My legs are tired, but I’m OK and having a good time. There’s a university here and loads of English language schools so the city is full of young people. There are thousands of tourists too. It looks like everybody is in Brighton this summer! I’m staying with Pete’s sister, Tania. Do you remember her? She’s studying architecture here at Uni and she lives in a house with two Italian students and a girl from Japan. Tonight we’re all going out to a Spanish tapas bar and then we’re going clubbing. Let me tell you about the city. Well, Brighton is famous for two things in particular. First, Brighton Pier where you can try British fish and chips. There’s a funfair, lots of pubs and some amusement arcades too. Some people love jumping off the pier into the sea! I’d like to go for a swim, but the sea is too cold. The other really famous sight in Brighton is the Royal Pavilion. It was the seaside home of King George IV (he was King of England from 1820–1830). It’s a strange but beautiful building and it doesn’t look English at all. Outside it looks like an Indian palace and inside it’s decorated in a strange mix of Chinese, English and Indian styles. Mum, you’d love it. You could find some really good ideas for decorating the dining room! Then there are lots of shops, discos and bars, and places to meet. The best part of the city for shopping is an area called North Laines. It’s full of trendy, unusual shops. You can buy anything from original 1970’s clothes to handmade jewellery, from African drums to antique violins. There are second-hand record shops, shoe shops, arts and crafts shops, cool cafés and all sorts of restaurants. It’s my favourite part of the city. Well, I’m going to have a look at the shops now. There are lots of things I’d like to buy, but unfortunately there’s no space on the bike to bring them back with me! ‘Speak’ to you soon. 5 10 15 25 30 35 40 Leave a comment More photos Blog home Archive Latest Entry Joe’s from Canada and this year he’s cycling round Britain during his summer holiday. Hi guys … it’s day 23 and here I am in Brighton, a really trendy city on the south coast of England.
