Film Plot• A villain commits a murder and the victim (JC) gets the blame for it and

gets put to death in an electric chair. JC returns as a ghost and tries to get revenge on the real murderer. JC meets an old woman (MP) who can talk to ghosts. She tells him a riddle that he has to work out in order to find the culprit. While trying to solve the riddle JC sees a lady being attacked by the murderer. He tries to help her but she runs away and he realises that the criminal can also talk to ghosts. Jim solves the riddle that the old lady was the true criminal. Jim goes back to the old woman and the old woman tells him that she is the real murderer but it was her son who committed the crime. As she says this her son runs in and kills his mother as it was her fault that the police were after him after he kills his mother he then gets arrested for committing two crimes, once everything dies down JC realises that he no longer has any unfinished business and a white light appears before him and takes him up to heaven.

Todorov’s theory

• Todorov theory consists of an equilibrium, disequilibrium, understanding of disequilibrium, fixing the disequilibrium, equilibrium.

• In this story Todorov’s theory would fit in as at the beginning everything is normal, then the disequilibrium is where JC gets murdered, the equilibrium is when JC finds his murderer, the disequilibrium is where his killer is not behind it and the last equilibrium is where the true villain dies and JC goes up to heaven.

Propp’s Theory

• Propp's theory is that in all films there are usually 8 identifiable characters, hero, false hero, villain, dispatcher, princess, helper, father and donor and 31 different turning points, although he does also state that not all characters and turning points are needed in a film. Here are some of our characters.

• Hero-Jim Carrey• False Hero-Michelle phiffer (old lady)• Dispatcher-Old lady• Villain-Old lady• Helper-Old lady
