GROWING HEALTHY SOILS & COMMUNITIES WITH BIOCHAR AT SAMMAMISH VALLEY FARM ...supported by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. These two-day workshops will be oered three separate times, so feel free to join us at any of the three sessions! August 18th - 19th or November 17th - 18th or April 27th - 28th Each will engage participants in three main activities: 1. Harvesting biomass such as reed canary grass and black berry cane as fuel for the production of biochar. 2. Instruction on biochar science and technology as well as building and operating simple biochar stoves. 3. Hands-on activities to incorporate your final biochar product into the soil at our 6 acre farmstead. We are working to apply biochar practices utilizing invasive species that are already in abundance on our site. The ecient repurposing of these organic materials has the potential to enhance the soil for both rural farmlands and urban community gardens. This process is the means by which we fulfill our core purpose: to support community education around sustainable farmstead practices.
