As we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary throughout October, we are hoping to have fresh flowers in front of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If you are interested in purchasing flowers for a particular week In Thanksgiving for Blessings Received... or In Loving Memory of… a family member or friend, we invite you to contact the parish office. The following dates are available: October 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Sacrament of Confirmation On Saturday, September 26, Father Vincent administered the Sacrament of Confirmation at Saint James Church. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of these candidates as they are strengthened in faith, anointed with the Oil of Chrism, and blessed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The candidates are: Michael (David) Bucci, Jack (Matthew) Getty, Cole (George) Graf, Maria (Anthony) Heath, Solomon (Juan Diego) Smith, and Sophia (Catherine) Yard. We also thank the parents, sponsors and instructors of our Confirmandi who have been instrumental in the children’s spiritual formation. Your love and concern is to be commended. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen these children throughout their lives.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy. — Saint Augustine

Weekly Sanctuary Light

Each Catholic Church has a sanctuary light that burns near the tabernacle to remind us of the presence of Jesus Christ in the reposed Blessed Sacrament. The offering to burn the weekly candle In Thanksgiving for Blessings Received or In Loving Memory of a family member or friend is $10. In the month of October, the following date is available: October 25. If you are interested in memorializing the weekly Sanctuary Light we invite you to contact the parish office.

Statue Restoration When Saint James Church was dedicated in 1954, statues of the Sacred Heart and Saint James adorned the cinderblock back wall on either side of the crucifix. When the cinderblock wall was later plastered, these two statues were relocated to different parts of the church and the pedestals on which the statues were placed were stored in the rectory garage. For the most part these statues are in good condition, although some paint is beginning to peal. At the recommendation of our Parish Finance Council and Pastoral Council, these statues will be restored, as needed, and will be placed in their original locations. We are currently obtaining a price to restore the statues and pedestals. If you would like to make a contribution toward the restoration, or give a donation In Thanksgiving for Blessings Received or In Loving Memory of a family member or friend, you may place the gift in an envelope marked “Statues Restoration Fund” and put the envelope in the collection basket or mail it to the parish office. Thus far we have received $350 toward the statue restoration. The restoration will begin after the necessary funds are generated. Should sufficient funds be obtained, the excess monies will be used to restore, as needed, the Statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and Saint Anthony. Thank you for this consideration.

Withdrawal from Our Savings Due to COVID-19 our parish’s weekend offertory collections have decreased dramatically and our weekly bingo revenue has been halted. Need-less-to-say, our parish is struggling to meet our financial obligations. Our parish has $251,651 in our savings account. This past week we with-drew $5,000 from our savings to meet our finan-cial obligations. It is imperative that this with-drawal does not become a regular occurrence. As a result, we are asking for your support to help our faith community to remain financially viable. Your support of the parish through your weekly contribution and our fundraising activities is greatly appreciated.
