JOHN BIGGS

John "Briggs", a Soldier from Pennsylvania, is shown in the Greene County, TN Pension Roll of 1835 when he

was age 82, and drawing $80 annually, being placed on the Pension Rolls on February 22, 1833. The surname

has been mis-transcribed and the surname was actually Biggs. John Biggs purchased 23 acres of land in Greene

County on October 30, 1815. The land was in the western area of Greene County, being on "the public road

from Greeneville to Warrensburg".

John Biggs died on December 1, 1833. His son, James, filed a Declaration for arrearage and half pay on behalf

of his widowed Mother, Isabella who died July 17, 1838. The application was rejected. James Biggs continued

to live in Greene County.

The Family Bible with the listing of John and Isabella's children with years of birth was enclosed with the

Application. Although barely legible, the documents are shown on the following page. [Note the Bible

was printed in Belfast.]

Isabella Wilson Biggs Born November 24, 1763 Died July 17, 1838

They are buried in Blount County, Tennessee.

It is presumed James Biggs (1800-1866) is the same man who supported the Confederate cause during the Civil

War, and was later granted a Pardon by President Andrew Johnson on March 19, 1866. He was murdered on

his farm one day later. James Biggs is buried in Timber Ridge Cemetery.
