15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“He instructed them to take nothing for the journey
but a walking stick – no food, no sack, no money in
their belts.” (Mark 6:8)
How different we are from the Apostles who took noth-
ing when they ventured out to serve God. Today, we
make our journey through life more difficult because of
all the material baggage that we drag along. Yet, the
more we can let go of, the freer we are to serve God
with love and joy.
The Apostles had the faith that God asks of each of us.
We tend to think, “Well that was back then when the
Church was new—and it was needed then”. Really?
Look around you, with all the changes in morality, we
ourselves need the same kind of faith today!
--Faith is one of the three Theological Virtues:
Faith, Hope and Love are all supernatural gifts—
impossible for us to acquire on our own.
Faith is the root, Hope is the stem, and Love is the flow-
er on a single plant. If Faith is the root, it must be wa-
tered and nourished to keep the stem healthy, and for
the flower to bloom. Faith is a gift we can nurture; it is
one that can grow.
Remember, we the people of St. Boniface have the re-
sponsibility of “Growing our Church”.
Each of us is either the remedy or the problem? Which
are you? Adapted from Making Stewardship a Way of Life-A complete Guide for Catholic Parishes)
