Fellow Parishioners, We started off the Mission Basilica 2016 Blood Drives with a net donation of 28 units of blood on January 17. This is out of 32 possible donations. This is an outstanding response. It truly helps to schedule your appointment but walk-ins are always welcome. Thank you for your continued support to our Community with this effort. RCIA DISMISSAL LEADERS NEEDED

Three leaders are needed for middle school children who are not baptized. One half hour….once a month…. you would lead the children in “breaking open the word” during the 9 AM mass. THANK YOU to the over 300 parishioners who united together to donate $142,109 to the 2015 PSA campaign and thus exceeded our goal by $13,109. These additional funds will be set aside, as promised, for air conditioning in the Basilica. This was an increase in participation from 247 parishioners in 2014. World Day of the Sick Mass.

The Diocese of Orange in conjunction with the Order of Malta will celebrate the annual World Day of the Sick Mass. This Mass is celebrated each year in our Diocese in early February in honor of the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. I am very blessed to be able to be the principal celebrant on this day, and I would like to invite as many priests as possible to concelebrate and assist in the administration of the Sacrament. I know that Saturdays are busy days for most of us, so the Knights and Dames of Malta, and all of the infirm are very grateful for your presence.

Night-Time Adorers Needed/First Mondays Only Join more than 100 fellow parishioners who have signed up for a Holy Hour with Our Lord during the parish’s First Monday Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, once a month. PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA

MENSAJE DE LA SEMANA: Seguimos el CAMINO, vamos tras las huellas de Jesús, ESCUCHÁNDOLE y, al acogerle, hacemos buena la invitación del Padre en el Jordán: “Éste es mi Hijo, el amado. Escuchadle”.

En este domingo, la liturgia se centra en la VOCACIÓN del PROFETA, aquel hombre que ha experimentado a Dios, que ha aceptado su Palabra; así, cumple la misión confiada. Y no es que no existan dificultades; existen, pero la seguridad del “Yo estoy contigo” por parte de Dios, es lo que hace posible la respuesta firme e, incluso, arriesgada del profeta.

Así nos presenta el mensaje de la primera lectura y del Evangelio de este día: tanto Jeremías como Jesús, siguiendo en la mejor línea profética, asumen esa misión, que conlleva la persecución misma, pero seguros de estar llevando a cabo el proyecto en el que Dios está empeñado.

Pero todo lo anterior, sólo será posible si el Profeta y el Testigo arrancan del fundamento que propone el apóstol Pablo en la segunda lectura: el AMOR. El amor práctico que se convierte en norma básica para la vida de las comunidades cristianas.

¡Cuántas preguntas surgen para nosotros desde el mensaje de este domingo! Nos queda terreno donde poder trabajar y profundizar. ¡DICHOSOS quienes acogen de corazón el MENSAJE de Jesús!

“ESTO NO SE ACABA HASTA QUE SE ACABA” Domingo Rodríguez Zambrana, S.T.

No, la frase no es original mía. Se le atribuye al afamado beisbolista Yogi Berra. Jugó con los Yankees de Nueva York desde el 1946 hasta 1963. Pero la considero oportuna ante la experiencia de lo común y ordinario en el pasar de los días, después de comenzar un año nuevo, hace apenas un mes. Para nosotros, los de la fe, cada amanecer es puro regalo de la Divina Providencia. Es un sacudión de satisfacción callada, el sabernos vivos, capaces, dispuestos a continuar la faena diaria. El deleite brota de un corazón que día a día se da cuenta de su propia fragilidad y su cansancio progresivo. ¡Qué bendición seguir abrazando la vida con pasión y entusiasmo! Mucha sabiduría aprendemos del proverbio, “El ayer es historia, el mañana es un misterio, el hoy es un regalo, por eso se llama presente”. Y es en ese presente, ese hoy y ahora en el que debemos enfocar nuestro empeño y energía. Parece tan sencillo y ordinario, pero si nos detenemos a pensar, nos damos cuenta que no todos nos enfocamos en la gracia del momento que nos toca vivir. Somos una acumulación de experiencias vividas desde el vientre de nuestra madre. Posiblemente, la mayoría de esas memorias son felices y afortunadas. Pero también las hay tristes y penosas. Es tendencia de ciertas personas de enfocar sus recuerdos en lo negativo del pasado. Sus vidas quedan marcadas por lo trágico, lo triste de sucesos amargos que nunca parecen desaparecer. Es entonces que el fatalismo asfixia el potencial de una superación del ayer. La Cuaresma nos llega temprano este año. Ya este mes nos abre de nuevo otro capítulo de gracia en nuestra historia de salvación personal. Es pertinente a la experiencia de conversión a la cual nos llama la Cuaresma, lo que acabamos de mencionar sobre vivir el momento presente. Todos tenemos un historial triste de pecado. Creemos en un Dios misericordioso y compasivo que ya, repetidas veces nos ha perdonado ese trasfondo de culpa. Pero urge, que ya perdonados, nos arriesguemos a restaurar nuestra propia reputación. Somos hombres y mujeres de fe. Existe una fuerza inexplicable concedida por el mismo Espíritu del Señor, que nos sostiene en nuestro continuo comenzar de nuevo en el camino de la gracia. Esa es precisamente la convicción que nuestro Papa Francisco ha querido inculcar en todos los bautizados. Somos una Iglesia maltratada por el pecado. Pero seguimos siendo también una Iglesia Santa, cuya finalidad única es la santidad universal. Somos los pecadores los que constituimos el Pueblo Santo de Dios. No existe nadie más. “Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Los sanos no tienen necesidad de médico, sino los que están enfermos. No he venido a llamar a justos, sino a pecadores al arrepentimiento.” (Lucas. 5/31-32). ¡Qué mucho nos ayuda recordar esas palabras de Jesús! Ahora bien, una mayor ayuda para la conversión personal, sería también no dejarnos controlar por esa memoria herida de pecado que todos arrastramos. ¡Yo no soy mi pecado! Yo soy una criatura profundamente amada por Dios. No hay pecado que detenga el amor incesante de nuestro Dios compasivo y misericordioso. “Entonces pasó el Señor por delante de él y proclamó: "El Señor, el Señor, Dios compasivo y clemente, lento para la ira y abundante en misericordia…” (Éxodo 34/6). Hemos aprendido que nos comportamos de acuerdo a nuestro pensar. Dime lo que piensas de ti mismo y te diré quién eres. Así de vulnerable es nuestra vida. La recomendación es pues, de mantener una mente positiva, de un sentimiento sano y saludable de uno mismo, que contribuya al proyecto de cambiar nuestra manera de ser y de vivir. ¡Eso es conversión! Vivir el momento, aquí y ahora es la clave para un presente. Hoy, este día, es regalo de Dios. El pasado ya pasó y nadie lo puede cambiar. Frustración, desencanto, ansiedad y depresión mental son fruto de una mente paralizada por la inutilidad de querer cambiar el ayer. Usualmente, los que nos rodean, los íntimos en nuestra vida pierden la esperanza de que podemos cambiar. Unos esposos, por ejemplo, pesimistas y cansados ya el uno del otro, usualmente piensan que ya ninguno de los dos tiene remedio. Lo mismo podríamos decir de unos padres respecto a sus hijos. “Ah, ese hijo mío es un caso perdido”, suelen exclamar. Lo peor en todo esto, es que muchos de los que así actúan, son gente de la Iglesia. ¿Y qué pasó con la fuerza de la fe, la insistencia de la esperanza, lo transformador del amor? Estos días penitenciales que invitan a la oración, ayuno, mortificación de los apetitos, son para fortalecer la capacidad de creer que yo puedo, que yo quiero cambiar. Nos dice el profeta Isaías (58/6) al respecto, “¡No! Esta es la clase de ayuno que quiero: pongan en libertad a los que están encarcelados injustamente; alivien la carga de los que trabajan para ustedes. Dejen en libertad a los oprimidos y suelten las cadenas que atan a la gente”. Romper cadenas incluye el atrevimiento de mirar cuidadosamente cómo estoy viviendo mi vida hoy, que determina y decide cómo voy a vivir mañana. La acumulación de días y años que hemos vivido, no deben de ser una carga insoportable que nos somete a la tiranía del pesimismo y desilusión. No somos esclavos de nadie, excepto de nosotros mismos que hemos dejado de crecer. Para eso es Cuaresma…, para que nos de coraje de lo poco y lento que hemos aprendido, porque pobremente hemos amado. Sin duda, la vida se acaba, minuto tras minuto, pero que gran lección si nos animamos a abrazar con convicción, que “esto no se acaba hasta que se acaba”.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

En muchos hogares latinos el tiempo de Navidad terminó el día dos de febrero con la levantada del Niño Dios en la fiesta de la Candelaria. Es interesante como el pueblo cristiano tiene un cierto afecto para Jesús en su aspecto de niño. Desde hace siglos con el evangelista Lucas y la virgen María la imaginación cristiana ha ido buscando al Divino Niño en el templo; con san Cristóbal lleva cargando al Niño Dios sobre los hombros mientras cruza el rió de la vida y san Antonio de Lisboa juega con el Niñito Jesús sobre un libro teológico mientras estudia la Palabra de Dios. Fueron los monjes cistercienses del siglo XII quienes primero desarrollaron esta devoción al Niño Jesús. En su afán por conocer mejor al Dios hecho humano entraban por medio de la meditación imaginativa en los cuatro evangelios. Esta meditación es un entrar en la vida de Jesús de tal manera que vives los eventos en tu corazón y desarrollar así una relación afectiva con el Señor. La devoción al Niño Dios debe ser acompañada de la lectio divina.

CONGRESO DE EDUCACION

RELIGIOSA, 2016

RECongress es la reunión anual más grande de su tipo en el mundo. El evento de cuatro días se lleva a cabo en el Centro de Convenciones de Anaheim (California) y es patrocinado por la Oficina de Educación Religiosa de Los Angeles. Inicio en 1968 como "Instituto" para profesores

de educación religiosa (CCD), RECongress ha crecido hasta incluir a personas de todas las vocaciones y reli-giones diferentes. El día anual de la Juventud, reúne a mas de 10,000 jóvenes del Sur de California y otras partes del mundo. Durante los tres días, el Congreso 2016 ofrecerá 202 conferencistas que presentarán 309 conferencias – abarcando temas que involucran el crecimiento personal, la música y temas espirituales – en inglés, español y vietnamita.Esta vez, el Congreso se llevará a cabo el día 25 de Febrero (Día de la Juventud) al 28 de Febrero del 2016. ¡No se lo pierda! POR FAVOR tiren el chicle antes de entrar en la iglesia. POR FAVOR usen los patios de afuera de la iglesia para socializar y conversar. POR FAVOR respeten a las personas que quieren rezar antes de Misa. POR FAVOR vístanse de una manera que demuestre respeto para con Dios y su casa. POR FAVOR participen activa y devotamente en la liturgia. POR FAVOR quédense dentro de la iglesia hasta después de la despedida y el canto final.
