SPRING conjures images of agarden in full bloom with aburst of colours. Add a fewbutterflies flitting here, andthere and you get a picture

of spring.The idea of a perfect garden cap-

tivated Schoeffel, the world’s mar-ket leader in fine pearl jewellery, tolaunch its newest collection whichis inspired by butterflies and flow-ers.

Fleurs des Papillons (Flowers andButtterflies in French), the theme ofthe Schoeffel Spring Show 2012 atHilton Kuala Lumpur recently, fea-tured jewellery by the Germancompany set in 18 carat gold andintegrated with diamonds, andhandcrafted mother-of-pearl into athree-dimensional butterfly andflower motif. A matching pearl wascarefully selected as the centrepieceof the design.

The House of Schoeffel was found-ed by Wilhelm Schoeffel in 1921 as apearl trading business. Now in itsfourth generation and under themanagement of Till Schoeffel, thefamily-owned company has attainedinternational importance in theexclusive market of exquisite pearlsand has elevated Schoeffel as an

international luxury brand.At the annual show hosted by

Poh Kong, Malaysia’s largest jewel-lery retail chain store and Schoeffel,guests were introduced to the latestpearl jewellery collections and pearlstrands released at the annualBaselWorld Watch and JewelleryShow in Basel, Switzerland.

“Some RM15mil worth of pearls,strands and jewellery pieces wereexhibited,” says Joseph Lim YewMeng, Schoeffel’s Asia Pacific man-ager.

The most expensive piece was theRM800,000 Le Printemps (meaningSpring) necklace which has 10 whiteSouth Sea pearls (15mm) and 889diamonds (totalling 33.68 carats).

“Malaysia is the first to ‘see’ thecollection after Basel. After thisexhibition, the jewellery will returnto Germany,” he says.

The pearl has never been moreyouthful or more thrilling than it istoday, cites a Schoeffel pressrelease.

“Bohemian style is unthinkablewithout a lavish abundance ofpearls. No business conference iscomplete without the impeccableelegance of its lustre.”

Pearl jewellery can also be adapt-ed to every outfit and occasion,whether for “discreet sophisticationor a glamorous impact”.

For more classic lines, delicatecombinations of pearls and bril-liant-cut diamonds are teamed withlarge, hyper-floral designs in goldand crystal. Those who prefer moreextravagant creations will love thesmall menagerie consisting of afrog, a crab, an octopus and a fish,each clasping a pearl.

For that red carpet occasion, the

masterpieces in the CoutureCollection are stunning creationsthat evoke glamour.

At this year’s BaselWorld,Schoeffel launched its innovativepearl-inspired line called TheCreative Collection for youngwomen who want something dif-ferent – it’s a cheeky, sexy andtrendy collection. Unconventionalcombinations allow pearls to reveala different side of their character.For example, Tahiti pearls are thecrowning glory of white-gold tasselnecklaces or bracelets made ofstingray skin, fur and pearl.

This season’s emphasis is on TheCouture Collection – Papillon andThe Classic Collection – Butterfly.

These collections feature exqui-site jewellery pieces in soft hues,immortalised as small butterflieshandcrafted from mother-of-pearlwith a shimmering solitaire pearl.The butterflies and pearls engage in“a playful dialogue” in a garden bedof gold with sparkling diamonds.

The Couture Collection – Fleurd’Amour (Flower of Love) and La’Mystique and The Classic Collection– Hyper Dahlia and Crystal Flirt arethe other major collections.

The collections are built on theimagery of a mystical gardenblooming with passion and sensual-ity capturing the eyes of a woman

gazing into the morning sun. Amagical display of Dahlias and crys-tal flowers cradle a beautiful pearl.Flower petals paved with diamondsreflect brilliant light with everymovement.

The Rainbow Necklace, Lim says,is a mix of golden South Sea pearlsand Tahitian and freshwater pearls.A 42cm-long choker costs fromRM30,000 to RM200,000. For thosewith a love affair for pearls inwhimsical and delightful designs,these collections will add a summerfeel to your wardrobe this season.
