gladius classical guitaristInspired by the great composers, Spanish guitar maestros, and much more, this musical mad scientist fuses the elements into a refreshing formula — evoking the Spanish spirit, yet distinctly unorthodox, mixing influences ranging from classical to rock and beyond. In an era when expertise and originality are often overlooked in lieu of fleeting flash and flare, Gladius defines innovation as a composer and mastery as an instrumentalist — perpetually pushing the boundaries of his Baroque-Ethnic-Metal fusion, on both the classical and electric guitar.

Just a few short years ago however, it appeared the guitarist’s career might have been finished before it ever started. A mysterious medical condition manifested its symptoms literally overnight. On June 14, 2005, while studying classical guitar at Georgia State University’s School of Music under Professor John Sutherland (former Andres Segovia pupil), the aspiring virtuoso suddenly suffered from a rather crippling case of nerve damage, greatly hindering the sensation and dexterity of both hands.

Much later, thanks in part to numerous surgeries and extensive physical therapy, Gladius debuted with Post-Operation Demonstration on June 14, 2011, demonstrating immense perseverance in spite of the debilitating condition — physically, musically and spiritually. The album received a bit of airplay on Christian rock radio. Beyond the Riff described the sound as, “The first type of music that actually goes ‘Beyond the Riff.’”

Gladius perseveres — relentlessly touring, composing recording, inspiring audiences of all ages, opening for his influences (including Phil Keaggy), and winning numerous composition AWARDS:

• Carry on a daily routine as much as possible.

• Stay connected with family and friends by telephone, writing them a letter or email, or by using social media.

• Keep physically active as much as you can. Take advantage of the limited walks when possible, get up and walk around your apartment, and do simple seated stretches.

• Unleash your inner artist with coloring pages or take up drawing or sketching.

• Organize something you’ve put off, such as that pile of papers, a drawer or shelf.

• Listen to your favorite music.

• If it’s possible, use your TV’s streaming service to catch up on some classic movies or one of those popular TV shows everyone’s talking about.

• Use your tablet or computer and research some topics you’ve always been interested in, learn some phrases in a foreign language, watch a YouTube tutorial or TED talk, or just laugh at some animal videos!

• Above all, maintain a positive attitude. You have likely coped with difficult situations before, and be reassured that you will cope with this current situation as well.

The fourth month of the year brings us April Fools’ Day, Earth Day, and the chance for some rain.

According to the early Roman calendar, April was the second month but became fourth when they started to use January as the first month. The name originally came from Aprilis, meaning ‘to open.’ In April, small animals that were hibernating usually come out and the birds fly back northward to settle, bees and butterflies begin to gather nectar. In some parts of the world, April is planting time but in other parts, it’s the harvest season. Because of the nice, warm weather of April, amateur athletes begin to go outside while the professional baseball begins. People usually do huge spring cleaning and mowing. The first day of April begins with April Fools’ Day.
