A (Bill W) May 31, 2010 – Two solid weeks of results at the Knoxville Raceway have Skip “Action” Jackson just one point out of the top five in points. The runs come before a big three-night race week with the World of Outlaws Thursday through Saturday. On May 22, Skip started outside row six for the main event. “We were a little tight early on, and unfortunate- ly, we didn’t qualify too good (14th),” he says. “The first half of the race, we were o.k., but a little tight.” After running in place for much of the feature, Skip caught fire towards the end and started picking cars off. He would register fourth at the checkers, and earn hard- charger honors for the night. “The track wore out as the race went on, and we kept getting better and better,” says the two-time Knoxville Raceway track champion. “It was nice to pick off a couple of cars at the end.” There has been some added experience in the pits the past two weeks in the form of wrench Troy Renfro. “Troy has been helping us out the last couple of weeks, but I think Larry (Woodward and driver Johnny Herrera) is ready to go back racing now,” says Skip. “It was good to have Troy around.” Last Saturday night, in front of the biggest weekly crowd in recent memory, Skip qualified 13th in the 21-car field. After winning his heat handily, he again moved forward in the feature. “We went from tenth to seventh, so we weren’t terrible,” he says. “We just weren’t good enough to get that last little bit that we needed. We’re going to keep working at it. The guys up front were going really good.” The big crowd on Pella Corporation night was not lost on Skip and he hopes it can continue. “That was the best crowd I’ve seen in years and years,” says the veter- an. “Hopefully, there will be some of those people that want to come back.” The World of Outlaws, and several other invaders will be in this Thursday through Saturday for the Mediacom Shootout Hall of Fame Classic. Skip looks forward to the challenge. “They bring out the best in you,” he says of the WoO. “Sometimes you get hammered pretty hard when they come in, but they give you a good reality check. I like racing with them because it makes you get better.” To learn more about Skip Jackson and the J&S Auto Sports #2 team, visit www.SkipJackson.net! (Bill W) April 27, 2010 – For a eighteenth year, Skip “Action” Jackson returns to weekly racing at Knoxville Raceway in the familiar J&S Auto Sports #2. Skip is a two-time track champion at Knoxville, and has never failed to finish outside of the top ten in the final point standings. He has finished in the top five in fourteen out of seventeen seasons at the famous ½ mile.

Last winter, Skip had an opportunity to run where it all started…the Parramatta City Raceway near his hometown of Sydney, New South Wales in Australia. Twenty years ago seems like yesterday. “My first time in a sprint car was Christmas night of 1989,” reminisces Skip. “I’m just very grateful to have the people around me helping, and to be able to do this as long as I have. I’m just as excited as when I started driving, and when I first came here in 1991. It was just a huge deal just to race here (America) in the first place.”

As far as the car goes, outside of Good-year tires, not much has changed for 2010. “We’re back with J&J chassis and Shaver Mo-tors, of course,” says Skip. “Slideways Karting Center and Turfwerks are among the part-ners who are helping us out again. We’ll be racing at Knoxville every Saturday night.”

help form the J&S Auto Sports team. “With good people like my brother, Paul, and Rob-bie helping me…it makes a huge difference,” says Skip. “Hopefully, we’ll do a good job for them, and I’m happy to have my family in the stands watching us race.”

For an unprecedented fifth straight time, Skip was voted the most popular driver among the young fans at Knoxville. He accepted the Junior Fan Club 410 Driver of the Year award at the banquet in November. “I’m very grate-ful for that,” he says. “The kids are great, and I appreciate them coming down. I remember when I was a kid, and it was pretty special for me. I can understand what it’s like.”

Although the Slideways/Turfwerks #2 will still have a primarily black look, there will be some changes in design. “Graffiti Graphics just did a heck of a job with the car again this year, and I think the fans are going to like it,” says Skip. “I’m not much of a graphics guy, but they did a great job with the car.”

SKIP JACKSON - CAREER WINS 1990 - 2009

SKIP JACKSON SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Skip exploded on the scene at PCR. He recorded the fast time of the night at the World Series Sprintcars (WSS) stop (13.890), and won three races during weekly competition. Back in the U.S., he would pilot the Sid Moore #2AU car at Knoxville. Debuting on June 15 with a sixth place finish, he went on to qualify for the main event in his first Knoxville Nationals ever. He finished fifth on his preliminary night, and ran 14th in the finale. His best weekly finish at Knoxville came the Saturday before Nationals when he followed fellow countryman, Max Dumesny to line, having surged from 11th.

Driving for legend Bob Blacklaw at PCR, Skip won two races and finished third in points at PCR in the #78. He drove the Robuck #12 at Knoxville and finished a respectable 4th in points in his first full year at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.

Skip claimed the first championship of his career at PCR. Driving for Brian Linigen and Rob Worthington, he claimed two wins. Driving for the Robuck team at Knoxville Raceway, he claimed tenth in points. It would be the only year to date that he competed full-time at Knoxville and finished outside of the top five.

Again driving for Linigen and Worthington at PCR, Skip finished in the top five in the standings. Skip scored his first Knoxville Raceway win by piloting the Robuck #12 to victory on Twin Features Night, July 9. A strong season saw him finish third in the points race.

For the first time, Skip teamed with his brother Paul “Down Under”. The pair was helped by Sid Moore, who supplied a car, and Bill Gibson Freight. The team caught fire towards the end of the Australian summer and pulled down five wins. Skip made the switch to the VanderEcken #10 team back in the States. He set a Knoxville six-lap record on August 5. He was fifth in the points hunt at Knoxville, and qualified for his second Knoxville Nationals finale, after a second place run on his preliminary night. A highlight of the weekend was his Australian/American Challenge win on Friday night. Skip also recorded a win at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Missouri on October 14.

Skip was voted Australian Driver of the Year and won the “Racer’s Racer” Award from his peers in his homeland. The awards followed an excellent season in which he teamed with brother Paul to win another championship at PCR and record eleven wins. Skip continued with the VanderEcken team through the Nationals in August. He garnered a win with them, before joining the Serace, Inc. #55 team. A win at the end of the year, foreshadowed a good run with the team. He finished third in the points race at Knoxville.

1986-88

1985

1989

Skip started racing go-karts in the Sydney area.

Skip was second in New South Wales Dirt Championships.

Skip started racing Compact Speedcars (3/4 midgets) at Liverpool Speedway and learned much from Rob Worthington. Lessons learned included the manufacture and set-up of cars from the ground up. Much can be attributed to today’s sprint cars and Skip’s dream of driving them.

1990

1991

1992

1993

Skip won eleven times “Down Under” and recorded his second WSS title in a row. Skip recorded six wins (Claremont, Bunbury, Speedway City, Mount Gambier, Nyora, Newcastle) and recorded six quick times during the series run. He was voted Motorsports News Aus-tralian Competitor of the Year, Voted Australian Driver of the Year for the third consecutive time, won the Warnambool Classic, won the King’s Challenge at Mount Gambier, and was voted the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Australian Driver of the Year. Back at Knoxville, Skip dominated the competition in the #55 with seven feature wins. Skip led 120 feature laps on the season to lead all competitors. He won his third Australian/American Challenge at the Nationals, and qualified for his fourth finale, by strength of a second place finish on his preliminary night. He recorded another win at Huset’s Speedway on May 17.

In a fierce battle with Randy Hannagan, Skip pulled off his third WSS title in a row in the #7. The team was the only one to finish every race in the series. He had two wins (Speedway City, Newcastle) and two quick times. The team won five races overall in Australia. For the second year in a row, he was voted Motorsports News Australian Competitor of the Year, and for the fourth year in a row, was voted Australian Driver of the Year. Back in the U.S. Skip finished a close second to Terry McCarl in the Knoxville point race. The #55 won five times and led the most feature laps (96). Skip also showed his passing ability by winning the Lyle Boyd “Hard Charger” Award. He won the Season Opener at Knoxville for the second year in a row, won at Huset’s on May 23 and with the IRA at the famous Terre Haute (IN) Action track on April 10.

1994

1995

1996

1997

1998

1999Skip teamed with Terry Darvil and Bill Gibson to win WSS championship in his first year running the entire schedule in the #7. He recorded three wins with the series (Claremont, Mount Gambier, Speedway City) and recorded seven fast times. He registered ten wins overall in Australia and was again voted Australian Driver of the Year. The racing team received the same honor. Back in the U.S., teaming with the Serace, Inc. #55 team paid off big time. He won the Knoxville Raceway track championship recording two wins along the way. He qualified for his third Nationals finale, and won his second Australian/American Challenge, paying $5,000 to win. He won his first career feature at Huset’s (SD) Speedway on May 18, and won his first Interstate Racing Association (IRA) feature at the Grant County Speedway in Lancaster, Wisconsin on September 6.

Skip returned to Australia to help out car owner Barry Lewis and began his sprint car career driving Lewis’ car at Parramatta City Raceway (PCR) near Sydney.

1984

Skip arrived in the U.S. and helped Danny Smith, who was driving the Hammond/Gennes-see Beer #56. Skip was on a crew with Brad & Steve Fox, who now field the non-wing car of 2006 Driver of the Year, Jon Stanbrough.

SKIP JACKSON - SEASON HIGHLIGHTS (cont.)

Skip finished third in WSS points behind Brooke Tatnell and Donny Schatz, and suffered a few DNF’s and a couple crashes. He recorded one WSS win at Horsham and registered three quick times. He picked up the $10,000 to win race at Baccus Marsh before Christmas (’99). He also won “The Australian Title” race. After some strong seasons racing at Knoxville, Skip decided to test the tough central Pennsylvania circuit. Driving the famous Zemco #1z through May 16, he then finished the year in the Keen #53. Despite racing with some of the best locals in world, Skip was able to post a win at Port Royal Speedway on March 25. Despite driving for two teams, he finished in the top ten in points at Williams Grove Speedway, Selinsgrove Speedway and Port Royal. Despite recording the second quick time of the night in his return to Knoxville during the Nationals, a heat incident took him out of contention in one of the lightest cars ever weighed at the famous half-mile.

Teaming with the Krikke #2 team, Skip started clicking in the middle of January and finished third in WSS points behind Tatnell and Dumesny. He recorded one win (PCR) and three quick times. After a rubber-down track at Horsham, the team had the “honor” of being the first to be DQed for the weight rule in Australia. Skip won “The Australian Title” race for the second year in a row. Skip returned to Knoxville, and to the #55 team, now owned by Tony Vermeer. The team finished fifth in the points and recorded one win. Skip was named Knoxville Raceway 410 “Sportsman of the Year”.

Teamed with the Krikke’s again, things didn’t go too well in Australia. Three total wins were recorded, but none on the WSS tour, where he finished fifth. Driving the Robinson #21, Skip was had a very strong season. He finished second to McCarl in the points and recorded two wins.

Skip did not race in Australia, but formed the J&S Auto Sports #2 team with friend Rob Sirfus and brother Paul Jackson for Knoxville. He recorded a third place points run and another Knoxville win. He was able to pull off his first 360 Sprint Invaders win, driving for the late famous car owner Rich DeReu. That win in the #50 came on September 25 at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.

The racing was limited at PCR in Australia as the track made its transition to 410 sprints, but the J&S Auto Sports #2 team was strong at Knoxville getting another win and garnering fifth in points. Skip qualified for his fifth Nationals finale and was voted the “Junior Fan Club” Driver of the Year, an award given to the young Knoxville fans’ favorite driver.

Skip was honored to be voted among the 100 greatest drivers in Australian history. The list was bestowed by Australia’s biggest weekly auto racing publication, Auto Action Magazine. The J&S Auto Sports #2 team finished fourth in points at Knoxville. Despite the disappointment after running in the top three for most of the year, the finish meant that Skip has finished in the top five in points for an unprecedented 14 of 15 years racing full-time at Knoxville. He recorded a win in his last race of the year at 34 Raceway in Burlington, September 2. He drove the Mark Burch #1m on occasion in some 360 specials as well. Skip competed in his seventeenth career Nationals appearance, which is tied for 20th all-time. He was voted the Knoxville 410 “Junior Fan Club” Driver of the Year for the third year in a row.

As the family started growing in the U.S., Australian endeavors declined. A few forays at PCR were in the offing, but a third place run was best. Things kept rolling in the JTR Rac-ing #21 back at Knoxville, where Skip finished fifth in points and recorded another win.

Skip continued his limited schedule at PCR in Australia with his highest finish being third. At Knoxville, the J&S Auto Sports #2 won another feature and finished fourth in points. The win meant that Skip had had at least one win in every full year he had raced at Knox-ville (10 years). His 24 career wins rank ninth on the all-time list. Skip was again voted the Knoxville Raceway “Sportsman of the Year”, and “Junior Fan Club” Driver of the Year.
