In Memoriam
Erik Michael MontiJanuary 16, 1994 – January 21, 2020
Erik grew up in Tewksbury, MA where he attended Tewksbury Memorial High School and graduated in the Class of 2012. Erik enjoyed golfing and playing hockey with his friends. He also loved attending football games; his favorite team was the Patriots.
He had a few different jobs after high school but struggled to find his passion – something that he would really enjoy doing for the rest of his life. That was until he was accepted into the JATC of Greater Boston, where he could learn from working in the field and going to school at the same time. This was the perfect fit for Erik, he loved his job and was extremely passionate about everything he did.
Erik’s family and friends are extremely grateful for the opportunities that were given to him from this program. He found a career that he really enjoyed doing and met a lot of great people along the way. He was very proud to be a part of IBEW Local 103 and was looking forward to the day he would get to graduate with his classmates.

he science of electricity is constantly changing and expanding. With this increasing knowledge, the electrical industry has expanded from nothing to the third largest industry in the United States in less than one century. This rapid expansion means that the Electrical and
Telecommunications Apprentice must be given a sound basic training in the knowledge of the Trade, supplemented by sufficient instruction in the theories of electrical and electronic science.
The Electrical and Telecommunications Trades are unique in that they are mechanical, technical and professional. They must select men and women who have a natural aptitude for using tools and at the same time, are gifted enough to master the knowledge of the thousands of installation and maintenance procedures.
The Electrical Industry by its very nature, places a high degree of personal responsibility on the individual Journeyman and Technician. While supervision is provided on many jobs, the Electrician or Technician still finds himself or herself called upon constantly to make decisions regarding the best and safest method on installation to produce a given result.
Electrical and Electronic installations today have become very complex and a faulty installation can prove extremely expensive and hazardous. Much of the important work is hidden from view when the job is completed and any defect in this hidden work can cause property damage and endanger human life. The modern Journeyman or Technician takes pride in the appearance of his work, as well as the technical correctness and structural soundness.
The Joint Committee representing the parties to the basic labor agreements has dedicated its time to develop efficient Programs of Apprenticeship so that Apprentices of today through systematic program of schooling and on-the-job training can become the qualified all-around Journeyman or Technician of tomorrow. The degree of success that the Joint Committee has in its operation will depend entirely upon the willingness of the various segments of the electrical industry in the area to cooperate in this type of joint activity.
All functions of the Committee shall be on the basis of non-profit endeavor for the good and welfare of apprenticeship and training for the industry and tor the best interest of the Apprentice, Management, Labor and the Public.
