    JudoShodan Requirements (Black Belt)

    Prerequisite435 hours, 1.5 years of committed practice, and fulfillment of all ikkyu rank requirements. The student should also befamiliar with all Japanese terminology and exam formalities.

    RequirementsShodan candidates should demonstrate proficiency/competency in the following areas

    i. First three gokyo

    ii. Hold downs and escapes

    iii. 5 Chokes

    iv. 5 Armbars

    v. First three sections of Nage-no-kata1
