This bribing of support and hired actors should be considered illegal and should be revaluated by policymakers to prevent further attempts at misrepresentation I believe there should be a fair portrayal for both supporters and those who oppose restrictions, as I think there are fair reasons for both that should ultimately be up to the voter to decide. However, I think it can be considered a form of fraud for large oil companies to essentially “trick” society into thinking there are supporters against the restrictions. I think there should be laws enacted and restrictions placed that prevent companies from sponsoring groups of “supporters” in favor of their opinions. Grace Chen 22805133Journal Entry 1Although I think there are legitimate pros and cons that both should be weighed when we consider greenhouse gas restrictions, I do strongly believe its unethical to forge a bandwagon of sponsored support. This bribing of support and hired actors should be considered illegal and should be revaluated by policymakers to prevent further attempts at misrepresentationI believe there should be a fair portrayal for both supporters and those who oppose restrictions, as I think there are fair reasons for both that should ultimately be up to the voter to decide. However, I think it can be considered a form of fraud for large oil companies to essentially trick society into thinking there are supporters against the restrictions. I think there should be laws enacted and restrictions placed that prevent companies from sponsoring groups of supporters in favor of their opinions. I think, for instance, it would be fair to place a law that enforces formal and transparent disclosure of all sponsors, be it individuals or firms, to grass-roots organizations, so they are not misrepresented as every day individuals. I think this law would dissuade not just oil companies, but all companies to sponsor groups of supporters in favor of their opinions. We see this happening in all industries, such as the beverage industry, against restrictions against sugary drink products. I think society should have a very transparent understanding of policies decided upon, and have the freedom to form an opinion void of opinionated facts. I believe there definitely needs to be action take to prevent monetary support for or against measures to be voted upon.
