THE TROUT LINE Tualatin Valley Chapter News July/August 2003 Editor: David Illig ____________________________________________________________________________ CHAPTER MEETING Methodist Church - Wesley Hall 12555 SW 4th St. Beaverton Chapter Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm with a social get-together and the formal meeting at 7:30 unless otherwise noted in the newsletter . Board of Directors Meetings held just prior to our monthly Chapter meeting at 5:30pm Round Table Pizza, Beaverton. Thursday July 10, Member Potluck On Tualatin River. 6:00pm. Two Handed Casting Clinic with Spa Rods by Ron Lauzon, Instead of our regular meeting at the church, our July program is a potluck at Cook Park in Tigard. Cook Park is located on SW 92 south of Durham Road in Tigard. It is directly south of Tigard High School. Head west just past Tigard HS on SW D urham Road and turn south at the traffic light onto SW 92nd. Follow 92 nd about a half mile as it goes downhill and curves to the left and dead ends into the park. We have reserved picnic shelt er #3 which is at the very end of the park road just to the left of the boat ramp. This is also cal led the river side picnic shelter . You can't miss the picnic shelter. It is the only structu re down there by the boat ramp. There are paved pa rking areas. We will have a grill with burgers and dogs and buns. Please bring a side dish, and/or a dessert or salad that feeds six. Let us know what category of food you’re bringing. Call or email a Board Member, Officer, or editor. We have reserved the picnic shel ter #3 from 6pm unti l 9pm. We hope to have everyone dining by 6:30pm. Bring your families and friends. RSVP Thursday, September 11 7/7:30 Fly Fish the Surf with John Shewey, Famous fly tier, author, photographer, lecturer and angler. Intro to the hottest new area in flyfishing. Escape the crowds and find the salt. Guest President’s Column By Hank Hosfield Here it is summer already. I hope you’ve had a chance to get out. June fishing was good almost everywhere. And July can hold some of the very best fishing days of the year. Summer has traditionally been a more relaxed season for our Tualatin Valley Chapter, as we typically schedule an outing or two and give ourselves the entire month of August off from meetings and club ac tivities so we can do other stuff. Things are a little different this year . While we’re still taki ng August off, July is packed. For starters we have our annual club picnic/potlu ck at Cook Park on Jul y 10. After that is the July outing to Linton Lake. If you like pret ty, wilderness hik e-in lakes, you’ll want to reserve the weekend of July 19-20. Having been to Linton several times before, I can assure you that you’ll be very glad if y ou make thi s trip. It’s spectacula r. The following weekend we have two Embrace-A-Stream conservatio n projects to do in the upper Clackamas. We’ll need 20 able-bodi ed volunteers to get these two projects completed on July 26 th . Once again we’ll be manning crews for Tom Horning, USFS fisheries biologist worki ng out of Estacada Ranger Station. We’re also going to enlist help from outside our chapter, but we expect that our own membership will step up first to honor our commitment. All of these events promise to be qui te enjoyable. Even the heavy conservatio n work comes with some fishing at the end of the day. And if all of this weren’t enough, our chapter has once again been invited to help out with the Open Meadow School fly fishing classes that are being held July 7-17. Looking ahead, it is quite likely that either this issue or the next issue will be the last printed edition of our newsletter, as we move into the digital world with online editions viewable on our new web site, tvtroutunl imited.com, that’s set to launch this month. It is my hope that our membe rship will make good u se of our new web site to keep abreast of everything our chapter is doing. Our new web site was crea ted by Anglers Design, who donated their considerable time and talent to give us a first class web presence, which we could never have afforded on our own. When you get a chance, go visit their site, too, and shoot them an email note of thanks. While we’re thanking people, I want to mention the box of 1000 thank you cards that Andy Andrews had made available for chapter members to distribute to the many sponsors and businesses who donated items to our recent banquet auction.
