or 419-202-0044. You may also contact any other member of the SSC Board at [email protected].

El Vicio Comodoro ..VC Blutarski (AKA Andy Davis) The Dairy Bar is open - That’s right folks, come and have a beverage. We have an updated assortment of craft beers, and a wider selection of spirits. Better wine by the glass also. Friday and Saturday hours like last year. Bloody Mary Bar has opened, and continues to be a success. First Bloody Mary Bar had pork sliders and a chicken wing, second week was the standard with shrimp and sausages, and last week while I was on vacation, DeAnna served up a scrumptious shrimp and beef stick concoction. Of course, all Bloodies have a host of veggies and pickles to satisfy your breakfast needs. Keep your red key cards - As you likely know by now, we’re utilizing the 2019 key cards, so please keep the ones you have. We did receive new key cards, so for those who have paid dues, you can get additional cards. As the gate has been repaired, please ensure you have your RED key card with you for access. Basin and Grounds Update:Have you noticed all the MULCH that has been put down?I want to thank all those who continue to help out around the club. It is obvious how much work has been done, and I simply want to thank everyone who is helping out.Stefanie Williams - For those of you who do not know Stefanie, she cleans the club and you will see her from time to time throughout the summer (and for the winter folks, she

is around in the winter also). Stefanie has been very flexible for us, trying to adjust her schedule to accommodate our social needs. Additionally, she has been concentrating on the bathrooms. I have been told many times over the past couple months how much better the bathrooms are......Hats off to Stefanie. That said, if you get a chance while at the club, and you see Stefanie, say hello, thank her for her impact on the club. She is a great lady who continues to modify her approach to support the club’s needs.Social Distancing and “Reopening of the club”Over the past several weeks, it’s clear that the club is a great place to be. We have seen a large number of folks and I am very grateful for that. Please continue to be mindful of those who are at a heightened risk. We’ve done a good job of embracing social distancing and for those who prefer to wear masks, by all means, wear a mask. I have asked Cinda to make me the mask I mentioned last month in the Cross Bearings, she has not completed it yet, but it’s coming. In times like these you have to be creative to ensure you can achieve all goals at once.Yearbook - Given the times we are in, and the financial impact to our local businesses (who typically purchase advertisements to fund the yearbook), I am evaluating another approach to supporting the cost of the yearbook. I find it difficult in these times to ask for financial support when many folks are either closed, have laid off staff, or have taken a serious financial hit. I will keep you all in the know as we navigate this next challenge.2020 has started off with many challenges: Water leak, forecasted highest water in decades, new docks, COVID-19, etc. I am happy to say that given all the change and challenge thus far this year, at the end of the day everyone who has been involved in driving progress has been wonderful. Thank you everyone, and I am sure I speak for Matt and Wes also, it does take a village, and I am glad my home address is SSC.I really look forward to seeing all of you soon. It is amazing how much I miss the club members and the fun we’ve had. It will resume at the appropriate time folks, and when that time comes, I’m confident we will pick up exactly where we left off. Please stay safe, and I look forward to seeing all of you in the near future. Contact me (Vice Commodore Blutarski Alias: Andy Davis) – Please feel free to email me with questions, comments, or suggestions at [email protected] or on my cell at 262-202-1372.

Sadler Basin Committee .....PC Steve JacksonMulching! Mulching! Mulching! Art Averell has been busy enhancing the landscape with mulch. He and Larry Knauer have also been spraying areas to keep the weeds at bay. PC Monty Kaufman and PC Jim Ziss have been working on all the little odds and ends projects. We are looking for volunteers to help with small maintenance projects, such as shoveling the residue from the high water that leaves algae on the asphalt. Just shovel into the wheel barrel or trash bag and put in the trash. Also looking for some carpenter volunteers to replace bad boards on the docks. If interested, please contact the Sadler Basin Committee.Dock Repairs - If you have any repairs that need to be made to your dock, etc., please contact the Sadler Basin Committee. Volunteers are welcome at any time. If you are interested, please contact Sadler Basin Committee. The Sadler Basin Committee can be contacted via email at [email protected]

Sandusky Junior Sailors, Inc .............. Mic Kaufman / Suzanne Hartley Hello Fellow Sailors! Summer is here and boats are in the water! We are all practicing safe distancing and the importance of masks. COVID-19 has not stopped us from moving forward with summer plans.Junior Learn to Sail - Learn to Sail finished two one-week sessions and three days of Community Sailing. In July we have several Learn To Sail classes, one of which will be held at the Sandusky Yacht Club..(July 13-17). See our flier for more information and registration information.SJRT - The race team is practicing Monday-Friday 1-4. On Fridays they have in-club regattas to prepare them for when racing resumes.Adult Learn to Sail - Mic Kaufman and Bob Durkin have teamed up to offer adults an opportunity to learn about sailing

on the water. Right now our “Drop in Sailing” is available with a Wednesday reservation.Adaptive Sailing - Adaptive Sailing held its first event June 22. We’re testing the water, so to say. We had four OVH residents reach out to let us know they wanted to go sailing. We worked out a plan to take them out on Kan Za and had a great sailing experience on Monday night. Kan Za has well over 400 square feet of surface area and giving everyone a 6 ft circle still left over 200 square feet of extra open space including the crew of two. We sailed for almost an hour and a half and went out to the Marblehead lighthouse. It was a great first sail for the season. Floyd (one of the veterans returning from last season) took us out of the marina and returned us to the marine 1.5 hours later. He had a huge smile the whole time he was on the helm and quickly recalled everything we taught him last season. The only negative thing I heard all night was, “man wish we did not have to wait a week to do this again.”So with that said, we are going to move toward adaptive sailing on a regular basis on Monday nights and for now will postpone the Wednesday open houses until the OVH team is able to schedule planned trips again. These four drove themselves to the sailing club and were not acing in connection with planned OVH activities. (There is still no firm schedule as to when OVH will have planned offsite trips and activities.) All the programing will be with walk on people and we’ll work to get reservations so we do not exceed capacity and our ability to practice COVID safe sailing.Anyone wishing to volunteer to help will need to have additional COVID awareness training this year. Let me know in advance if you wish to be put on the volunteer list and we will schedule times to align with the number of guests we can serve. Keeping staff, volunteers and guest COVID safe is a priority. Please monitor the SSC website for updates.

For the good of the orderWednesday night racing courses - The new Wednesday auxiliary courses/sailing instructions are printed and at the club. Don’t forget to get your copy so you know the courses. They are new (actually old) courses using the fixed marks in the bay. Sailing hacks of Sandusky Bay - Since we have a number of new members, I thought I would share some info on hazards in and around the Bay. 1) Inside our basin, stay north of the white buoys - very shallow on the south side of them. 2) Keep to the south side of the buoy just outside of the basin. 3) We race near the Coal Docks, and Buoy G7 is a

mark on the course. Just to the south of G7 there is a stone breakwall - it gets to within 50 feet of the buoy. Due to high water it is now barely submerged and not visible. Stay on the north side of G7. 4) The Bay Point Sand Bar is on the move to the southeast. Avoid it. Stay to the southeast of the red buoys marking the channel 5) When exiting or entering the Bay, stay east of Neuman’s Buoy, R2; as well as the two range markers near Mosley Channel. Anyone have more knowledge to share? — PC Skip OliverResultsMosely Channel Challenge - So far only two times have been turned in. I’m showing elasped time at this point.DOUBLE HANDED PHRF: Cracker Jack - Dave Caracci (01:59:14) Bad B’Havior - Gary and Eric Melssen (02:12:45)
