Wild about Africa for over 30 years

“Man did not weave the web of life. He is merely a strand within it.Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”

I believe that every developer has a responsibility to the land and the people who live upon it. A responsibility to ensure that the vision which the land has inspired, is brought to life, no matter how difficult or time consuming. Through the years, what has kept us ahead is

passion; a passion for land and the pursuits it inspires.

Passion helps you see the Big Five roaming free, where once only cattle and fences existed. It allows you to succeed where others fail. And, most importantly, it helps you overcome the ordinary and achieve the extraordinary.

Jordan Properties has become synonymous with premium developments across the country and around the world as a developer and consultant, from syndicated developments to timeshare, country estates to marine and wildlife reserves. We have built a solid reputation for innovative and unique developments, always pioneering.

I would like to share with you our dreams, visions and ideas that so many people and communities have helped bring to reality. In the pages that follow I have summarized some of the projects which we have developed and been involved with over the past 30 years.

PROPERTY DEVELOPMENTTo survive and prosper as a developer you have to be a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. The various fields of expertise we have attained over the years are a product of experience; each development has taught us invaluable lessons. What follows is a collection of achievements that time and experience have been generous enough to grant us.

EAST AFRICA PROPERTIESWe are in partnership with an International Property Management and Development Company, EAP which operates out of Mauritus. EAP currently has a three year management contract with three listed Zimbabwean companies. The offices administrate and manage commercial, industrial, residential and leisure properties, a portfolio worth in excess of US$40 million.

Our relationship and knowledge through this offshore operation provides an ideal opportunity for investors of the future and further African developments.

CONSERVATIONWe have conceptualised and established eight proclaimed private nature reserves. This impressive collection includes the 11 500 hectare Thornybush Game Reserve and the 26 000 hectare Welgevonden Reserve in the Waterberg, two of our Big Five reserves and more recently the Big Four 15 000 hectare Blue Canyon Game Conservancy. It also includes the truly unique 30 000 hectare Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary which combines both terrestrial and marine habitats in one environment. This model was presented at a conference in Geneva by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as a model for sustainable developments.

GAME RELOCATIONWe have over the years become experts in the stocking and relocation of various species, from egrets to elephants and bush-babies to buffalo. One of the most significant was our involvement in the first ever relocation of elephant family groups into Thornybush Game Reserve and two years later, from the Kruger Park to other private reserves. Our latest reintroduction was in 2008 when we relocated elephant, lion, leopard and general game to Hoedspruit’s Blue Canyon Game Conservancy.

COMMUNITY PROJECTSThrough various projects, past and present, we have contributed over 8 000 beds to the leisure and tourism industries of Mpumalanga, Limpopo Province and Mozambique. We have provided employment for over 1 800 people during development phases, and permanent employment for over 1 000 people. All of the developments we have been involved in over the past three decades total more than R6 billion. But beyond beds and bottom lines, the various lodges, reserves and private estates displayed on these pages have achieved much more. The quality of life of the individuals and families that live within them have advanced, ensuring that areas of Africa’s protected wilderness remain so for decades to come. We have been privileged to work alongside a host of partners and professionals whose expertise, insight, passion and support have helped us achieve a level of success that is often attempted but seldom attained.

Rhino Revolution, HoedspruitA world first community based anti-poaching initiative of which we are co-founders. For more information on the initiative call their 24 hour hot line on +27 82 385 9812.

COMMUNITY UPLIFTMENTJordan Properties has been a major contributor to the skills development and upliftment of various local communities through implementing and supporting numerous self-sustaining community projects, from bush clearing and construction skills, to computer centres and hospitality services.

We have also built schools and a clinic for communities in Mozambique and South Africa. Our projects have, directly and indirectly, embraced tens of thousands of community members in upliftment related to ecotourism.

GOVERNMENT LIAISON AND PUBLIC RELATIONSJordan Properties has consulted with Government and companies on issues ranging from ecotourism to marketing strategies and with property owners on evaluating their property opportunity and maximising output. Trevor Jordan has addressed the House of Lords Subcommittee on African Affairs and Conservation in Southern Africa. He also presented a private/public sector sustainable environment project model at the October 2002 World Summit for Sustainable Development, co-presented with the USA Government Agency – Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) – and has advised the Tanzanian Parks Board on commercialisation of their national parks. Trevor Jordan was also a major player and influence regarding the removal of the Western boundary fence of the Kruger National Park incorporating large private properties.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISMOver the years we have conceptualised, marketed and managed various hospitality establishments. Amongst others, we managed Thornybush Private Game Reserve and its lodges, successfully marketing these luxury lodges to both the international and domestic tourist markets.

It also boasts a 32-bed commercial lodge site. Leadwood adjoins the well known Raptors View Wildlife Estate development. Owners at Leadwood are in close proximity to the Southern Cross School, which offers schooling to children from Grade 0 through to Grade 12 (Matric).

Leadwood Big Game Estate is situated only 15 minutes from the town of Hoedspruit and 40 minutes from the Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate.

Hoedspruit is fast becoming a desirable relocation destination. With spectacular mountain views, bushveld air, clear skies, wildlife and a healthy climate, Hoedspruit offers the perfect permanent or holiday retreat for those wishing to be part of the tranquility of the African bush.

Raptors View Wildlife Escape comprises a total of 58 units – studio apartments and two and three bedroom homes. Each resident has freehold ownership of their unit. Affordability, safety and quality are a trademark in the design of these units.

Facilities include 24 hour security, a communal recreational area and viewing deck. The village is situated three kilometres from the Drakensig Air Force Base Sports Club facilities, which include golf, tennis, bowls and many other sports. Investing in Raptors View Wildlife Escape promises value for money, security, comfort and the beauty of the African bushveld. Owners have collective use of a game drive vehicle which allows a traverse on the 1 300-ha Khaya Indlovu Big Game Reserve.

Situated on Hoedspruit’s main road, Raptors Safari Junction offers investors or tenants the choice of 19 freehold-title commercial sites, a first of its kind. This project offers owners a unique financial investment in a fast-growing local economy.

Raptors Safari Junction encompasses the essence of the bush with its low density layout and design. The architectural requirements allow for timber walkways, paved driveways, boutique type stores and offices, ensuring minimum detraction from the natural beauty of the area. Raptors Safari Junction affords owners and tenants the opportunity of working in an aesthetically pleasing and relaxed environment. Occupants are selected to maintain high standards.

This 1 300 hectare, Big Game reserve forms part of the greater 15 000 hectare Blue Canyon Game Conservancy. The Sandspruit River winds its way through the farm and choice residential sites have been carefully positioned near the river bank or for spectacular mountain views.

This is truly a unique development as the reserve is located close to the town of Hoedspruit, and has a very low density with only 45 stands. It gives owners the best of both worlds, bushveld living in a major reserve and yet minutes from the shops of Hoedspruit. Local residents are able to traverse this reserve which is home to white rhino, lion, elephant, leopard, hippo and all the plains game species indigenous to the area.

It all began in 1984 with a simple meeting between two men about a piece of land. There was the old Dyason family game lodge and little more. Today it boasts no less than 13 luxury lodges, spread over some 11 000 hectares of prime African bushveld – from the rustic charm of Chapungu Lodge to the glamour of Royal Malewane. Piece by piece, through lengthy negotiations and innovative deals, Thornybush Private Game Reserve has grown and matured into one of the country’s premier wildlife destinations.

It was home to the first adult elephant family group relocation ever undertaken. The first meeting of all involved, in the removal of the Kruger Western boundary fence, was hosted here. Thornybush stands as a testament to what like-minded individuals with a common vision can achieve. It stands as an example of Jordan Properties’ commitment to creating unique and outstanding wildlife experiences.

Thornybush Main Lodge is an excellent honeymoon choice, inviting you to enjoy unspoilt nature, sweeping vistas over the savannah and active waterhole, or just slow down and unwind. The stylish air-conditioned living areas and bathrooms with massive windows, overlook the seasonal Monwana River. Superb attention to detail and highly personalised service all make for an unforgettable stay. They say an African safari is a life-changing experience. A stay at Thornybush Main Lodge is no different.

Situated in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve, these four luxurious 8-sleeper lodges are fully serviced and managed by the Reserve. Monwana, Serondella, n’Kaya and Shumbalala give the owners all the advantages of owning a boutique game lodge without the hassle of having to market it themselves.

Each secluded lodge is luxuriously appointed with individual swimming pools, bomas and bars, and has a full complement of dedicated staff including a ranger, housekeeper and chef. In addition to game viewing decks, the lodges have a curio shop and a library in which to relax between game drives.

Developed in partnership with two friends and sharing the southern end of the Thornybush Private Game Reserve with Jackalberry, Kayatula Lodge is a 16-bed private camp with its own unique blend of luxury and charm offering three separate self contained 4-bed suites. Game drives are taken in open safari vehicles with highly trained rangers and trackers. At the end of the day, a hearty bushveld dinner is served in the open air boma, where one can relax by the crackling camp fire.

The first syndicated lodge in Thornybush Private Game Reserve, Waterbuck Lodge nestles between magnificent vistas of the Drakensberg mountains and a hippo-filled dam. This superb private lodge offers exclusive accommodation and access to the Big Five diversity of the Reserve.

Waterbuck Lodge consists of four luxuriously themed suites surrounded by indigenous bushveld, guaranteeing total privacy. Each chalet is decorated in true 5-star style. A central entertainment area with boma, bar, dining room, lounge, pool and deck area, all overlooking a hippo watering hole, is the ideal setting for intimate meals and great game viewing. Syndicated between ten owners, each is entitled to five weeks a year rotating in the 8-bed, 4 suite luxury lodge. Waterbuck Lodge is another highly successful example of combining the exclusivity and splendour of a private game reserve with the simplicity of syndication.

For the most discerning of bush lovers, syndicated to only five owners, the River Lodge at Thornybush is situated in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve. Thornybush is one of the country’s premier wildlife destinations where you will find the Big Five roaming on the 11 500 hectare reserve.

With this development, Jordan Properties has created the ultimate wildlife luxury lodge that gives you a complete bushveld experience in supreme luxury style. The River Lodge consists of three spacious self-catering executive suites and one four sleeper presidential suite.

Each of the suites has its own swimming pool, lounge area and beautiful elevated deck, giving guests ample space to bask in the Lowveld sun or just soak up the beauty of the surrounds with its large indigenous trees. When the owners are not utilising their particular units it is possible for another owner to make use of the entire lodge.

Jordan Properties converted ten previously separated farms into one large private game reserve. The Blue Canyon Game Conservancy is situated between the Greater Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve in the Hoedspruit area.

In his continued quest to expand conservation areas, Trevor Jordan spearheaded the creation of the Blue Canyon Game Conservancy, 15 000 hectares of richly diverse bushveld, proving once again that it is possible and plausible to harmoniously integrate the environment and commercial enterprise in a workable and mutually beneficial relationship.

Jordan Properties has brought big game onto the fringes of the town of Hoedspruit, with the result that the presence and natural wonder of the animals draw over 500 000 visitors to the area annually. Leadwood Wildlife Estate is within the boundaries of this new 15 000 hectare conservancy which contains four of the Big Five with the exception of buffalo.

Khaya Ndlovu offers the ultimate luxury experience in an old colonial style setting. This upmarket five bedroom guest house is situated only five minutes from Hoedspruit and lies within the 15 000 hectare Blue Canyon Game Conservancy.

This majestic guest house offers the refined comfort of plush indoor and outdoor living areas, with a beautiful outside dining area overlooking the natural bush. A rim-flow swimming pool overlooks the magnificent Drakensberg mountain range and a waterhole, where animals congregate in the late afternoons and early mornings - an ideal spot for sundowners.

A large landscaped garden with beautiful trees is a haven for any garden lover and keen birders will enjoy the abundance of bird life this garden attracts. Khaya Ndlovu is the ideal retreat to relax and get away from it all.

Just 10km north of Hoedspruit you will find the jewel in the crown of our wildlife estates. The beautiful and totally secure Wild Rivers Nature Reserve is positioned on the Main Road north of Hoedspruit. Situated on the confluence of the Blyde and Olifants Rivers, Wild Rivers Nature Reserve consists of 31 exclusive residential sites positioned to maximise the spectacular views and over 7km of perennial river frontage. The reserve nestles amongst ancient indigenous trees such as the huge Fig, Leadwood and Essenhout trees, adding to the tranquillity and beauty of this special estate.

Wild Rivers is also the site of a 16-bed commercial lodge situated near a picturesque hippo pool. This unique 2 500 hectare estate forms part of the 12 000 hectare Blyde-Olifants Conservancy. Teeming with game, Wild Rivers is alive with birds and is home to the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl and is a protective breeding site for Herons. The well known ornithologist, Dr Warrick Tarburton, described Wild Rivers as “The best birding experience in the entire Lowveld”.

N’tsiri set the standard for all syndicated private game reserve developments. It was the first ever syndicated shareblock concept in a wildlife estate. Such was the popularity of this ground-breaking idea that the initial 50 shareblocks sold out within a week. Today, it is not uncommon for owners who bought in for R20 000 at the project’s inception, to sell for more than R3 million.

This privately owned 210-unit Ingwelala shareblock is situated in the heart of Umbabat Private Nature Reserve, approximately 65 kilometres from Hoedspruit. Bordering on the unfenced Kruger National Park, N’tsiri and the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Ingwelala offers the thrill of being in Big Five country with over 230 species of birdlife.

The concept of Ingwelala was to combine quality with affordability. It will be a long time before any other development can offer a similar quality bush experience at a comparatively low cost. Each owner has access to more than 3 000 hectares of prime Big Five reserve.

Roodekrans Game Reserve’s later addition to N’tsiri brought the total number of shareblocks from 50 to 65, increasing the total area of the reserve to 3 000 hectares. Even though these developments were done so many years ago, they remain today as great accomplishments.

Among private game reserves, Welgevonden has few equals. Hidden deep in the foothills of the Waterberg, Welgevonden is a private Eden of over 26 000 hectares of unspoiled wilderness. Once a hunting and cattle ranch, over time its natural abundance of wildlife was complemented by the introduction of the Big Five, the result of one of the largest game relocation programmes ever undertaken on private land.

Welgevonden is a popular safari destination. It is only a two and a half hour drive north of OR Tambo Airport, in a malaria free area. Over 50 owners have freehold title to 500 hectares and traversing rights on over 26 000 hectares of the Reserve’s numerous habitats. Developed in partnership with Rand Merchant Bank and the Du Plessis family, Welgevonden is a rare example of how areas of Africa’s wilderness can be enhanced and protected through innovative project development.

Millstream is a retreat for the sense and for the soul. Only a two and a half hour drive from Johannesburg, Millstream boasts 25 hectares of teeming trout water set in a 400 hectare site. 25 turn-of-the-century styled stone cottages offer a style of luxury country accommodation. Millstream was one of the first timeshare trout fishing projects developed in South Africa.

Finsbury Flyfishing (1990)

Finsbury is situated in the ancient Drakensberg Mountains, in 2 500 hectares of pure tranquillity, embraced by the breathtaking amphitheatre of the 200 million-year-old mountain range. Finsbury offers 26 kilometres of three rivers filled with Wild Browns and Rainbows. Just 25 kilometres from Lydenburg, this magnificent nature reserve embodies the philosophy of “minimum people on maximum land”. Finsbury with its 25 privately owned trout lodges, is regarded as one of the country’s premium private fishing estates.

Nestled among rolling hills blanketed with forests, White River Country Estate features a magnificent eighteen-hole championship golf course. But golf is by no means all this exquisite estate has to offer.

Beyond its secure grounds lies a province blessed with some of South Africa’s most spectacular attractions: God’s Window. Bourke’s Luck Potholes and Pilgrims Rest are but a few. The Kruger National Park is a mere half hour drive from the Estate. All of this is wrapped in the temperate Lowveld climate; literally outdoor living weather 365 days a year. Each house has a panoramic view of the golf course or the Lowveld, with generous open spaces and cul-de-sac roads ensuring privacy. Security is outstanding with perimeter fencing and controlled access. The estate adjoins one of the country’s finest schools – Upland Prep and College.

Pinelake Timeshare is a prime vacation ownership fronted by five kilometres of placid lake and rolling forests, just half an hour from the Kruger National Park, and three and a half hours drive from Johannesburg. The relaxed, peaceful, country farm atmosphere makes this an ideal retreat to just “chill out”. Developed in partnership with Southern Sun, Pinelake’s 34 chalets offer owners all the advantages of the Lowveld’s superb climate and its host of outdoor activities. It remains one of the most popular year-round timeshare destinations in South Africa.

Lake Longmere Country Estate is an exclusive waterfront private estate limited to just 25 luxury units adjoining Pinelake Timeshare. It gives owners access to all the area’s outdoor activities and the added privacy of a more secluded setting. Built around a working farm, Lake Longmere boasts a pace of life not governed by the clock, but by the seasons.

In partnership with Rand Merchant Bank Properties, Jordan Properties Offshore Developments pioneered timeshare in Greece with the launch of Club Mykonos in 1984. Situated on the beautiful bay of Ornos, Club Mykonos is the ultimate destination on the island of Mykonos.

This timeshare resort sold into a huge broad base of nationalities and is affiliated to RCI. The accommodation at Club Mykonos exudes simple elegance. The 40 rooms and suites combine minimalism with typical Cycladic décor and have great views of the bay and ocean. The hotel offers all the facilities of a first class hotel coupled with Greek hospitality.

This breathtaking 30 000 hectare sanctuary lies in the southern area of the Bazaruto Archipelago, and encompasses seven of the eleven important natural habitats identified by the World Bank – more than the Kruger National Park or Tanzania’s Serengeti. With 54 residential sites and upmarket lodges – comprising a total of 120 beds – this model of low-impact, high-value ecotoursim has uplifted the community through job creation and will preserve the dynamic biodiversity of the region. Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary is regarded as the top property development in Mozambique.

Home to endangered species such as the Leatherback Turtle and the Dugong (sea cow), this development is pioneering and multifaceted. The terrestrial wildlife on the Sanctuary is being restored through a large scale game relocation operation, and will ensure the future of ecotourism in the remarkable, well protected area. The Sanctuary was recently presented as a world leading model at the World Summit on Conservation.

The luxurious 28-bed Dugong Lodge is a half hour boat ride from Vilanculos on a peninsula, across the clear-water Bay of Vilanculos. There is a daily scheduled flight from OR Tambo Airport to Vilanculos, and a private strip on the sanctuary. The lodge derives its name from the fabled Dugong, a massive lumbering sea creature related to the elephant and thought to be a mermaid by sailors centuries ago. It is now critically endangered in the Indian Ocean waters.

Dugong Lodge is in the heart of the 30 000 hectare Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. Famed for its magnificent biodiversity, the sanctuary is home to ecosystems ranging from rainbow coral reefs to fresh water estuaries, sand dunes , numerous inland fresh water lakes, mangrove swamps and Miombo woodlands. The lodge offers guests the exclusive luxury of an Indian Ocean dream holiday. Activities include world-class fishing, tropical-ocean snorkelling and diving, as well as wildlife and birding safaris.

This island lodge is located on the north-eastern side of Linene Island, forming part of the greater Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary. It is situated in an estuary on a deep-water channel for easy access to the Indian Ocean.

The lodge is a syndicated ownership with ten members, each with five weeks a year where they can enjoy fishing, kayaking, sailing, boating, snorkelling, diving, walking, game viewing, sunbathing and relaxing, or just simply taking in the beauty of the unique island. The décor and style of the lodge comes from the word “safari” which is a Swahili word meaning “journey” or “to travel”. By combining old and new, the lodge has a distinctive safari look of simple, carefully conceived luxury. Ilha Linene Lodge enjoys full access to the sanctuary including game drives, birding and exploring the lakes. The estuary has been named as one of the top five hotspots in the world for its uniqueness and biodiversity.
