JOHN’S EPISTLE

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

In this issue of the Crossroads you’ll find a report from the Long Range Planning

Committee about the results of the survey they conducted. It isn’t all the infor-

mation they received, but a summary of what the surveys revealed. I ask that you

look it over carefully. Based on the results of the survey, the committee will de-

termine and present the three highest priorities for this year.

One of the things the survey says to me is what the people of this congregation

(both members and friends alike) want. That’s important. People tend to support

what they want to be done. But I would give a word of caution. What people

want isn’t always what they need. More important than what people want is what

God wants. God wants what people (and congregations) need. And as we all

know, the two are always the same. Take Jesus for example. What people wanted

is a Messiah who would be a military and political leader who would throw off

the yoke of Roman oppression. What God sent was his Son, a Messiah who de-

feats the forces of sin and evil in our lives and in the world.

With that in mind, it is my hope and prayer that as we look to the future, we may

try to discern above all what is God’s will for our lives and for this congregation.

Yours in Christ

Pastor John
