In June 2014, Samsung partnered with Hong Kong
Education City (HKEdCity) and Association of I.T.
Leaders in Education (AiTLE) to sow the seeds of
e-learning with the Samsung Smart School
Citizenship Program.
Fueled by the dedication of 67 schools – 34
primary, 30 secondary and three special schools –
and fully supported by eLearning Consortium
(eLC) and Hong Kong Institute of Family
Education (HKIFE), this e-learning community has
been growing day by day.
Remarkable milestones
The first phase of this Program focused on
recruiting participants, training, building a
knowledge and experience-sharing platform, and
engaging the education sector. In only a few short
months, over 3,350 stakeholders including
teachers, students, parents, top government
officials and Samsung employees have been
positively impacted or expressed their support.
Most importantly, after the schools were equipped
with Samsung E-learning Sets (approximately 2,400
tablets, pre-installed with Samsung School Solution,
and 67 printers in total), many almost immediately
reported significant improvement in student
engagement and motivation.
The Program
has also received
notable industry
recognition. We
were ranked one of
the “Top 10
e-Learning News in Hong Kong in 2014” by Dr.
Wilton Fok, Director of e-Learning Development
Laboratory at The University of Hong Kong, and this
was reported in a prominent newspaper in Hong Kong.
Recently, the Program received the PC Market eKids
Distinguish Award 2014 for outstanding leadership
and innovation in kids’ development.
We have created a video to illustrate the Program and
success so far. View it now at:

Looking ahead
We are excited to continue this momentum in phase
two by fostering our e-learning community and
reaching out to other schools with limited or no
experience in this area.

We used Samsung tablets to enhance a P.3 English lesson.
Students created their own email accounts and wrote emails to
their teachers. English has always been dreaded by these
students, but e-learning has created a real-life scenario of English
usage. Students were highly motivated by this lesson.

Lessons have been running more smoothly since we adopted the
School Mode of Samsung School Solution. With an external IP
dedicated to Samsung School Solution server, which hosts all
lesson materials such as images and questions, teachers can easily
login and prepare their lessons anytime, anywhere.

We successfully used Samsung E-learning Sets to implement
an interschool Maths contest. Samsung School Solution was
a stable and efficient platform for managing student
participation and event flow. We used the S-Pen for some
written answers and even replaced the “quick response
buzzer” with tablets. The contest was a lot of fun; students
were strongly engaged.

Students can collaborate on the same “page” using web-
based whiteboards. Teachers simply set a theme for their
online whiteboards and share the browser URL with students
via Samsung School Solution to let them draw or write on the
same whiteboard.
