Spring/Summer 2019 - TxSSAMT THE NEW TEXAN 3

Page 4: Journal of Allied Health Professionals

Hi TxSSAMT Members, Since the last journal, we have hosted two amazing and unique

conferences.

The Fall 2018 was hosted by Alfonso Clemmings, MT at the San Antonio Zoo. We had a full lecture room with many knowledgeable speakers right above the hippo exhibit. We got to experience the Friday night social in two parts – first feeding the giraffes with appetizers and cocktails; then we moved to the hippo viewing room and had a luscious dinner. It was well received by all in attendance and we had so much fun! Our Convention coordinator, Michelle Hege, certainly out did herself with a memorable experience that proves we can have continuing education AND fun!

The Spring 2019 conference continued our experiences “outside of the box” by hosting 8 lectures aboard the Carnival Cruise Ship Valor. Your board of directors dug deep and presented many personally inspiring lectures that were well rounded and informational. We had 24 in attendance that would come and go as they want. It was so well received that we are thinking of repeating the experience Spring 2021!

The Fall 2019 conference details are still being finalized but I am happy to announce that TxSSAMT is headed to NASA! Mark your calendars for November 15-16, 2019. This conference will be hosted by Dranette Murray, RMA and we are super excited.

The Spring 2020 conference will be back up near the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex with Joyanna Bly, RMA as our fabulous hostess. She is brainstorming with ideas that may include tours of facilities and a Wine Bar during our social.

If you would like to present a lecture at any of our conferences, then feel free to reach out to us! Our email is [email protected].

The website is continuously updated with information as it becomes available. EZ register will be updated once we get the host hotel and room rate locked.

Kindest wishes,

KatKatrina Fryar, MT(AMT)TxSSAMT President

AMT will be holding their 81st Educational Meeting and Educational Program at the

Chicago Hilton Hotel, 720 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois from July 1 thru July 5th, 2019. Room rates will be $129+ tax a night for single or double occupancy. If you would like two double beds with two bathrooms, the rate is $159 a night plus tax. Be sure to register early in order to receive the early discount. It is important to be an active member, not only at your state society meetings, but as a delegate from your state at the National Meeting. The 2020 AMT meeting will be held in the Western District. The location will be announced as soon as the site is secured.

Don’t forget to record your continuing education units online with AMTRAX. It makes it easy to keep up with your CEU’s in case you get audited or just to keep up with your education. There is a User’s Guide to AMTRAX that can be downloaded from the website that shows how to record your education in case you need help. If you had rather use your Smart Phone, there is a convenient mobile app.

Did you know that AMT now offers the Reach Certificate Program that is specialty training in the areas of ECG, Point of Care and Immunization? The course is online and takes about 5 hours to complete.

I want to encourage each of you to join us in Chicago.

Thank you,Taffy K. Durfee

Greetings to all! Thank you for submitting your CEU answer sheets. Please continue to do so,

keeping in mind that only those CEU articles, found in our State Journal “The New Texan”, within 5 years from the current date are eligible for grading. If you are still looking for some free CEUs, go to the Texas website, look under “Newsletter” and download the appropriate “The New Texan” journal.

I am always looking for CEU articles to put in “The New Texan” to share with our State members. Perhaps you came across an unusual diagnosis in your lab or office or just wish to share some insights. Go ahead, write an article and submit it. We will work with you to get it approved by the AMT National office.

Before mailing your answers sheets, remember that: (1) 80% is passing. (2) Double check your answers. Do not leave unanswered questions. (3) Ensure your email address is legible on all your papers. Sometimes I have to check the other sheets to decipher the handwriting. (4) If the answer sheets do not have a space for your identifying information, write it at the top of the sheet. (5) When copying the answering sheets, look them over to make sure that you did not cut off or blur any of the questions. Remember, you can go to the online edition of “The New Texan” and print the blank answer sheet.

Continue emailing me your questions and concerns. If you do not have your graded results within 14 days, please contact me.

The TxSSAMT Fall 2019 meeting will be in Houston on the 15th and 16th of November. I hope to see you there.
