Ian Curtis was the author of all songs and he was a front man of the band. Group was called in hopeless depressive manner because of gloomy Curtis’s lyrics and his underworld voice. But low, disinterested Curtis’s voice contrasted with his performances on stage, which he accompanied with strange jerky movements resembling epileptic convulsions.

As it turned out, Ian really was an epileptic. With the development of the band his state of health deteriorated. And in 1980 at age 23, being depressed Ian Curtis committed suicide.
