Dual Enrollment Overview§ Great Opportunity to be taken very seriously

§ Remember, the Valencia College academic calendar is different than the OCPS academic calendar.

What do you want out of Dual Enrollment?

● You must think about YOUR goal for dual enrollment (ex. As many credits paid for as possible, experience college courses prior to beginning, transition smoothly, interested in a certain course, or sequence)

● Scheduling – Do you want to be on WHS’s campus at all or full time? (full time is four classes or 13 credits classes per semester)

● Planning your class times (morning courses at WHS, etc.)● Driving time 45 minute between Valencia and WHS courses● Look ahead at University and major track of courses to help guide your course

selection.

with your Valencia ID number.

*We communicate with you through the DE Remind. You are responsible for receiving our messages and ensuring you follow through. You MUST provide us your student detail schedule in the time frame allotted whether you need books or not.

Registering for Classes★ When choosing classes:

§ Look at what you need to meet for Graduation Requirements: http://www.fldoe.org/academics/graduation-requirements/

§ Look at Valencia classes to see what will satisfy high school graduation requirements AS WELL AS earn your college credit. § You will want to take a look at colleges/universities that you would like to attend after high

school graduation to see if the classes you take at Valencia will transfer.§ Consult with your Guidance Counselor

§ Come to your Guidance Counselor with a plan on what you would like to take. This shows that you have done your research and are educated in the path you would like to pursue.

★ Valencia classes are scheduled by semester, where as Windermere classes are scheduled by year. (Example: English 3 at WHS VERSUS English Composition 1 at Valencia)

★ CLASSES MUST BE THE ENTIRE SEMESTER. NO MINI-MESTER OR FLEX CLASSES!!!

Classes to Take Note of…● US History credit at high school requires TWO Valencia courses: AMH2010 AND AMH2020.● US Government credit is ONLY satisfied by POS2041, not the local and state Gov. class at Valencia● ECO 1000 meets the requirement for high school required Economics credit.● You need four credits of English to graduate, most DE students take English Honors 1 & English

Honors 2 at Windermere and then, English Composition 1 and English Composition 2 at Valencia.● Science courses without a lab will count as a half credit on the high school side.● Most electives count as a half credit on the high school side. Intermediate Algebra is only a half

credit in high school, if you need a fourth math to graduate keep this in mind.

● Do not sign up for PE classes, classes that are less than 3 credits, or FLEX courses at Valencia.

Books & Book Vouchers for FallSteps to receiving your Valencia Books:

1. Print a copy of your student detailed schedule, and

bookcart and provide it to your counselor

2. Your student detail schedule can be found under

the registration tab which is on the right side after you

select the courses tab on your atlas account

3. Your bookcart can be found at Valencia bookstore

website.

4. Must come in on the dates allotted for vouchers.

Valencia Textbooks

What to bring when meeting with your counselor:

● Go to the Valencia bookstore online, go to textbooks, select your class(es), add the book(s) to your cart and print out your cart.

● Bring a copy of your textbook cart and your printed student detail schedule to your counselor.

Important Notes Regarding Books:● ALL BOOKS MUST BE PICKED UP FROM

WINDERMERE OR VALENCIA (if you were given a book voucher) WITHIN THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE SEMESTER. If there is any issue getting the book you MUST contact the DE office immediately.

● Use your voucher whether the class provides an online sample book or not. In many cases the sample disappears and then you will not have a book.

● These books DO NOT belong to you. They belong to OCPS. Your books must be returned to your counselor immediately following your final exams for that semester. DO NOT RETURN ANY BOOKS TO THE VALENCIA BOOKSTORE.

It is YOUR responsibility to stay on top of everything Valencia! So make sure you are regularly checking updates found in your Valencia ATLAS account AND Valencia Email.

The Contract

I am required to meet with my guidance counselor after registering for courses each semester to determine if the appropriate courses needed to meet OCPS high school graduation requirements have been selected.

___ I am required to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA (WHS) and a 2.0 Valencia GPA___ I will join the WHS DE REMIND and comply with requests and directions sent to me. To 81010, message @WHSDE12th or @WHSDE11th or @WHSDE910___ I must PRINT a copy of my student detail schedule and book cart for my guidance counselor in order to receive a textbook voucher (I understand that I do not pay

for tuition and books out-of-pocket)___ I understand that HOPE, World History, Algebra I, Geometry (which are required to graduate from high school) cannot be taken at Valencia, UF, or UCF. ___ I am required to return my books at the end of each semester to my counselor. Non-compliance will result in a book obligation on my account

and non-issuance of a book voucher for the following term.___ I will Inform my guidance counselor if I plan to withdraw from a course (I understand that a “W” can potentially affect my status in the Valencia DE program, future

financial aid and graduation status.)___ I am required to provide my own transportation and be off campus when not enrolled in a Windermere course.___ I am required to attend a New Student Orientation session prior to the first day of class.___ If I am under the age of 16 and attending Valencia, my parent/guardian must be present on campus any time I’m on campus.___ I will meet with an advisor from Valenica to determine the appropriate courses needed to meet AA or AS degree requirements. I will register graduation at Valencia

if I plan to receive my AA degree prior to HS graduation.___ If I am continuing at Valencia after HS graduation, I must change my status from Dual enrolled to Degree-Seeking student through my atlas account.
