New Horizons - Orford Park

Summer Term

This term some of

our students have

enjoyed music and

singing lessons.

Some are learning

to play the keyboard

and Guitar

Pupils and Staff enjoyed a day trip to Crosby Beach, where they made friends with an “Iron Man”. They shared a picnic on the beach and thoroughly enjoyed their day out tremendously

And Now the End is Near !

Well done to the pupils at Orford Park for their commitment and

endeavour to attend school. Our school attendance has reached

it’s best performance yet. So well done - we hope you will keep

the commitment going for when you return in September.

Attendance vouchers will be sent out

shortly to the best and most improved

pupils.

Calm & Tranquil

Our students have a

weekly session with a

wellbeing practitioner

The students can

practice relaxation

techniques that fills

them with a feeling of

calm and pure posi-

tive energy.

September will see pupils attending our Orford Park provision move to a new location at Woolston Learning Village, Holes Lane, Wool-ston. We are all very excited and are looking forward to our own ded-icated space and purposely developed site that will offer more class-room space, a reception area, additional offices, common room, mul-ti-purpose classrooms, a sensory room, and a private pastoral /counsellor/agency space.

Further details will be sent out to parents and carers over the summer

Our Year 11

STARS!!

Our Year 11 students have

now left us. The staff had

mixed emotions when we had

to say good-bye. From sad-

ness in watching them go,

to immense pride in ob-

serving the commitment

and maturity demonstrated in

If you're moving on...

Here we are now

Everything is about to change

We face tomorrow as we say

goodbye to yesterday

A chapter ending but the stories

only just begun

In the last term, students from Key Stage 3 have been on many school trips in order to develop their social skills and widen their ex-perience as good citizens. Students agreed that by far the best of these was the residen-tial trip to Pettypool.

In May all KS3 students managed to attend the residential trip to Pettypool, which was due to their positive behaviour in the class-room. During this two day trip, the students took part in many activities including high ropes, “Jacobs Ladder” and the leap of faith. Students overcame their fears and showed real resilience and teamwork in conquering the challenges that the Pettypool staff put be-fore them.

In addition, as part of their Spiritual, Social, Cultural and Moral learning, students took part in a visit to Taybarns, Laser Quest and the Catalyst Museum for a Science Day to see how particle science works.

In addition to these one off visits, students regularly access Walton Gardens for their action for learning sessions.

On a weekly basis we also arrange for coaches from LiveWire to come into school and undertake sports coaching with the stu-dents.

Finally, PC Geoff visits the school once a week to talk to the students and build positive relationships. He has covered many issues including knife crime.

“To catch the reader's attention, place an interesting sentence or quote from the story here.” “I mostly enjoyed driving the boat and learning how all of the sails go up” LB July 2015

In order to develop their physical fitness

and find out ways for engaging in lifetime

physical activity the pupils have participat-

ed in gymnastics, trampolining, climbing

and Golf. Some year 11 students were

able to use their new found skills as part

of their GCSE PE course.

A group of year 11 students have worked

with our primary department to deliver

sporting activities and earn the

Junior Sports Leader Award.

July 2015.

On the 2nd July six intrepid year 10 pupils

and accompanying staff set off for the

Lake District. Once the pupils had erected

the camp they set off to the lake for sail-

ing. Later on, after a delicious barbeque,

the group walked into Coniston before re-

turning to toast marshmallows before bed.

After a good night’s sleep the group en-

joyed sailing during the morning before

returning to Warrington later in the day.

The weather was mixed on the first day

but beautiful on the second day and pupils

thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We have been very pleased by the way the Primary Nurture group has been

established this year. In response to the needs of the primary sector, New Horizons

has developed a provision that has garnered much praise and is well set to develop

further. Situated currently at Beamont Primary School, but under the remit of New

Horizons, the nurture group has catered for up to 12 primary pupils, Infants in the

morning and Juniors in the afternoon. Run by highly experienced primary

practitioners, the school has recorded excellent rates of emotional, behavioural and

social progress . New Horizons will look to develop the service over the next few

years across Warrington to meet the needs of the Primary Sector further.

Activities the Primary Nurture Group are particularly proud of:-

* Music with Pete. The children have learned guitar and have had a brilliant time

learning music through ICT.

* We have enjoyed baking (chocolate Easter baskets) and growing sunflowers and

Grass Heads.

* The children have really enjoyed taking part in PE lessons run by the KS4 pupils.

* We have enjoyed social stories to help us with our social skills and behaviours.

* The children have taken part in lots of art therapy work emulating the artists Andy

Warhol, Matisse, Magritte, LS Lowry, Mondrian, Hunderwasser, African art and

Australian art to name a few.

KS4 Art exhibition

At the Community Day

on 10th July visitors were

able to view the Art work

of the GCSE students

from Orford Park, Long-

barn and Halliwell Jones

students. The standard

this year has been very

high and the students

should be rightfully proud

of their achievements.
