I went to Tarapoto last-

minute, because my flight to

another destination got

cancelled due to weather.

Still, I am very glad to have

made it to this location in

Peru.

Tarapoto is a unique place

because it is high-elevation

jungle great for nature views

and tours.

There are many hotel options,

including some all-inclusive re-

sorts. I stayed at Rio Shilcayo,

but there are a few others avail-

able depending on your budget.

Many hotels also organize tours,

so they’re great even if you Lake Sauce makes for an

excellent day tour!

Tarapoto is a small town, and it’s recommended to

ask your hotel front desk to call you a cab or moto-

taxi if you would like transportation rather than hail

a cab from the street. Many drivers can be hired for a

whole day to go to multiple sites for one fee.

missed– if you like fresh fish you

can find it here. Be sure to try

tacacho, which is an appetizer

made with plantain and fried

pork. Coffee connoisseurs will

also enjoy trips to the Oro Verde
