Sandy Felkins preaching on United Methodist Women’s Sunday in Traditional Worship. As many of you already know, Sandy is no stranger to the St. Mark family as she has been a great part of this church’s ministry before answering her calling to pastoral ministry. St. Mark has been honored to have Sandy come back home after her retirement to worship and be in ministry. I know that you will join me in welcoming her as she brings God’s word to God’s people on this special ministry day. Below you will find a short biography of Sandy’s journey. Take a moment to embrace, celebrate and congratulate Sandy on her journey in serving Almighty God. Secondly, let’s thank and welcome Sandy again for bringing her gifts and graces into the fold of St. Mark UMC as we make disciples of Jesus Christ. “My family joined St. Mark in 1982 and I was blessed to be under the spiritual leadership of Rev. Charles Gattis and Rev. Lonna Lynn Higgs. It was during this time that God began to place a call on my life. In June of 1989 I accepted the call to full time ministry. In 1995 I was ordained as an Associate Member to the NAC and was blessed with 25 years of ministry. Churches served were: Panola UMC, Tuscaloosa FUMC, Propts Memorial/Andrews Chapel in Millport, Druid Hills UMC, Hargrove Memorial, Saks/Union in Anniston and Saks FUMC. I served on the staff of Pastor’s licensing school, Minister for Elementary Camp, created the East Tuscaloosa Soup Bowl, volunteered as a Chaplain at DCH and am a trained instructor for Disaster Relief first responders. I have served on many Emmaus Teams after attending my Walk #17 in 1985. I am blessed with a wonderful husband, Charles, three fabulous daughters and sons-in -aw, a step-daughter, son and daughter-in-law and nine terrific grands. It has been such a blessing to return to St. Mark” Remember…. We are building the Kingdom together, John V. STEPHEN MINISTRIES WORKSHOP On Saturday, May 2, St. Mark will host a Stephen Ministries Workshop in the Family Life Center, from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. Over 1,000 congregations have been invited to this event, with the anticipated attendance being around 250. Those from other churches will have to pay $15 per person to attend, or $50 for four or more from any one congregation. Since we are the host for this event, we may have as many non-paying attendees as we wish. In other words, this is your opportunity to learn more about Stephen Ministries for no cost whatsoever. There are no strings attached to your attendance. It is simply an informational meeting, learning more about what Stephen Ministries is and what it does or does not do. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex of the sanctuary, and if you plan to attend, we need you to sign-up right away. We will also need volunteers to be greeters on that day, so if you would like to be a greeter or help us with anything else, we need you to sign-up as well. This is a great opportunity for our church, so please take advantage of it. The Youth Group will be taking a Mission Trip to Charleston, SC June 28th through July 3rd. While there, they will participate in beach ministry, construction work and child/elderly care. Any donations toward this mission trip would be greatly appreciated! Graduates News It’s that time again for St. Mark to celebrate our upcoming graduates. Do you have a graduate in your family or know of a graduate in the family of St. Mark UMC? If so, we need to hear from you as soon as possible as we make plans for Graduation Sunday, May 17, 2015. Please contact the church office as soon as possible to give us your student’s name and High School of graduation. We would also like to have a listing of our college graduates as well. The church office number is (205)339-5990. Choir Appreciation Covered Dish Luncheon Please join us to celebrate our choir and show our appreciation for them! Please join us for a covered dish luncheon immediately following the 11 am “Experiencing God Musical” on Sunday, May 3 rd . Please sign up in your Sunday School class and bring enough food to feed 10 people. If you do not have a Sunday School class, bring your choice of meat, side, salad or dessert. Please be sure to bring a serving utensil. Thank you choir for sharing your talent with us! The Food Pantry has formed a steering committee to help oversee the running of the pantry. It is headed by Vicki Killen and tries to make sure the numerous sections run smoothly and have the right number of volunteers, anticipate any problems, deal with any concerns and suggestions and help keep the congregation informed about the workings of the pantry. In order to keep you informed we will be publishing the following information each quarter. *Number of clients served: January 2015 307 February 2015 374 March 2015 415 Total 1096 *Amount spent to keep the pantry stocked for the first quarter $7,822.00 A reminder to our congregation that the pantry is run strictly by donations of money and food items. We thank each one of you for your help either as a volunteer or by donating. As you can see we are reaching out to and helping many. Nancie Blewitt Facility Usage A reminder from the Trustees…it is imperative that any ministry groups, ministry committees and individuals that wish to use the church for a meeting or ministry activity at St. Mark must coordinate such through Samantha Mahloch’s office. Samantha can be reached at (205)339-5990. While it appears many times that rooms are vacant or not being used, it is important that ANY USE of church facilities be coordinated through Samantha. IT IS NOT OKAY TO JUST PICK A ROOM AND HAVE MEETINGS outside of the church calendar and scheduling protocol. Please help us keep our commitments to all groups, committees, individuals and those using our facilities by cooperating with the protocol to schedule your meeting through the church office. Thank you! “Experiencing God” The Musical Next Sunday our Chancel Choir will be presenting the musical “Experiencing God”. Our children’s choir will also be featured on one of the selections. Performance times are at the 11:00 a.m. morning worship and also at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Please be in prayer for our choirs as we continue to rehearse and lead our church as we experience God in this musical.

Family Life Center Elevator Have you heard yet that the Family Life Center now has an elevator lift? That’s

correct! Many of our members and friends of St. Mark who have in the past

not been able to access the second floor in the Family Life Center can now do so. That means for any who have

trouble walking stairs, or who are confined to wheel chairs or have to rely on wheel chairs for mobility can indeed

reach the second floor level. If you need to use the elevator, please

contact Samantha for a code.

The 50th Anniversary is just around the corner folks,

May 31, 2015, and we could use help with a few things

to make this day even more special.

PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES…we need to borrow

any pictures you may have from year 1 to year 50. We

need some older pictures of when the church was being

constructed as well as construction pictures of its

development over the building additions.

WEDDING PICTURES…were you married at St. Mark

UMC? Could you share for a day wedding pictures of

your special day? As many as possible please.

BAPTISMS/CONFIRMATIONS…do you have a family

photo of special spiritual moments? Could you share for

a day these special memories of spiritual growth? Again,

as many as possible.

MEMORABILIA…do you have any milestone memorabilia?

For instance, does anyone have a shovel from

groundbreaking on construction? How about pictures

showing land clearing, etc.?

Please contact Jill Hannah or John Verciglio as your

earliest convenience if you can help with any of these

items. Thank You!
