THE WELCOME MAT

The Church of St. John Neumann has closed. Members of that defunct parish who have found their way to Holy Child Church are most welcome. Family Mass Coffee Hour has already been planned after the 9:30 liturgy on September 10th. We now have occasion to invite new arrivals from St. John Neumann to that event so as to receive the embrace of fellowship from our church community. This intramural exercise of hospitality is a prelude to the food and friendship that the parish at large will enjoy on Family Fun Saturday 16 September. In the meantime, those who were involved in roles of service at St. John Neumann are invited to continue their service at Holy Child, if they so desire. Simply contact the office so that coordination and integration into respective schedules may be made.

Father Travers

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM

A Reminder

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion. Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

Please remember to pray daily for your Spiritual Adopted Ba-by and the baby’s mother and father.

During your earthly life this spiritually adopted child of yours will be known only to God but in the world to come it is hoped that you will meet the child whose life was spared by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with them.

Month 5

I am 5 months old now. I’m 12 inches long and I weigh about one pound. I’m really getting big and mommy can now feel me kick and move

around! Hey! Someday maybe I’ll play soccer! Keep

praying for me...

JOIN US TO HELP BRING THE LIGHT TO THE DARKNESS OF CANCER

Holy Child Parish Council Minutes June 20, 2017

The meeting began at 7:00 pm. Father Travers opened the meeting with a prayer and thanked everyone for their service to the people of Holy Child. The Ministry Leaders then presented updates on the status of each parish ministry.

Ushers: Coverage at the First Holy Communion Masses and the Pre-School graduation went smoothly. Ushers continue to be recruited to fill openings at the 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. masses on Sunday. This will be discussed further at the next usher’s meeting.

Charismatic Prayer: A Healing Mass will be held in July but not in August. The Charismatic Prayer group will not meet during July and August. Meetings shall resume in September.

Beyond Renew: Bible study concluded on, “Prayers, Fasting and Alms Giving.” Researching the next topic for the resumption of Beyond Renew bible study in the fall. There will be a notice in the bulletin of openings for new members in specific groups.

Sports Council: Basketball and softball season just wrapped up. No championship this year, however, a good time was had by all participants. Currently planning basketball registration for the fall season. The Forum continues to be a very active sports arena.

Soccer: The Holy Child Football Club had a successful 2016/2017 season. The children learned cooperative play and what it means to work as a team. There’s a total of ten teams plus a peewee division. This group is looking forward to expanding the participants in the fall season.

Youth Group: The group is currently recruiting new members as some students have graduated High School and are moving on. There are currently 25 members. The Youth Group service to the community this season included visits to Nursing Home residents, a soup kitchen, fundraising for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital ($4,171) and in collaboration with the Prayerful Mantle group, 350 pocketbooks with a scarf and toiletries were donated to homeless women. Stations of the Cross and Palm crosses were part of the Lenten season. On the social side Sundae/Sundays continue as well as a BBQ.

Singles on the Go: A pizza party was held in March. Future events will be listed in the bulletin. New members are always welcome.

Boy Scouts: There are over 54 boys in Troop 132. Two scouts were designated as Eagle Scouts this spring, with another seven working on their projects to attain Eagle Scout rank. The Cub Scouts have 41 boys as 15 joined the ranks of Boy Scout at the Blue & Gold dinner. There’s a Lion Scout Program for kindergarten boys which is a current focus to get boys interested in scouting early.

Preschool: Enrollment in the preschool is ahead of expectations for this time of year. Mini-camp scheduled for the next two weeks.

Religious Education: The program is at capacity with registrations continuing to come in. Teachers are in place for the fall semester. Bible School registration continues with some former students coming back as volunteers for Bible School.

St. Vincent de Paul: The quarterly Communion Breakfast will be held Sunday, June 25th, after the 9:30 Mass. Baby items (strollers, walkers, etc.) were collected for donation. Members will be selling tickets for the Super 50/50 for Family Fun Fair and after that selling raffle tickets for the St. Edward food pantry.

Prayerful Mantle: More than 36 crocheted baby blankets were donated to Seaman’s Institute. Members are working on various items for the troops in Afghanistan as part of a program called, “Operation Gratitude.” They will be crocheting and knitting baby items for raffle baskets for Family Fun Fair and for the Parish Baby Shower to be held in the fall. Scarves are being made for donation to St. Christopher’s and St. Francis bread line. There are no formal meetings in July & August but members continue to work on their projects at home.

Adorers: A new leader was elected at their last meeting, Ms. Joan Rochford. Adorers are always needed, especially during the sacrifice hours of 2-6 a.m.

Music: The music departments official season ends with Corpus Christi Sunday. Bell chimes were recently ordered and will be introduced at Bible School.

Deacon Jim: Continues to fulfill his calling by servicing the needs of the priests and people of Holy Child Parish. The Deacon has been asked by Father Travers to train the new Eucharistic Ministers.

Bereavement: Nothing new to report.

Family Life/Respect Life: Spiritual adoption, parish baby shower and assisting Crossroads baby bottle fundraiser are on the schedule. Marriage enrichment has a program scheduled in the fall culminating in the renewal of vows after 5:00 p.m. Mass. More information to follow in the bulletin.

Father Travers, noted the following: The Renew and Rebuild Program has pledges of $1,284,379 ($94,122 over our goal), 76% is returned to Holy Child. Scaran is awaiting permits to begin work on the removal and replacement of the cooling and heating system in the Church. Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. John Schirripa who are leaving the Finance Committee. Mr. & Mrs. John Competiello will be joining that committee and we welcome them. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Haughey are relocating and will be missed as the leaders of the Monday morning Scripture Sharing. Father Travers thanked everyone for their service to the people of Holy Child.

Parish Manager, Mary Kelly noted the following: Family Fun Fair is scheduled for September 16, 2017, with September 30th as the rain date. An initial meeting of the core group was held on May 24th and the planning is well underway. Groups will be selling Super 50/50 raffle tickets before/after Masses on various upcoming weekends. Group leaders were asked to communicate the need for volunteers for FFF to their members in addition to donations for raffle baskets.

The meeting closed at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by,

Mary-Pat Schaefer Parish Council President
