She has a well recognisable burn mark on her nose which is administered to puppies in Romania to ‘ward off’ diseases. July’s special dog is Amber, our lovely 9 year old girl. She came to the UK from Romania in April this year.

She has a well recognisable burn mark on her nose which is administered to puppies in Romania to ‘ward off’ diseases. It is an older tradition that is mainly found amongst shepherds and country folks based on a misplaced belief that placing a hot iron rod on a puppy’s nose will somehow protect the dog from falling ill. She is a sweet girl, looking for a quiet retirement home. She is really shy and timid around people, and will require time and patience to come out of her shell. She is really good on the lead. She has no interest in toys at all, and much prefers to potter around at her own quiet leisure. She is good with other dogs, though she cannot share with cats. We recommend Amber finds a tranquil home with sensible children over 16, to suit her reserved and timid nature, and to allow her to settle in her own time.

To adopt Amber, please email [email protected] or fill in an application form online under the ‘adopt’ section of the website www.loveunderdogs.org.

We were all so incredibly busy that we simply had to skip the newsletter and catch up with you all in the month of July. We also finally had our show! 3rd time lucky after so much bad weather in the earlier months. This was very well attended and we absolutely loved seeing so many faces (people and dogs).

Bean is about 5 or 6 and has been at the shelter about 4 years! It’s time he came out. Recently Bean has been a little less happy, due to him moving in front of the vet surgery – Bean has put on a lot of weight because he eats everyone else’s dinner so it had to be done to control his portion sizes a little better and allow the others to eat. Hopefully he will get his smile back once he is with us at kennel and even more so once he has his own family. Please share this fabulous boy, he really deserves a home and we can confidently say his smile will brighten anyone’s day!

on their way to the uKWe haven’t yet got a date for the next puppy transport but as many of you know, with every puppy transport we bring one or two extra special extra large Underdogs who really need to come to the UK.

Zerox is 13, and has lived all his life with our Romania Vet Dr Ciprian Coccianu’s mother. Unfortunately she is unwell and cannot look after him. Ciprian has tried to have him but his work life at the shelter is too stressful for Zerox who was loosing a lot of weight and became very stressed.

It is clear that this was not working for him so Zerox came to us for a better life. Ciprian took this very selfless decision very carefully and we update him every week on his dog. Please help us find a new home for this loving little dog who may be a pensioner but still has so much to offer.

at the victory shelter in Romania

Last month, our partners amP with the support of Love underdogs report the following:

May: total number of neutering: 66 Of which: 29 have owners, and 35 at the shelter48 vaccinationsNew dogs arriving at the shelter: 43 June: total number of neutering: 5214 have owners, and 38 at the shelter 65 vaccinationsNew dogs arriving at the shelter: 45

An old fracture on the spine has led to the thickening of a vertebrae, which in turn has disrupted the spinal fluid flow around the spinal chords. The pockets of spinal fluid forming on the spinal chords are increasingly affecting his coordination which is the reason he has struggled to stand up or walk recently. Bobbi is now booked in for spinal surgery to remove the pockets and re-establish the fluid flow.

The success chances for this operation are 80%. If successful, it will stop him getting worse and we are hoping for an improvement on his condition too. If we do not operate he will get progressively worse and we will be faced with a very grim decision soon. Bobbi is young, only about 4, he LOVES life and he LOVES people, he has his whole life ahead of him and we owe it to him to do the best by him.

His MRI scan and neurosurgeon appointment have been covered but we will need to fundraise a further £3800 to cover his surgery. Anything towards his fund is gratefully received no matter how small it all adds up.

THANK YOU ALL for your wonderful support, we are just all so relieved that we are able to give him a chance.

Bobbi needs our help. Bobbi came to us with severe walking difficulties and following an mRI scan on the 30th of June it has become clear that if Bobbi is to have a quality of life going forward, he will need spinal surgery.

Could you sponsor one of our long term friends at kennels and help them on their journey to finding a home of their own?

You can now do this for as little as £1 a week now via our ‘Sponsor a Shelter dog’ scheme. You will receive a certificate of sponsorship for your dog, a photo of your sponsor dog and a Love underdogs wristband. You can of course talk about your sponsor dog to as many people as you can, share their stories, share their page and hopefully it will also help them be adopted .You will get an update 3 times a year until he or she is rehomed. We will then notify you and you will be able to chose another dog to sponsor if you wish to do so.

Currently needing your support we have: Bubbles, Lavender, Luke, mabel. maximus and telo

SWISHING PARTIES

One of our particular favourites....

Swishing parties have swept the world - they

are ethical, eco fabulous, very social and lots

of fun. These parties are easy to organise, your

guests go home with wonderful new clothes

and lots of money is raised for Love

UnderDogs. It’s fun to hold Swishing parties at home or

maybe at a bigger venue, your workplace or

a local bar. Be creative ladies. The rules are very simple:

• A minimum of £10.00 entry fee is

charged (you can charge more if

you think it is appropriate).• You can provide refreshments

and charge for those too.

• Everyone is asked to bring at least one

item of quality clothing or accessory but

encourage everyone to bring as many

pieces as possible.• Spend a little time displaying the items

before the Swishing starts so that

everything is displayed to look its best.

• There will be half an hour to

browse before the Swish starts.

• There will be no claiming of items

before the swish opens.

• As soon as the Swish is declared open,

everyone may take what they want.

ENJOYWe hope that these ideas have helped and

inspired you to fundraise for Love UnderDogs.

If you have any queries please contact the

team and we will be able to support you with

How do you fancy volunteering at our associated dog shelter, the Victory shelter in Brasov from the 20th to the 27th June 2015 and raise funds for the shelter at the same time? We are proposing a fundraising volunteering challenge that will take you to one of the most beautiful parts of Europe and will leave you feeling absolutely wonderful about having made a difference for dogs who desperately need some time and attention.

The Victory shelter has between 400 and 600 dogs in their care at any one time, the conditions are basics but everyone work really hard to support these dogs and take care of them until they finally board a transport to go to Germany, France or indeed the UK with Love Underdogs.

For those who worry that it might be too hard an experience we want to reassure you that many very sensitive people have visited the shelter and spent time in Brasov and all of them have wanted to go back. It is a week packed full of emotions especially for first timers but more in an inspiring way.

In the trip you will also get to visit the fabulous bear sanctuary, which is rated one of the top five animal sanctuaries in the world, an incredibly peaceful place with 80 bears living wonderful lives in 70 hectares of forest.

You will also get to visit the famous Bran castle, home to the legendary Dracula with all it’s mysteries.

We are looking at a group of 10 to 20, raising a minimum of £1550 including a non refundable £300 deposit.

We hope that many will take up this wonderful opportunity to visit where our dogs come from, experience the work at the shelter first hand and of course come back with lots of great memories and lots to tell the world.

For more information email [email protected] or alternatively visit our website fundraising page and download the trip dossier and information pack. www.loveunderdogs.org/fundraise/
