On September 12, we will be hosting our annual North Hills 5K road race and this year we will be adding a partnership with Midtown Alliance and their “Get Moving Midtown.” In addition to our race there will be excursive classes and many fun events. The purpose of this day for us is two fold. First, we will be raising funds for the Backpack Buddy program through North Raleigh Ministries. Backpack Buddies helps feed children over the weekend from food-insecure homes. Here are some startling facts:
• Nearly 121,000 children (46%) in our service area applied for free or reduced price meals during the 2013-2014 school year.
• 1 in 4 children are at risk of hunger in North Carolina.
• 1,850 children were served 68,450 BackPacks at 55 sites in 7 counties during the 2013-14 school year.
• Through North Raleigh Ministries 118 children will receive food this school year through Backpack Buddies.

Support Gatherings forAdult Children of
Aging ParentsBegins Thurs., Sept. 10 • 6:30pm • Parlor
Whether your parent(s) is living with you, or s/he is several states away, the biblical commitment to honor our parents weighs heavily on our hearts when quality of life fades. This gathering meets every other month in the relaxed atmosphere of our Church Parlor. Each has the opportunity to share with the group about the joys, concerns and frustrations in relating to his/her parent(s). You are not going through this alone, and there is much to learn from each others’ experience. You can join up at any time. Rev. Melton and his wife Roberta facilitate the sharing. No need to sign up – just email Hal and let him know you will be there! ([email protected])
Marriage Enrichment Groups
(Beginner & Ongoing)
Begin Friday, September 11 Sign-up on the Narthex Board Now!
A Marriage Enrichment Group (MEG) is an ongoing small group that provides a safe place for married or engaged couples to explore their relationship among supportive peers. Each MEG is as unique as the couples in them. All couples are there for the same purpose – to strengthen and grow their relationship.
The MEG goal is A Commitment to Growth, An Effective Communication System, The Creative Use of Conflict, and Frequent Expressions of Affection and Affirmation.
MEGs meet once a month with up to 8 couples and a Leader Couple. Each month the couples will address a different topic. The goal is to focus on their relationship. The majority of the time is spent with couples dialoguing about the topic of the week as it concerns their relationship.
Operation Christmas Child
Will you be ready?
Be sure to pick-up a few extras of all those great back to school bargains available now. They will come in handy when you fill your OCC box in November.
Consider signing-up to help with the Packing Party that TBC will be hosting on November 13th & 14th in the FH. We need lots of helpers to pack 2,000 shoeboxes, so if you have a Sunday School class, civic or school group that wants to serve, email me and tell me what time slot you would like to fill.
The time slots are 8:30am - 1:00pm and 12:30 - 5:00pm on either Friday or Saturday, November 13 & 14. We could also use some help on Thursday, November 12th to pick-up the supplies and set-up in the FH.

Jobs For LifeBegins Sunday, September 13
TBC has partnered with Jobs for Life (JfL) for nine years in an effort to help those who are underemployed and unemployed in our church and community to learn about God’s plan for work, discover road blocks in their lives to getting a job, and gain the skills and confidence to do an effective job search. This is done through an excellent curriculum provided by JfL. The Lead Team is ready to meet new students this fall. The class will meet Sundays from 5:00-7:00pm and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm in A-214.
Applications were due into the office by Sunday, August 30th.

Music CalendarSpecial thanks to Maury Tepper for the beautiful saxophone solo on the hymn, “He Giveth More Grace” this past Sunday morning. I think this hymn, which is in our hymnal, has such encouraging words for us for our journey as Christians. Be encouraged!
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater;
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase.
To added affliction He addeth His mercy;
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
His love has no limit; His grace has no measure.
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men.
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again!
This is our first week of Preschool and Children’s Choirs and we are ready for families and children at Trinity! With the dawn of a new choir year, we have some changes in the forthcoming year of Preschool and Children’s Choirs this year, and our directors and leaders are preparing for September 2, our first rehearsal, at 6 pm. Thank you, parents, for coming to the Block
Party with your enrollment forms already filled out. You can still enroll your child(ren) this Wednesday night. Look for these directors who will be ready for you…

Linda Dollar, Young Musicians Choir
The Sanctuary Choir began their Christmas music for this December this past Friday and Saturday. We had an excellent turn-out and are prepared for a new season of music-making together, but more importantly, worship leadership each and every Sunday. If you still would like to get involved in this ministry at Trinity, there is always room if you can make the commitment to rehearsals and worship services. Don’t let another year go by without at least trying it! Pray that God will reveal a way you can use your gifts at Trinity and follow His calling.

What is Worship to You?Worship involves encountering the Lord, meeting Jesus, hearing God’s Word and lifting our voices in praise. Worship is not just a refueling time to get us through another week. It is not a system of traditions built up over the years of congregational life until we feel comfortable. It is also not a time to unwind, relax, take a mental vacation and enjoy an hour of Christian entertainment.
Worship should be the surrender of our souls to a God who is jealous for our attention, time and love. Worship is a challenge. With children it is a bigger challenge. Like most sports or activities children participate in, they learn by doing, practicing and experiencing. Children learn to worship by worshipping—through participation, practice, and patience. The task can be overwhelming if you take it seriously. Training children to worship is best taught by parents or the significant caregivers in their life, not necessarily professionals.
Worshipping parents in the pew can show by example what it means to seek God, to love God’s Son, and to respond to the Holy Spirit in worship. Children learn that prayer is important when they see their parents make it a priority. Children learn to give generously when they witness their parent’s doing it. Children dress, sing, participate by following example as well as instruction. When worship is an obvious joy to parents, children will expect to experience the same.
We value our children and their experiences at church. Let me encourage you as parents to make the most of the opportunity to share
in worship with your child. And we as a church will try to do our part to include your child, encourage their understanding and share with them God’s love. We welcome the new kindergarten class into the worship experiences. May they continue to feel God’s presence in a larger room and discover church in a new and exciting way.
“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord.’”
– Psalm 122: 1
