STRATUS APPLICATIONS MOVING TO GOOGLE MAPSIn the coming week, the Stratus system and its various associated applications will be moving over to Google Maps. The transition from Bing Maps to Google Maps will occur successively, on an application-by-application basis.

Subsequently, certain features of Google Maps, such as Street View and 3D View will be made available over the next several weeks.

Members who are currently using Internet Explorer version 9 will need to upgrade their browser or consider using Chrome or Firefox instead.

Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) President Sandra O’Donohue report-ed 919 residential transactions in November 2016, a 15 per cent increase from the same time last year. “The balance between supply and demand for homes continues to be very tight as we inch closer to the end of 2016,” stated O’Donohue. There were 1,154 new listings in November 2016 compared to 958 in November 2015.

“It isn’t surprising that Durham Region con-tinues to lead in average selling price increas-es throughout the Greater Toronto Area,” added O’Donohue. The average selling price in Durham reached $574,694 last month.

In comparison, the average selling price was $455,603 during the same period last year; a 26 per cent increase. Homes have continued to sell quickly in an average of 13 days com-pared to 21 days last year.

“Durham Region is seeing development in residential, commercial, and land, as well as the development through transportation and technology projects, all in which is stimulat-ing new investment interest,” says O’Dono-hue. “Durham Region is an affordable and prospering place to live.”

CHRISTMAS DINNER & CHARITY AUCTIONOn December 1st, Durham Region Association of REAL-TORS® (DRAR) hosted their annual Christmas Dinner and Charity Auction in support of three local Durham Region charities: Resources for Exceptional Children and Youth, St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen operated by Durham Outlook, and WindReach Farm.

“We’re proud to say our REALTOR® members raised over $14,000 this year,” said Sandra O’Donohue, DRAR President. The evening’s 250 attendees also donated canned/dry goods to the Salvation Army, and pyja-mas for women and children at Durham Y’s WISH and Durham Children’s Aid Foundation. “For over 20 years, our members have been fundraising for local charities for our annual Christmas Dinner and Charity Auction. We’re incredibly proud of how our REALTOR® members give back to the community, not only during the holi-days, but throughout the calendar year as well.”

The event included special guests, 2016 CHMC Award of Distinction, installation of the 2017 Board of Direc-tors, 2016 President’s Report, passing of the gavel and 2017 President’s introductory speech. Throughout the evening, 248 silent auction items were bid on for the Charity Auction.

The recipient of the 2016 CHMC Award of Distinction was Dena Sicard, sales representative at Royal LePage Frank Real Estate, Whitby. For the last 26 years, the CMHC Award of Distinction has been recognizing active members of DRAR who has direct or indirect Associ-ation involvement, community involvement, commit-ment and service to the industry, promotes the indus-try and is a goodwill person. DRAR welcomed the 2017 Board of Directors, which includes Roger Bouma (President), Sandra O’Donohue (Immediate Past-President), Dennis Roberts (Direc-tor-at-Large), Vicki Sweeney (Durham East Director), Sue Duchesnay (Director Durham West), Lorrie Lynn Roberts (Durham Centre Director), Tina Sorichetti (Durham North Director), and Keeley Ward (Direc-tor-at-Large).

“I extend my deepest gratitude to the 2016 Board of Directors, DRAR staff, volunteers and partners for mak-ing this a memorable year,” said O’Donohue. “May good health and happiness be yours in 2017.”
