PRAYER INTENTIONS

FROM OUR PASTOR

Page 4 - 171

O God, who by the mystery of today’s great feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, fill now once more the hearts of believers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

These words are the Collect, or Opening Prayer, for Mass this Pentecost Sunday. Please read them again before continuing. On this day trust that the Holy Spirit will “fill now once more the hearts of believers.” Take some time today in prayer to experience the Holy Spirit and the gifts that have been poured into you. As I write this it is expected that counties of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will move into the “yellow” phase of the statewide re-opening plan by Friday, June 5th. This means that the celebration of daily and Sunday Masses will resume beginning on Saturday, June 6th. There is tremendous joy we are all experiencing to have the celebration of public Mass after almost three months. We will be shar-ing guidelines from the Archdiocese that are based on the safety of everyone as we return to our beau-tiful church. There will be adjustments for everyone that are necessary based on what we have learned about the coronavirus and the appropriate response as we gather for Mass. Thanks for your under-standing and patience as we take these steps to come together for the Mass—the center of our life and worship. Mr. Shane Flanagan, a seminarian from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, has been assigned to our par-ish for his Summer Pastoral Internship. Shane recently completed First Theology and will be with us from June 6th to August 2nd. We look forward to welcoming him next week! Our Parish and School were recently presented with a gift of $1,500 from our CYO families. They chose to make a generous donation rather than receive a partial refund for their canceled season. We greatly appreciate your sense of stewardship as we are all facing challenges during this pandemic. In Christ’s love, Fr. Costa

RETURN TO MASS

Page 5 - 171

Praise be to God! The day we have prayed for has finally arrived. Public Masses will resume begin-

ning Saturday June 6th. We invite you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus in this time.

Things will look quite different at St. Agnes in the coming days and weeks as we come together again

as a community. Please know that the decisions regarding how Mass will be celebrated and how the

parish will operate in these days have been made with great prayer and consideration for how we can

safely and effectively serve our community both spiritually and physically.

We are still working on the specifics of how Mass will be taking place at St. Agnes. As soon as this

information is finalized, likely at the beginning of this week, it will be posted on our website, on our

Facebook page, and sent via our parish e-mail list. You may want to bookmark the page of our

website where we will be posting this information, saintagnesparish.org/welcome-home.

Below you will find a general outline of the guidelines that have been given to us by the Archdiocese

of Philadelphia. We will be following all of these guidelines, including sanitation between Masses, so-

cial distancing, and the limitation on the number of people in the church at any one time. Of course,

because of the unique situation in our parish with our building, there will be a number of adaptations

that we will be making, considering your health and safety and the reverence of the Mass as our prior-

ities. Please keep an eye out for these specifics in the coming days.

GUIDELINES FOR RETURNING TO MASS General Points

• The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation continues to be lifted dur-ing the Yellow Phase. You are not required to attend Mass at this time.

• Please stay home if you are sick.

• Please stay home if you are at higher risk of severe illness with COVID19.

Before coming to Mass

• Please wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and water.

• Before entering the Church, please put on a face mask or cloth covering. Exceptions to this are “children younger than 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing or is unconscious, and an-yone who is incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the cloth face covering without assis-tance” (CDC Guidelines).

• Please do not come to Mass if you are sick or are at higher risk for severe illness with COVID19.

• Missalettes will not be in the pews during this period. You are welcome to bring your own mis-sal/readings with you.

Entering Church and Finding a Seat

• Specific instructions will be forthcoming which respect social distancing of 6-feet between mem-bers of different households.

Page 6: John Patrick Publishing · 2020-05-31 · RETURN TO MASS Page 5 -171 Praise be to God! The day we have prayed for has finally arrived. Public Masses will resume begin-ning Saturday

RETURN TO MASS (CONTINUED)

Page 6 - 171

During Mass • There will be no signs of peace during the Yellow Phase

• The Precious Blood will not be distributed at Mass during this time

• There should be no holding hands during the Our Father

Reception of Holy Communion

• Please maintain social distancing in the Communion line. Please keep several pews between your-self and the person in front of you while in line and when returning to your pew. At St. Agnes, we are working on finalizing our system of how we will distribute Holy Communion in our church given our unique architectural situation.

• During the Yellow Phase, the faithful are asked to receive Holy Communion in the hand as an act of charity towards your fellow parishioners

• Please remove your mask before receiving Holy Communion. More detailed instructions on how to do this will be given to you.

Exiting the Church

• At the conclusion of Mass, please exit the Church and proceed directly to your car. Please do not congregate for any reason.

• We will not be passing out bulletins at this time, but will have them sitting out on a table availa-ble for you to pick-up. Please take one with you or go onto our website to read the most recent bulletin with information from our parish.

• Please leave your mask on until you have exited the church and are away from your fellow pa-rishioners.

Sanitation Measures

• The church will be sanitized in between each Mass. For this reason, there will likely be a change in the Mass schedule. Please make sure to check our website.

Live-Streamed Mass

• We recognize that at this time, it may not be safe for our parishioners to return to public Mass for a variety of reasons. You are still encouraged, however, to keep Sunday as a holy day. To as-sist you in this, we will continue to live-stream Mass from St. Agnes. Please check for updates on what our live-streaming schedule will be.

Page 7: John Patrick Publishing · 2020-05-31 · RETURN TO MASS Page 5 -171 Praise be to God! The day we have prayed for has finally arrived. Public Masses will resume begin-ning Saturday

During the Coronavirus Outbreak and to minimize social distancing to keep everyone safe, the KofC Council Home will temporarily remain CLOSED to its members and to the public. Thank you for your un-derstanding. Stay tuned for any changes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ZOOM PRESENTATION June 16 at 7:00pm In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the faithful have been turning to St. Padre Pio—one of the world’s most prayed to saints—for healing. But did you know that Padre Pio’s ministry was direct-ly connected to our last great worldwide pandemic, the Spanish Flu? In honor of the anniversary of Padre Pio’s canonization on June 16, join West Chester University professor and anthropologist, Dr. Michael A. Di Giovine, for a discussion on the connection between St. Pio’s stigmata, the pres-sures of his early popularity, and the Spanish flu. He will also talk about St. Pio’s devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, to whom he turned when struck with illness. Dr.Di Giovine, a parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Parish who has conducted decades of research on the saint, will also pray with us for St. Pio’s blessing through one of his relics. To ac-cess the meeting go to zoom.us. After you do that, click “Join a Meeting”. The meeting ID and password are below.

FROM OUTREACH SERVICES We have happily begun distributing the new Easter Outfits to the children in our Day Room programs which we were not able to provide during Eastertide because of the pandemic. We are delighted that the children will have them in time for the first public Masses as we had hoped and prayed! We are grateful to “Partners In Outreach” who organize the Easter clothing program each year and have been willing to deliver the clothes in small batches this week as we call families, one at a time, for pick-up. How de-lightful for these children! New clothes as we turn to new Life in the Eucharist!

APOSTOLADO HISPANO
