The Gospel According to Luke 14: 1-6
Opening Prayer
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
A reading from the Gospel According to Luke.
On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy.
The Gospel According to Luke 14: 1-6
Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking, “Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
But they kept silent; so he took the man and, after he had healed him, dismissed him.
Then he said to them, “Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?”
But they were unable to answer his question.
The Gospel According to Luke 14: 1-6

Silent Reflection• How do you honor God by keeping holy the
Sabbath day?– Do you pray or go to Mass to worship God?– Do you serve those in need within your
community?– Do you refrain from vile things and impure
thoughts?– Do you take a break from the craziness of your
everyday life in the world?– Do you relax and take time for yourself?

Closing Prayer
Prayer for Generosity of St. Ignatius of Loyola
Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve; To give, and not to count the cost;To fight, and not to heed the wounds; To toil, and not to seek for rest;To labor, and to ask for no rewardExcept that of knowing that I am doing your will.
