JON LOMBERG Jon Lomberg is one of the foremost artists inspired by astronomy. His 25 year partnership with Carl Sagan produced some of the most important science inspired art of our time. He specializes in unique message artifacts for distant times and places. Outreach and Educational projects Jon Lomberg has participated in and has led many astronomy outreach events in Hawaii, working with Keck and Gemini Observatories and at his Galaxy Garden including Curiosity’s landing on Mars, Transit of Venus, and public stargazing. He is on the Advisory Board of The Planetary Society and the UWINGU project. In 2012 the Chinese Academy of Sciences invited Jon Lomberg to become Cultural Advisor for the magazine Chinese National Astronomy. This unusual honor was made because his distinguished history in communicating astronomy to the public. Awards • Certificate of Excellence from the American Institute of Graphic Arts for the cover of Broca's Brain by Carl Sagan 1980 • Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Creative Technical Crafts, COSMOS series • DESI Award from the magazine Graphic Design USA for the nuclear winter artwork in PARADE magazine 1984 • Prize for Best Video Documentary at the Vermont World Peace Film Festival for the videotape “Global Atmospheric Effects of Nuclear War”" 1984 • Armstrong from the Columbia University School of Journalism for the radio documentary program "Halley's Comet" 1987 • Annual Best Children's Science Book Award given by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for the "Life In The Universe" curriculum for grades 4-9, in the Life Science category. 1992 • 50 Best Science Blogs of 2009 The Open University, Science Online .
