Transforming mothers FACING INCARCERATION INTO PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS.

I have my own place, my own car, and my children are back with me full time. This has been a life changing experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world; it made me who I am today. Thank you ReMerge!”

MISSIONReMerge is a comprehensive evidence-based female diversion program designed to transform pregnant women and mothers facing incarceration into productive citizens.

HISTORYIn August 2010, the Inasmuch Foundation and United Way of Central Oklahoma gathered a small group of thoughtful committed citizens to address the rate at which we incarcerate women in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma County Collaborative included members of over 25 nonprofits, community funders, and government agencies. A year later ReMerge was born.

VISIONWomen with children facing non-violent crimes are given an opportunity for treatment and rehabilitation, providing an alternative to incarceration in Oklahoma County.

VALUESWhen alternatives to incarceration are offered that include evidence-based treatment and removal of barriers, mothers can become productive citizens, capable of caring for themselves and their children and leading a crime free future, thus breaking the intergenerational cycle of incarceration and poverty.

The community leaders recognized the opportunity to break the cycle of intergenerational incarceration and poverty.

A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACHRather than be sent to prison, mothers remain in the community with their children while receiving comprehensive, wraparound services to treat the root causes of addiction, substance abuse, and mental health. In addition, mothers are encouraged to enroll their children in quality, early childhood educational settings and play an active role in their child’s education. Both mother and children receive services to strengthen the family bond and break the cycle of incarceration and poverty.

THE PROGRAMFour phases, lasting 18-24 months, designed to move mothers through the program toward self-sufficiency, stability, and recovery. After successfully completing the program, participants graduate and have the opportunity to have their felony charges dismissed.

1. Assessment & Stabilization 2. Treatment & Education 3. Demonstrate Recovery Skills & Leadership 4. Independence & Self-Sufficiency

COMPREHENSIVE SERVICESEach mother has a support team including a Therapist, Care Coordinator and Recovery Support Specialist to develop an individualized plan of care.

Truth be told, the choice was mine and mine only. I could’ve taken the easy route to prison, but I like a challenge and I wanted my life to change. In the past 18 months I’ve learned so many new things about myself.”
