Troop 157 Eagle Court of Honor & Awards Banquet“Mount Up With Wings as Eagles”

Jonathan Beck is the 14 year old son of Dr . Howard and Cass Beck and Mike and Dr . Suzie Liner . He was born the youngest of three children . His sister Kristen is a senior at Texas Christian University and his brother Andrew is a junior at Trinity Christian School . He has four step siblings Mikella, Russ, Cade and Kami . His grandparents are Dr . George and Connie Beck and the late John and Cricket Adams . Jonathan is a native of Lubbock . He received a strong foundation at Trinity Christian Lower School and is currently an eighth grader at Frenship Middle School .

Jonathan approaches life with enthusiasm and truly strives to be the best he can be in all his endeavors . He is an energetic Frenship Tiger and is passionate about football where he was a defensive starter for the 8th grade “A” team . In seventh grade, he was named the outstanding football player . In the spring season, he participates as an athlete on the track team . Jonathan is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and is on the “A” honor role . Playing trumpet in the Frenship Middle School Gold Band is another important highlight in Jonathan’s school activities .

Outside of school, Jonathan is involved in the youth group at Bacon Heights Baptist Church . This group provides accountability and encouragement in his Christian walk . Jonathan looks forward every summer to spending weeks at the Christian sports camp, Kanakuk Kamp . He recently

received the highest honor at camp when he received the “I’M THIRD” award . It is given to the young person who exemplifies a life style which models “God first, others second, I’M THIRD .” For Jonathan, this is not just a statement or motto, but a daily walk that he strives to carry out .

Introduced to scouting as a Tiger Cub and progressing into Cub Scouts, Jonathan immediately enjoyed the friendships, camaraderie and activities that scouting brought to his life . Winning the pinewood derby is one of many terrific memories from Cub Scouts . Introduced to Boy Scout Troop 157 in 2006, Jonathan found limitless challenge and adventure . He has served in several leadership positions and is currently the Senior Patrol Leader . The Pecos Wilderness trip remains one of his favorite experiences along with working on the waterfront at Lake Murray during summer camp and being tapped out for Order of the Arrow . Motivated by Popcorn Kernel Chuck Smith, Jonathan approached local corporations and sold popcorn . As a result, Jonathan topped the nation in Boy Scout popcorn sales in 2008 . He is a member of the 2010 Jamboree Troop which will attend the 100th Anniversary of Scouting Jamboree at Fort A .P . Hill in Virginia . A Philmont trek is also in Jonathan’s plans for 2010 .

Seeking to find a project with community wide impact, Jonathan implemented and supervised “Backpacks for the Homeless” as his Eagle Project . Used backpacks were donated by school students and filled by scouts with hygiene and personal items donated from local merchants . These were distributed to the Homeless of Lubbock through Family Promise and Carpenter’s Church .

Scouting has been instrumental in growing and developing many of the God given qualities that make Jonathan the young man that he is today . He has a heart of compassion committed to service for others, a keen mind filled with insight and wisdom, and a spirit determined to finish the race well . The adult leadership of Troop 157 represents an unmatched level of commitment to our scouts . You have made a lasting impact in this young man, for “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another .” For your investment and your encouragement Jonathan is eternally grateful .

To each of you who have taken the time to teach, to listen, to encourage, to coach, to discipline and, most of all, to love… .thank you .

Jonathan Matthew Beck

Joseph “Keith” Scioli, 18, is the son of Sharon and Paul

Scioli, and brother to Chris, Theresa, Vanessa, Angela,

Anthony and Paul Joseph Jr . Scioli . His grandparents

are Dr . John Mottet (also an Eagle Scout) and Mrs . John

Mottet and Dr . and Mrs . Eugene Scioli .

Keith started his scouting career in Pack 151 as a Tiger

Cub . He loved camping, helping in the community and the

Pine Wood Derby . He also received his Arrow of Light and

then joined the best of the best, Troop 157 . He has been

at every summer camp and a lot of camp outs since then .

He was tapped out in the summer of 2008 and worked

as a mirror in his first ceremony this past summer . His

favorite camping trip besides summer camp was when he

went to Camp Kanik and made and lived in an igloo for

a couple days while taking day hikes in the snow . He has

backpacked through the Pecas wilderness and camped all

over . He loves to do the Tubing Rodeo at summer camp

and eat the five star food served there . Keith has served

as Troop Scribe, Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader,

Troop Chaplain, and has helped teach classes .

Keith attended All Saints School in middle school and

junior high where he played football basketball and track

and golf . He was in the Drama club, NJHS and in student

council . From there he went to Coronado High School

where he is currently a senior . He plays Varsity football

and baseball . He has participated in basketball and track

and is currently in NHS, FCA, STUCO, and Mock Trial .

Keith is a 4 .0 Honor roll student and will attend college

next fall .

His Eagle project consisted of building a sitting area for

the mentally challenged classes and other visitors at the

South Plains Food Bank Farms . He cleaned up a lot of

weeds, laid wooden mulch and then built a raised stone

flower bed with a bottle tree in it . Then he built benches

to put around that . The classes can now all feel part of the

volunteer work instead of some inside the building doing

nothing and others outside working .

Keith has a lot of passion in everything he does and has

a strong sense of dedication and responsibility . Scouting

has given him one of the biggest tools anyone could ever

have to become a leader in today’s society . Growing up,

he has gained a huge passion in sports . Sports has been

a main role of Keith’s life and has taught him, much like

scouting, how to be a leader and go get what you want

through hard work and dedication . Keith has a faithful

heart for God and people around him . Keith is a member

of his church at St . Elizabeth’s church and his youth

group .

Keith would like to thank all of the adult leaders and Mr .

Payne . Without the many upon many of adult leaders and

friends to help, this honor would not be possible . Keith

has grown into a great young man because of the many of

leaders and examples around him . Thank you again for all

of your support and efforts and God Bless .achievement of

the rank of Eagle Scout .

Joseph Keith Scioli

Evan is the 16 year old son of Tina and Terrell Thompson . He is the big brother of Allison and Morgan Thompson, and the grandson of Jo Thompson and C .A . & Eloise Price of Sweetwater .

Evan is a junior at Monterey High School, where he is active in advance placement classes, and looks forward to his math and science classes every week . Evan has a long history of pursuing and balancing his love of athletics and his love of music . Evan is a 3 year varsity letterman on the Monterey tennis team . He is also a three year member of the Monterey band, and was elected low brass section leader for the 2009-2010 school year . Evan was named the most improved brass player in the Monterey band after his sophomore year . Evan is also a proud member of the National Honor Society

Evan is a member of St . Luke’s United Methodist Church, where he further uses his musical talents in the youth and adult choirs and in the church orchestra . Evan is very active in St . Luke’s youth ministry, and is a regular participant in the youth’s mission trips and outreach projects .

Evan began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub at Waters Elementary when he was a first grader . The first meeting he ever attended was the pack’s annual bicycle rodeo, and after one meeting, Evan was hooked . He has been a cub scout or boy scout continuously for the last 10 years . After several pinewood derbies, backyard campouts, field trips and service projects, Evan received his arrow of

light in 2004 and immediately joined Boy Scout Troop 157, where he remains an active member today . Evan has served Troop 157 as a patrol leader, junior assistant scoutmaster, and two tours as assistant senior patrol leader, including presently serving the troop in that role . Evan was tapped out for inclusion into Order of the Arrow at the troop’s annual summer camp in 2006, and is a brotherhood member of OA Lodge 150 . Evan is a frequent merit badge and rank advancement instructor, and has served as co director of the cowboy interpretative camp, and waterfront co-director, at summer camp . Evan is also a member of the South Plains Council’s Jamboree Troop and looks forward to attending the Centennial Boy Scout Jamboree next summer . Evan loves to camp out, loves to climb with ropes or without, and is always willing to do whatever is needed to insure a successful campout or regular troop meeting .

Evan’s eagle scout project was centered around landscaping at St . Luke’s Methodist Church’s new facility at 98th Street and Frankford Avenue . After much discussion with the leadership at the church, and after tossing around several ideas, it was decided the best way to help the outside grounds at the church was to improve, clean, fertilize and prepare the soil around the building to make it suitable to hold grass, flowers, and plants . The church property is very rocky and mostly clay, and not much was growing there . Evan’s project including digging up and clearing out about 1400 square feet of rocky soil, sifting it free of rocks and trash, mixing it with fresh topsoil and compost, and putting all 1400 square feet of dirt back where it came from . Evan also designed and built 8 ground level flower boxes for the property, and stained and sealed the wood used to make them . Almost 140 man hours went into this project, and Evan wants to thank all the scouts, scouters and volunteers who helped make the project a reality .

Upon graduation from Monterey, Evan plans to attend Texas A&M University, much to the chagrin of his Red Raider parents, and hopes to study engineering or math . Evan hopes to always carry his love of scouting, and his love of God and country into everything he does in the future .

Evan wants to thank all of the family and friends who have helped him along the way towards becoming an Eagle Scout . Evan especially wants to thank Fred Wacker, his cub scout pack leader, Mr . Bentley and Mr . Payne for their strong leadership and example as scoutmasters of Troop 157, Mr . Slay, Mr . Smith, Mr . Cherry, Mr . Vance, Mr . Pauwels, Mr . Gosdin, Mr . Simpson and Dr . Marx for their amazing leadership and support of his scouting career, and to all the scouts and scouters who make Troop 157 the best place to be .
