JDoodle Visual Basic Online Compiler Introduction

This is how JDoodle first looks when you click on my website link:

Start JDoodle  (Visual Basic Online Compiler)

You can also start JDoodle by Ctrl-Clicking on this link!

You will notice that JDOODLE provides example starting code:

In the grey column to the left there are line numbers. I like having them and they will help all of us reference certain parts of our programs better.

The title above the code is:

VB.Net is the common name for Visual Basic. The .Net refers to geeky stuff you don’t need to know; for now it just means Microsoft made it.

To save files/projects, you need a login.

Click on the blue Sign In button at the upper-right.

A window comes out from the right:

Since this is your first time, click on Register:

A replacement window come out from the right:

I recommend you enter in your school email, but any email will do.

Check this if it shows.

And click on the checkbox next to “I’m not a robot” if it shows.

Finally, click on the blue Join JDoodle button at the lower-left.

Then you see this window. Read it, then click on the Close button.

Now go to your email account and click on their email:

Click on the response link.

And then you see the following. Click on the Close button.

This screen takes its place. Just close it and go back to the original browser tab or just click on my link again.

Click on the blue Sign In button at the upper-right again.

A window comes out from the right. Type in your information.

Then click on the blue Sign In button at the lower-left.

I highly suggest you email yourself the password right now. Then you don’t have to mess around with resetting your password when you forget. Use a title of “JDoodle info”.

Ok, now the upper-right shows I’m logged in.

Means I’m logged in.

Ok, we are back at the code they gave us.

Time to save it now that we’re logged in. Click on the three dots below the code. (Note: The geeky name for those 3 dots is ellipsis).

A window comes out from the right. Click on Save.

An extra section is expose. Type “VB Project 1” and click the blue Save button.

And it tells you if all went well. It just saved it online (in the cloud). In other words, the website keeps all your saved projects. Click the white Close button.

Send me an email with the title “VB Assignment 1”.

Unfortunately, Visual Basic files are considered a security risk, so attaching them (if possible) is useless because I can’t open them.

Copy the Visual Basic code in the editor and paste it into the body of the email.

If you want to save it to your computer for some reason, follow these steps.

Click on the three dots below the code. (Note: The geeky name for those 3 dots is ellipsis).

Now click on Save (to local file).

The file downloaded at the lower-left in Chrome for me, with this message. Click on the Keep button.

Then it looks like this at the lower-left in Chrome for me.

Right-Click on the download (“jdoodle.vb”) or on the little up-arrow like I did:

You can then click on Show in folder. It is saved in the Downloads folder. How it looks exactly depends on your computer and the file display settings. Here are a few examples. Your computer might not even know what a VB file is and will use a generic icon.
