I’m not sure if you all
know that Rick Deer is not
doing very well and he
needs ALL OF OUR
PRAYERS! I am a true
believer in the POWER of
PRAYER and am asking
all of you to lift Rick and
his family up in this diffi-
cult time. As you know
Rick had prostate cancer
some years ago and it has
come back and spread into
his bones. I saw him yes-
terday and he has lost
about 45lbs and is very
weak. He is taking a re-
search medication for pain
and while I don’t know
the overall prognosis I do
know that Rick NEEDS
US NOW! Charlie has set
up a web site that gives
updates on Rick’s day to
day situation and allows
visitors to sign in, please
check out the web site at www.caringbridge.org/visit/rickdeer

It’s that time again, time to break out your art sup-
plies, and give your best effort to design the Fall
Campout patch! You will find the design page in
this edition of the Smoke. Print it out, and design
something that you feel represents “Fall” and the
motto of the Indian Princesses “Friendship Al-
ways”. Please submit your design for consideration
by September 6th. All Princesses who submit a
design will win a prize.

Do you remember the old nature trail at Kon-O- Kwee? It was originally built by our YIP/YIG program, but it hasn’t been
maintained for several years. I would like to fix up the nature trail as part of my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The Gold
Award is the highest award one can receive in Girl Scouting and is similar to the Eagle Scout Award for Boy Scouts. Keep
checking the Smoke for more information. I could really use your help! If you are interested in lending a hand email me at

The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children of all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of community. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Thanks to our donors, we are able to deliver programs and services focused on nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving our community’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing sup-port to our neighbors. Please join with us in our efforts to strengthen our community by giving to the Y for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We rely on the generosity of our community to ensure that every individual regardless of age, income or background, has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive. Though the world may be unpredict-able, one thing remains certain – the Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure chil-dren, adults, families, and communities.
All gifts designated to a specific branch will receive that full allocation.
Donate online at www.ymcapgh.org.
The Y uses your gift to change the lives of children, adults and families in our community.
There are many ways to support our branch through sponsorship of events, activities, and programs. One such event is the 9th an-
nual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Heinz Field. Register at: www.walkforahealthycommunity.org. For more information, contact 866-620-WALK (9255) or [email protected].
The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community brings together 67 local nonprofit organizations that deliver vital health and human services programs in our community. While there is no registration fee for the walk, all walkers are encouraged to raise funds for the organization of their choice. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield underwrites the cost of the walk, so 100 percent of the money raised is donated to directly benefit the organization of your choice.
Walkers can look forward to:
A beautiful day! The walk will be held rain or shine.
An accessible walkway for strollers and wheelchairs.
Convenient parking will be available on the North Shore.
Food, beverages, music, activities and prize drawings immediately following the conclusion of the walk.
A chance to win prizes valued at $1,000 collectively. For every $50 that you donate or raise in support of a participating organi-
zation, you will receive one raffle ticket.
Receiving a Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community T-shirt if you donate or raise $25 or more for a participating organization
(while supplies last).
