WelcomeDear Friends,

Welcome to North Coast Rep and to the west coast premiere of Madagascar.

The summer brings with it fun and sun. Summer is full of celebrations, vacations, long days and warm nights. For North Coast Rep, the summer also brings anticipation of a new season. In September, we open another run of musicals, comedies, dramas and special events. If you haven’t taken a moment to peruse our brochure, make sure to pick one up on your way out of the theatre today.

As theatre-goers, we look to you for a great deal. We ask you to give us patronage and support. We ask for creative freedom and expect you to suspend your disbelief. Then when all is said and done, we hope that you will applaud both our efforts and our performance.

The human experience we share through live performance is irreplaceable. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to create such an experience for you.

I hope that you enjoy the play, and I hope you will come back for more.

Warmly,

Karen BeginDevelopment Director

It is always exciting to discover a playwright whose work you had not previously known. When I was asked last spring to direct a reading of J.T. Rogers MADAGASCAR at the William Inge Theatre Festival, I didn’t know what I had agreed to. As I read the script for the first time, I was drawn in by the intelligence and power of the language, the intrigue and startling nature of the plot, and the unique and fascinating way in which the story was told. I knew I wanted to bring this literate and passionate play to North Coast Rep.

J.T. Rogers is an important new voice in world theatre and will be for years to come. We are delighted to be premiering his work in San Diego for the first time.

Enjoy the show.
