Contestants compete March 12-26, 2016 in a bracket style format for $570,000 in prize money. Hoping to earn herself a spot in the Playoff Round March 24-25, was barrel racer and Rodeo Austin volunteer Janie Johnson of Amarillo, Texas. “I grew up around rodeos because I traveled with my dad, who was a 4-time world champion saddle bronc rider,” said Johnson. “When I was 13 years old I decided I wanted to give barrel racing a try – the rest is history.” While Johnson attended college at the University of Texas at Austin, she and a group of friends developed a the UT Rodeo Club for fellow students who either competed in or were passionate about the sport. “One of my professors at the time was a Rodeo Austin volunteer, and he suggested we get involved in the organization,” said Johnson. “I was hooked immediately, because Rodeo Austin quickly became a outlet for us to be away from the city life and around the sport we love.” After graduating in May, Johnson is able to spend more time perfecting her barrel racing craft, and work towards her ultimate goal of competing in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. “The thing I love about Rodeo Austin is that it’s so much fun and it feels like a big family here,” said Johnson. “I hope to keep coming back to ride at Rodeo Austin in the future.” Johnson ran a 16.34 time today, which was third in the performance, and hopes to eventually make it to the Final Round on March 26, 2016.

JOHNSON RACES AROUND THE BARRELS AT RODEO AUSTIN

Austin, Texas, March 13, 2016 – Rodeo Austin welcomed a new group of cowboys and cowgirls

for the second night of the Qualifying Round in the innovative Ride for the Brand Cowboy Tournament™.

Contestants compete March 12-26, 2016 in a bracket style format for $570,000 in prize money.
