VBS Recap! Wow, God is GOOD! Every year we have seen God’s hand in our VBS program and the growth He has bless us with. St. Luke served 172 kids during our 4-day Vacation Bible School! Our hallways were noisy, our floors were covered with feet, and our hearts were full! Our rooms were filled to the max and we truly could not have done Vacation Bible School without each of our 65 volunteers! We again, had many teen & adult volunteers coming from outside of our congregation & it was so neat to see new friendships & relationships forming within our walls & joining together to serve our Spokane community.
Our theme this year was Life is Wild. GOD IS GOOD! Every day, kids heard a new message; When life is unfair…. When life changes… When life is scary… When life is good… GOD IS GOOD!
Each day the crews of kids took turns rotating between 6 different sta-tions. In Bible Discovery, Pam Ames led an interactive bible story lesson complete with props, sound effects & actors to really make the bible lesson come alive! In Imagination Station, the kids were led by Mike Apele as they reflected on all the wonderful ways God is always good, tying in hands-on science creations! Julie Terry came in each day and led Kid Vid Cinema, a time for kids to watch a short video about inspiring ways real kids in Africa go about their days and how God works in their lives. The Game Station, led by Cassey Buchmann & Kendra Juarez, was the big exciting station every day as kids played a new game & enjoyed a different Jumpy Castle, Water Slide & giant blow-up obstacle course. Before heading home, kids made African artwork with Rachel Scott and enjoyed some hands-on crafting time. Karen Stall served kids a big smile & a tasty snack as they were quickly on their way to their next lesson. To end the week on a high note, Debi Kaufman & Nikki Cerenzia served up an ice cream buffet letting kids & volunteers serve up their own creation of toppings. Such a great treat to end our week of fun!
Vacation Bible School is an important opportunity to reach many kids and families with the ministries of St. Luke. More than half the kids attending VBS are not members of St. Luke & many of those kids don’t have a “home” church they attend. VBS is another great way to continue to grow St. Luke’s presence in our area schools and neighborhoods and attracting more young families to worship at St. Luke. VBS is a week for kids to make friends, find a safe place to explore & create, ask questions about God without feeling judged, build a relationship with God & each other, and also learn that being at church can be FUN! It really takes a small army to pull off a successful VBS, so a giant THANK YOU to our volun-teers & our congregation for your support in creating this ability for our program to grow and reach so many children this summer. What a bless-ing to be a part of!
I’m always humbled by the amazing people St. Luke attracts to help serve in our Kids’ Ministry events.

St. Luke Youth Ministries
Sunday, July 7th – 7:00 pm – It’s our final DR Mission Trip meet-ing! Parents and youth are invited to this meeting. Youth will need to pack into a carry-on suitcase for the trip! I will unpack and pack my suit-case in front of you, to help make sure we don’t forget anything. We will be checking a couple suitcases (one or two – depending on weight) with your large liquid toiletries (Sun Screen, Bug Repellent, Soap/Shampoo, etc.). If you are able to bring these large toiletries to the meeting in a large gallon zip lock (labeled with your first and last name) – that would be very helpful! We will need another large suitcase that will either be left in the DR or if you want it back, you’re ok if it comes back to you very dusty. Send me an email if you are able to donate a large piece of luggage.
SILVERWOOD!!! Our annual summer trip to Silverwood will be July 27th. We will leave from the church parking lot at 10:00 am and carpool over to the park, meaning we will need parent drivers. Parent drivers get into the park for free and this is first come first gets to come along. Our group will spend the day at the park and return to the church at ~8:30pm. Please RSVP for this event by July 21st so that we can coordinate drivers. The cost for this trip is $20 and please bring money for your meals at the park. Also, our admission will get us access to both the theme park and water park sides of Silverwood. So if you would like to swim/waterslide please add a swimsuit and towel to your sunscreen, water bottle and food money. Thank you and see you then! If your youth would benefit from a scholarship! Don’t hesitate to ask!

Our Crosswalk Mission….
Crosswalk is a shelter for homeless teens located in downtown Spokane. The congregation of St. Luke faithfully and generously
supplies and delivers the ingredients for a complete meal for these kids on the fourth Sunday of every month.
The Crosswalk menu for July 28 will be Cheeseburgers! We will include a variety of toppings plus chips, watermelon, fudgesicles, and lemonade. The sign up sheet is located on the bulletin board on the west wall in the Fellowship hall and includes a complete list of items needed for the July dinner, plus a space to sign up to de-liver the food to Crosswalk.
The requested items for the month of July are hair care products: shampoo, conditioner, combs & hair brushes.
Food and other items for Crosswalk are taken to the kitchen in the Multi-Purpose Room, where perishable items need to be placed in the refrigerator or freezer labeled “Crosswalk”. Nonperishable food items are put on the shelving unit just inside the pantry, labeled “Crosswalk”.
Share Sunday—Breakfast items! Bags for the donations of food for the Mead Food Bank will be handed out on Sunday, July 7th. The Social Ministry Committee is collecting breakfast items for the Mead Food Bank during the summer months. Please place items in the red Mead Food Bank barrel, located at the back entrance. Thank you!
Meal Ministry at All Saints Pastor Alan Eschenbacher and members of All Saints Lutheran Church (314 S. Spruce Street, 838-4409) have embraced the opportunity to provide ministry and meals to the homeless people in need in the Browne’s Addition area of southwest Spokane. Hot meals are provided throughout the month. St. Luke sends volun-teers on the second, third and fifth Tuesdays of the month. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm, two people are needed to cut up ingredients for the coming dinner. Then, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, about ten St. Luke people are needed to help serve dinner. Clean-up happens toward the end of this time period. The dates for this month: Tuesdays, July 9, 16 & 30; but you are welcome to help any Tuesday.
Pr. Alan has given us a large amount of yarn that can be used to make scarves for folks next winter. If you would like to make a scarf or two this summer, give me a call. Thanks! Judy Senf 315-8755
Help Keep St. Luke Looking it’s Best this summer!
We need help with keeping our flowerbeds beautiful and weed-free and our lawns mowed for the summer. Please consider a week or two during the summer when you can help with the flowerbeds and/or our lawns. The sign-up is on the wall in the Fellowship Hall or you can call the church office to see what is still needed. We have a speedy riding mower. Thank you!

Thank you for Answering the Call Spokane! In February we reached out to our supporters and the community at large with a big problem- our shelves were empty. We needed help gathering new items from our wish list to bring to victims leaving the hospital after a forensic medical exam (victims are asked to turn over their clothes and undergar-ments for evidence). Thanks to our amazing supporters and advocates for victims everywhere, we collected approximately $1500 dollars worth of clothing, undergarments, hygiene supplies, and Amazon gift cards to care for victims during this most traumatic and vulnerable moment!
A special note of thanks to St. Luke Lutheran Church who contributed around $600 from their community alone!
With Gratitude, Erin, LCSNW

Church Librarian Needed!
St. Luke is in desperate need of a librarian! Patty Harrison will need to step down, but she is willing to train someone new. She has worked hard to get a system in place for shelving books efficiently. We thank you Patty for your years of organiza-tion! If you are interested in this volunteer position, please contact the church office.
