Anthony will be in our parish fulltime assisting with the many sacramental needs here at OMOS. Just in the week that I am writing this article, we have four different services for those who have died as well as requests for anointing of the sick and baptisms. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Fr. Antho- ny to meet these sacramental needs. I wish to thank the Diocese of Rochester, and especially Bishop Matano, for assigning Fr. Anthony here as the fulltime parochial vicar in light of the gradual growth that we have experienced over the past few years. Finally, I need to thank you, the parishioners of Our Mother of Sorrows, for your prayerful and financial support of the parish we all love so much. Your financial support makes it possible to have a fulltime parochial vicar and to offer the sacraments to the members of our parish family and beyond. In light of Fr. Anthony’s ministry, we will once again be able to offer the celebration of Mass on Thursday morn- ings at 8:00 AM in our chapel. When Fr. Anthony is on vacation, we will have a prayer service in the chapel. I am joining with the ministry team in early conversations around the possibility of adding a once a month Teen Mass on a Sunday evening in conjunction with our Youth Program. More information will be coming out on this. Both Fr. Anthony and I will take turns presiding at this Teen Mass. May Our Lord continue to bless our parish. In Christ,

PRAYER LINE

Did you know that OMOS has a prayer line? The Prayer Line number is 2475912. When a parishion-er calls this number, their prayer request is then passed on to several of our parishioners who pray for that intention/person.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING FOR FREEDOM

Freedom is enshrined in our US Constitution. The First Amendment of our constitution protects our freedom of speech. However, our speech may not infringe upon another's freedom. Freedom does have its limits. And we must protect everyone's freedoms, not just ours. On this 4th of July, let us remember from whom all our freedoms originate, our good and gracious God.

Let us pray…

God, giver of all good gifts,Help us to be thankful for rest and food, and remember that, in all we do or say,you are with us, here this day.We are thankful for all you doand for everything you have given us.But above all we are thankful for our freedomsand the ability to protect others' freedom. We are free because of you.We ask for your continued blessing on all your creation.

A SPECIAL INVITATION

Dr. Sonia Garcia will again be celebrating the anni-versary of Our Lady’s Grotto on Saturday, July 21, and we are blessed again this year to have Father John Reif of Holy Cross Church as our celebrant.

The day begins with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Holy Rosary beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the Mass at noon followed by a lunch of pizza, soft drinks and sweets provided by Dr. Garcia.

All are sincerely welcomed and encouraged to attend this beautiful occasion dedicated to Our Blessed Mother at 420 Latona Road, which is off Ridge Road West just past the 390 exit/entrance.

PARISH YOUTH SECTION

Sharing the GospelIn today's Gospel reading, Jairus asked Jesus to come to his house. The daughter of Jairus was dying, and he knew Jesus could make her well again. While they were walking to his house, she died. Did Jesus give up? No way! Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid, but to keep believing that Jesus could help her. Jesus was even stronger than death. He walked into the house, held her hand, and told her to get up. Jesus admired the faith Jairus had.

PrayerDear God, you are even stronger than death. Help me to have faith in you like Jairus had. Amen.

Something to Draw

Draw a picture of Jesus and the daughter of Jairus holding hands.

Mission for the WeekJairus knew that Jesus could help him. Write down three things that you are afraid of, and ask God to help you.

THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH FOR

THE DIOCESE OF ROCHESTER

Throughout the world today there is joy and tragedy, success and failure, war and peace, dedication and un-rest. Within this framework, the Mission Church is living Christ’s command to teach, to comfort, to love.

In every diocese and in all parishes, the parish commu-nity is to share in the very life of the Mission Church by welcoming missionaries to tell their story and expe-riences through the Missionary Cooperation Plan. This missionaid program continues to unite us with the Church universal. The presence of the missionary makes it possible for us to see and hear the reallife Mission of the church in foreign lands.

During the Masses on July 78, we will welcome Fa-ther Gerald W. Aman. S.J., a Jesuit priest, originally from Rochester, New York, who is a member of the NorthWest Africa Province with many years of expe-rience in the Jesuit missions.

Fr. Aman went to Holy Trinity Grammar School and then to McQuaid Jesuit High School. He joined the Jes-uit novitiate right after graduation from McQuaid, was ordained in 1973, and then worked as student chaplain at Canisius High School.

In 1985 Fr. Aman was asked to go to Nigeria on the west coast of Africa. He has been there ever since. He spent ten years in parish work, three years as the supe-rior of the philosophate community, and five years building a high school, Loyola Jesuit College, in Nige-ria. For the last few years Fr. Aman has been the assis-tant to the Jesuit Provincial in Lagos, a city of fourteen million people.

Fr. Aman will share stories and his life experiences with our parish community.

We ask that you welcome Fr. Aman and that you please consider making a donation in our second col-lection to support the Mission Church.
