Here we are at the end of June and moving into July, and I am beginning my second year at Colby. This past year has been challenging and wonderful. The life and love that is the Colby community is amazing and so vital. I am truly blessed to be here,
particularly as I watch many of my Local Pastor colleagues shepherd declining congregations and sometimes having the painful job of closing them. Thank you for support, guidance, and patience as I continue to learn and grow into my role as your Pastor.
I am beginning my second year, much as I started the first, by leaving you for education. I will be departing June 24
th for Annual
Conference in Pasco, WA, together with your lay delegate Connie Johansen. I will be leaving directly from Pasco for Claremont, California on Saturday morning, driving together with another Local Pastor from Idaho to attend the Western Jurisdiction Course of Study (COS).
COS is an educational program supervised by the General Board of Higher Education & Ministry of the United Methodist Church and offered through Claremont School of Theology in the Western Jurisdiction. Attending COS is a requirement of the Local Pastor program. There are 20 different seminary level courses that must be completed in 5-8 years of continuous progress. At the completion of the 20 courses a Local Pastor may be considered for Associate Membership in the Annual Conference. With completion of an additional 32 hours of advanced level courses a Local Pastor may be considered for ordination as a full Elder in the Annual Conference.
I will be studying for three weeks to

July Worship Plans
~Message from the Colby UMC Council~ The Church Council has asked the Trustees to proceed with insulation installation, roof removal and roof replacement for the church building. The work is estimated to cost no more than $40,000 and will be funded from portions of the Memorial and Capital Funds currently available in church accounts. These anticipated expenses will significantly reduce available Capital Fund reserves and your continued generosity to replenish the Capital Fund is greatly appreciated. Your earlier gifts to the Memorial and Capital Funds make this urgently needed work possible.
Thank you and God bless our Church,
The Colby United Methodist Church Council
Bible Study “Adult Crossings”
During this 11 session study group we will be exploring the 8 core questions of the Bible.
The study sessions will be held on Wednesdays, at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. A
simple supper will be provided. Hope to see you there!
~Pastor Brian
Internal Evaluation - On Sunday, June 14th, I offered some question to help you evaluate and consider your personal faith and beliefs at a given point in time. Here are those questions in case you missed them:
Who or what is God? What is sin? What is salvation? Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? What is important to me? Does my life reflect my purpose and what is important to me? What comes next?
There are no “right answers” and this is strictly a personal and internal evaluation. These questions can be a tool, if used honestly, as to how your faith, as you understand it, is truly lived out in your life.
Faith is one of the most difficult concepts we humans must wrestle with. I hope these questions help.

No UMW Meeting for July or August
The UMW will be taking a break for the months of July and August. Meetings will
resume in September.
The UMW meetings are an opportunity for women at Colby United Methodist to
strengthen our community of women and support each other in fellowship.
The purpose of UMW “is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons
through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand
concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

Bazaar Buddies
What is Bazaar Buddies? A group of women who get together to make things (and have a lot of fun and laughs while working) to sell at our annual November Bazaar.
When & Where do they meet? At church in the upstairs front classroom (unofficial ‘Buddy Room’) on Mondays from 10am-2pm. (Don’t forget to bring your lunch.)
What kind of things do they work on? Aprons, potholders, embroidered dish cloths and pillow cases, baby blankets & sweaters, hats, ornaments, and assorted decorative and kitchen items.
What do they do with the money made at the Bazaar? The money raised in the Bazaar is used to support local, national, and international organizations that help those in need. Some of the organizations we support are South Kitsap Helpline, Kitsap Community Resources, Stand-up for Kids, Etta Project, Coffee Oasis-Port Orchard, Discovery Alternative High School, UMCOR, Tacoma Community House, and Red Bird Mission.
If you have an idea or have seen something in a magazine or on Pinterest, that you think would be a good item, bring it with you and give the group a try.
