HEY BROOKLYN TECH KEY CLUB, HOW DO YOU FEEL?
I hope you all have been having a wonderful summer and keeping cool in the heat! A big thank
you goes out to all the dedicated members who have been attending summer events. July was full
of Key Club activities, so I hope there was at least one event that appealed to you! If you weren’t
able to attend any, you can peruse this month’s newsletter for recaps of what you’ve been missing
out on.
As August approaches, the board has been planning even more events for all you guys to partici-
pate in. Be on the lookout for our 3rd Annual Coney Island Beach Clean-Up! Also, we will be releas-
ing the 2012-2013 membership application form soon. Start saving up for your $13 dues! In addition,
make sure to check your emails frequently for updates and news. Don’t forget visit our website
thetechkey.com from time to time. Webmaster Tina is constantly making changes!
As a reminder, I’m always accepting articles and images! Keep sending in your thoughts about
events. Let me know what new experiences you had, what your favorite parts about the event
were, and just anything you would like to share with the rest of Key Club! You may get to see your
name in print in next month’s newsletter. If you don’t like to write, bring your camera along to events
so you’ll have images to email in when you get home. Easy +5 points! You can e-mail me anytime at
[email protected] and send photographs to [email protected].
Thank you for reading!
Yours in the spirit of service,

06 CARING—OUR WAY OF LIFE
I had so much fun volunteering for the Asian-American Youth Center! I had a blast helping out with a
football tossing game, where kids try to throw a football through holes on a mat. It was great to see little
kids having so much fun. My station with Richard and Shijin was particularly popular because kids just
couldn't get enough of the game. Many of the same kids returned over and over again to our station,
and it was great to see them toss the footballs successfully through the holes. Although it was very humid
that day, I was so happy to help out and see the joy on everyone's faces - not only the kids, but also Key
Clubbers. It was a very tiring task to run back and forth fetching footballs, but I am glad that I was able
to help out at such a wonderful event.

Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit organization, the Asian American
Youth Center (AAYC) has dedicated themselves to establishing a youth
community center in Chinatown. AAYC’s mission is “to build leadership
in the Asian American community by encouraging youth activity
through educational and recreational projects and enriching their ex-
periences as community members.” Every other year, the organization
hosts a summer field day at Columbus Park with the primary goals of rais-
ing money for the organization and to encourage kids to compete in
competitions and play carnival games. To learn more, visit aaycny.org.
AAYC 13TH ANNUAL SUMMER FIELD DAY

JULY 14, 2012
The AAYC 13th Annual Summer Field Day for Kids was an outstanding event! Many volunteers and
dedicated members of the Brooklyn Tech Key Club showed up at this event. We also worked with
amazing members from other Key Clubs such as Midwood and Murrow. We helped out with setting
up tents, the games of skill, and assisting the relay races. We were also assigned to stations to host
the physical activities/games. I thought it was great that so many people took the time to come
out to volunteer for AAYC and to encourage kids to have fun outdoors.

The Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC), then known as the Chinatown Planning Council,
was founded in 1965 as a community-based organization dedicated to aiding the influx of Chinese
immigrants. Their biennial walkathons aim to fundraise for their many social service programs, to pro-
mote healthy living, to educate the community, and much more. This year’s walkathon was themed
“One Community. One Goal. Walk For Our Future.” Attendees convened at Columbus Park, China-
town before walking across the Brooklyn Bridge to Cadman Plaza and back for a family day fair to
collect prizes. Want to know more about what this organization does? Visit http://cpc-nyc.org/.
